Petite spaces can be a pain to work with and many interior designers usually resort to the oldest visual tricks in the bag like mirrors to counter the lack of space. For designer Adrian Heng from SpaceOne ID, he applied more than just the usual space-stretching tricks for this HDB unit at the The Pinnacle@Duxton. This being his second project in the exclusive HDB estate, he definitely had an edge as he knew the place inside and out. With experience and years of expertise on his side, he has carved a contemporary home brimming with classy, timeless elements which also add an expanse of space. MASTER BEDROOM (opposite) The padded overhead headboard provides a sumptuous treat in both aesthetics and comfort. HALLWAY (above right) The black and white bench is a highly versatile seating option which is shared between the open plan living and dining area. DINING AREA (below) Grey laminate panels sweep across from the front entrance to the dining area and this sweeping statement renders a streamlined appeal. KEYIDEAS Besides using regular mirrors, beveled mirrors are also another 1 option to consider as its unique edges will add plenty of focal interest. Do go for quality in custommade furniture as the fine 2detailing can make a world of a difference. You can even add tiny embellishments like crystals for a dash of glamour. Be adventurous when it comes to infusing colour into your 3 bedrooms. Go for bright colours like royal purple or chirpy yellow for your walls and do accentuate the look with soft furnishings of matching shades! Always keep to two main colours when you have a petite 4bedroom. Less is more and too many bright hues can overwhelm the eye and make the space look cluttered instead. 5 Forget about regular headboards and inject a spot of hotel grandeur into your bedroom with a padded overhead headboard. This dramatic-looking headboard is sure to induce a show stopping appeal! BATHROOM (right) Clad in gorgeous Chengai wood decking, the bathroom becomes a tranquil sanctuary for respite. YOUNGER SON S BEDROOM (below) The most striking elements in this cheerylooking room are the bold streak of recessed lighting and lightbox shelving feature. This once space-starved abode is home to a middle-aged couple and their two teenage sons. For this family of five with their two growing adolescents, Adrian knew instantly that he had to incorporate lots of storage compartments to suit their growing needs. Beginning from the front entrance, he clad both sides of the walls with grey laminate panels. One side is shrouded with builtin cabinets which act as hidden storage for the homeowners to stash away their shoes and can be accessed by the cleverly concealed grey panelled doors. The other side seamlessly conceals an unsightly bomb shelter. To keep the look consistent, the grey panelling is also utilised in the open-concept living and dining area as well as in the kitchen. For the dining area, Adrian affixed strips of beveled mirrors on the wall and framed it with hi-gloss black laminate panels. Complementing the grandeur of this mirror fixture is the custommade dining set. The jet black glass table top boasts of a plush fabric-clad base with an embedded crystal in the middle. It is flanked by matching posh dining chairs with an encrusted Swarovski crystal at its heart of its back cover. Such attention to detail certainly turns up the poise factor in this dining area. The living room also sports the same elegance as it is furnished with a gorgeous white sofa and a dreamy-looking settee. Exuding a classy Victorian charm, this decadent pair of seats is accompanied by a leather ottoman coffee table. Behind it is an open shelving display unit decked in a mirrored finish. This classy focal point no doubt, generates the illusion of a great expanse of space in the living area. Having covered the walls with such distinctive flair, MAR 67

Style File We love this versatile quilted bench and its urban yet European style! Custom-designed sheer curtains with intricate floral details add a distinctive style element. This padded fabric bedframe radiates sheer opulence. Adrian didn t forget about the ceiling and he implanted a bold stroke of recessed lighting which trails from both ends of the open plan living and dining area. When switched on, this modern touch anchors the classy yet contemporary theme firmly in place. Venturing into the more private areas of the home through the hallway, the eldest son s bedroom comes into sight at first. It is a picture of opulence with its royal purple wall and its matching purple, floral motifs are visible on soft furnishings such as the carpet and the curtains. Completing the look is the sideboard of the bed frame. It is padded with plush quilted cushions and Adrian made this feature functional too by framing the sideboard with wallmounted cabinets. In the younger son s bedroom, yellow is the order of the day. What is exceptionally unique about this cheery-looking room is the lightbox feature. Acting as open shelves, this illuminated fixture was specially added to cater to the son s interest in photography. With it, the aspiring teenage photographer can display his masterpiece proudly behind his bed. Coming to the last room which is the master bedroom, Adrian continues to wow as it is drenched in sophistication. It boasts of a plush padded headboard and an overhead ledge with a canopy-like quality. It is reminiscent of a cosy cocoon and adds to the boutique hotel-worthy appeal in the room. Two sleek metallic lamps at each side of the bed further play up the spectacular visual feast. As illustrated here, Adrian has certainly whipped up an extravagant abode which is most importantly, practical as well. After all, who needs a home which is only beautiful on the outside but doesn t do much for its occupants? Look closer and you will spot an encrusted Swarovski crystal at the heart of this chair!
