The story so far The previous Minister (Bob Neil) and the present Minister Brandon Lewis say on record that private industry and Fire Authorities should work together for the good of all. We ve been developing Firemark Education with colleagues from DCLG and the government for two years to date. This new style of interactive educational delivery, has captured the imagination of Private Sector Organisations, and Fire Services alike.
What is Firemark Education? A strategic hub, bringing together, Innovation and financial support from the private sector to deliver a national single Basic Fire Safety message to the Private/Social Rented sector and beyond.
Why we need Firemark Education? There are currently 46 Fire & Rescue Services in England & Wales. All carrying out similar fire safety awareness messages, all guarding the good work there doing, which unintentionally has confused Landlords and industry alike. The private sector were asking for. A one size fits all basic fire safety message, that could be rolled out nationally. A real example of this is a large Registered Social Landlord spanning six different counties. Statement by the CEO of a large Housing Association. I m being offered six different interpretations of fire safety, by six different Fire & Rescue Services. ( his words ) The industry is confused, go away, come back when you can offer me one basic fire safety message that I can use, one that my managers can deliver, and one my tenants can understand easily.
How does firemark education work? This tool is designed to give individuals an opportunity to undertake a simple risk assessment of a virtual dwelling, identify any potential risks, and mark them on a provided floor plan. The training model has three modes: Spot the risk Reveal the risks Overview
Why Government, Fire Services and Industry need a stand alone organisation Firemark Education needs to be a stand alone organisation. It is being seen and embraced by the private sector as the first vehicle of its kind, giving industry the opportunity to have a genuine corporate involvement to deliver a national fire safety message on behalf of their organisations. A good example of this is Bourne Leisure. The National Health Service are interested to see how they could deliver FME, as are the Fire Industry Association, The Fire safety Federation, The Association for Specialist Fire Protection, The Chartered Institute of Housing, The National Woodworking Federation, plus a variety of small, medium, and larger sized organisations, and importantly, the Fire Service itself.
