ATTACHMENT 4 Major Revisions There are no major revisions between the latest edition CSA C22.2 No. 213-2017 and previous edition CSA C22.2 No. 213-2016. Minor corrections, updates of references, clarifications and extensions of the standard are covered under the latest edition, as for example: - Extension to include requirements for oil-immersed equipment - Extension to acknowledge for Gc and Dc protections and Class I, Zone 2 AEx and Zone 22 AEx protections respectively - Clarification that optional zone marking is for US only There are some significant differences between CSA C22.2 No. 213-2017 when compared with standards CSA C22.2 No. 213:M1987 and there are also some differences in interpretations of applicability of concepts and possible stringency of their applications, as for example: - Requirement for continuous operation temperature rating for gasket seals and poured seals for sealing devices. - Requirements for testing of make-break devices are clearly specified and are different from the test requirements applied for non-incendive components. - Pass-fail criteria for spark ignition test for non-incendive components is clarified, no ignition within the tested component must be confirmed - Non-incendive circuits evaluation requires that up to 110% voltage rating be consider for associated line connected supplying equipment - Extension to cover equipment designated for Class I and II, Division 2 and Class III, Divisions 1 and 2 hazardous (classified) location Following table is the summary of the processes that shall be expected when the a manufacturer request is made for updating existing certifications from the older editions of CSA C22.2 no 213 standard to the latest edition, as per subject to this notice, to be upgraded to the latest edition of CSA C22.2 no 2013:2017: Applicable requirement listed in the existing CSA report CSA C22.2 No. 213-2016 CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 213-M1987 Construction review Paperwork construction review expected to the latest edition Full construction review expected to the latest edition Tests In general, no additional testing is expected Testing may be necessary for existing certified products where make-break devices or components may have been previously evaluated using the tests for non-incendive components. Testing may be necessary for existing certified products incorporating nonincendive components where the pass-fail criteria used was different than one clarified in the latest edition of the standard Page 5 of 6

ATTACHMENT 5 Background and Rationale Standard CSA C22.2 No. 213-2017, Nonincendive electrical equipment for use in Class I and II, Division 2 and Class III, Divisions 1 and 2 hazardous (classified) locations is harmonized with ANSI/UL 121201-2017, Nonincendive electrical equipment for use in Class I and II, Division 2 and Class III, Divisions 1 and 2 hazardous (classified) locations The advantage of using a harmonized standard for Nonincendive electrical equipment for use in Class I and II, Division 2 and Class III, Divisions 1 and 2 hazardous (classified) locations streamlines the certification process, as one single set of requirements can be used for certification in multiple countries (i.e. Canada and US) CSA C22.2 No. 213-2017 is the latest edition of this CSA standard harmonized with the edition of ANSI/US counterpart standard, an explanatory recapitulation of current and past-harmonized editions is as following: Canadian publication US publication Comments CSA C22.2 No. 213-2016 ANSI/ISA 12.12.01:2015 ANSI/ISA 12.12.01:2015 publication indicates harmonization with CSA C22.2 No. 213-2015, but in fact CSA published the harmonized edition of the standard in 2016. CSA C22.2 No. 213-2016 publication indicates harmonization with ANSI/ISA 12.12.01:2016, but in fact ANSI/ISA has already published the said edition of the standard in 2015. CSA C22.2 No. 213-2017 ANSI/UL 121201:2017 Compared with previous edition US edition of the standard Includes change of the standard editorial ownership form ISA to UL Page 6 of 6
