Notification Appliances L-Series, Emergency Communication Devices Description The L-Series Emergency Communications devices and accessories combine application versatility with all of the same time-saving and cost-effective benefits of the L-Series product line. The L-Series devices are the broadest and most versatile product line of notification devices available and include a wide range of devices to meet the emergency communications application requirements. The model s visual signaling text labeled, ALERT, is printed on the white housing s amber lens strobes and speaker strobes. This visual signaling label is used to identify the emergency communications in compliance with ANSI/ UL 1638 Standard for General Signaling Visible Appliances. Other Plain or ALERT-printed models provide clear lenses for use with the following color lens strobe attachments: amber green blue red These models can easily connect to a strobe and speaker strobe devices without a candela derating.in addition, the L-Series Emergency Communications devices include plain (non-printed) strobes, horn strobes, and speaker strobes. These devices, along with the ALERT-printed devices and L-Series accessories, can meet a wide range of requirements for indoor applications, including the following. emergency communications general signaling emergency response severe weather Emergency Communication Device All L-Series Emergency Communications and general signaling devices are compatible with the entire L-Series product line and they include the same time-saving and cost-effective innovations. For example, the devices provide the following added benefits. The plug-in design simplifies the installation and reduces costly ground faults. The universal mounting plates with on-board shorting springs test wiring continuity to reduce the installation time-frame and protect the devices from damage. The field-selectable settings provide versatility and enable Installers to quickly set each device to comply with the application requirements. FEATURES & BENEFITS Emergency Communications Features: Designed with Plain or ALERT-printed white housings. Includes either Clear or Amber lens strobes and speaker strobes Contains color lens attachments for use with clear lens wall or ceiling strobes. Complies with DoD specification requirements. L-Series Features: Offers a plug-in design for simplified installation and troubleshooting. Built with a mounting plate shorting spring to easily test the wiring continuity. Provides an automatic selection of 12- or 24- volt operation at 15 and 30 candela. Supports the following field-selectable candela settings Wall:15, 30, 75, 95,, 110, 135, 185 Ceiling: 15, 30, 75, 95, 115, 150, 177 Rated from 32 F to 120 F (indoor devices); -40 F to 151 F (NEMA 4X, IP56 weatherproof devices) Includes an optional tamper-resistant Torx head screw. Compatible with the synchronization protocol.

L-Series Specifications Architect/Engineer Specifications, General The L-Series strobes and horn strobes shall mount to any of the following: standard 4 x 4 x 1 1/2 inch backbox 4-inch octagon backbox double-gang backbox The L-Series compact mounts to a single-gang 2 x 4 x 1 7/8-inch backbox. The L-Series speaker strobes shall mount to a 4 x 4 x 2 1/8-inch backbox. A universal mounting plate shall be used for mounting ceiling and wall products. The notification appliance circuit wiring and amplifier wiring shall terminate at the universal mounting plate. Strobe (Continued) The L-Series products, when used with the Sync Circuit Module accessory, shall be powered from a non-coded notification appliance circuit output and shall operate on a nominal 12 or 24 volts. When the L-Series products are used with the Sync Circuit Module, the outputs will operate as follows: 12-volt-rated notification appliance circuit outputs shall operate with between 8.5 and 17.5 volts. 24-volt-rated notification appliance circuit outputs shall operate between 16.5 and 33 volts. The indoor L-Series products shall operate between 32 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit from a regulated DC or full-wave rectified unfiltered power supply. Strobes, horn strobes, and speaker strobes shall have the following field-selectable candela settings: 15 30 75 95 110 115 135 159 177 185 The clear strobe shall be an L-Series Model listed to UL Standard 1971 and shall be approved for fire protective service. Colored lens strobes shall be listed to ANSI/UL Standard 1638 and shall be approved for Private Mode Emergency. The strobe shall be wired as a primary-signaling notification appliance and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for visible signaling appliances, flashing at 1 Hz over the strobe s entire operating voltage range. The strobe light shall consist of a xenon flash tube and associated lens/reflector system. with Disabilities Act requirements for visible signaling appliances, flashing at 1 Hz over the strobe s entire operating voltage range. The strobe light shall consist of a xenon flash tube and associated lens/reflector system. The horn shall have three audible options and an option to switch between a temporal three-pattern and a non-temporal (continuous) pattern. These options shall be set by a multiple position switch. The horn and horn strobe models shall operate on a coded or non-coded power supply. Speaker Strobe Combination The speaker strobe shall be an L-Series Model listed to UL Standard 1480 and UL Standard 1971 and be approved for fire protective signaling systems. Speaker shall be capable of operating at 25.0 or 70.7 nominal V RMS selected via rotary switch, and shall have a frequency range of 400 to 4,000 Hz. Speaker shall have power taps that are selected by rotary switch. The strobe shall comply with the NFPA 72 requirements for visible signaling appliances, flashing at 1 Hz over the strobe s entire operating voltage range. The strobe light shall consist of a xenon fl ash tube and associated lens/reflector system. Synchronization Module The module shall be a Sync Circuit model MDL3 listed to UL Standard 464 and shall be approved for fire protective service. The module shall synchronize L- Series strobes at 1 Hz and horns at temporal three. While operating the strobes, the module shall silence the horns on horn strobe models over a single pair of wires. The module shall mount to a 4 11/16 x 4 11/16 x 2 1/8 back box. The module shall also control two Style Y (Class B) circuits or one Style Z (Class A) circuit. The module shall synchronize multiple zones. Daisychaining two or more synchronization modules together will synchronize all the zones they control. The module do not operate on a coded power supply. Color Lens Strobe Attachment The L-Series color lens attachments shall be approved for fire protective service as listed in UL Standard 1638. The lens attachments shall only be used with (plain, non-fire-printed) strobe devices. They shall mount to any wall or ceiling strobe and shall be rated from minus 35 degrees to 151 degrees Fahrenheit. Horn Strobe Combination The horn strobe shall be an L-Series Model listed to UL Standard 1971 and UL Standard 464 and shall be approved for fire protective service. The horn strobe shall be wired as a primary-signaling notification appliance and comply with the Americans 2
