1 Noosa Men s Shed Newsletter December 2017 Web: noosa-mens-shed.org.au Facebook: NoosaMensShed Member of the Australian Men s Shed Association & Member of the Queensland Men s Shed Association 2017 in Review It is hard to realise that the Long Shed was completed only just over twelve months ago. The past year has been another busy one for everyone. Without photos to remind us, it would be easy to overlook what has happened at the Shed in 2017: The sail boat and trailer repaired and regular sailing began. New garden at the East end of the Long Shed established. Irrigation system for the orchard & Top Garden installed. Woodturning took off in the Woodwork Shed. The acrylic painting course in the Studio. An extension at the rear of the Metalwork Shed completed. A flying roof extension completed on the Woodwork Shed. Pavers collected & laid around the Long Shed, gardens etc. Bookcases for the Long Shed installed & filled. Two Cooking for One or Two courses completed. The wooden garden shed for the Top Garden appeared. Cyclone Debbie aftermath destruction of trees, the day before... The Shed Open Day. Cobbers Shed built & operating. Fishing expeditions began. Serious landscaping & car parks established. Spanner in the Works men s health day. New roof for the Hobby Shed. Electronics and Leatherwork shops formed. Long Shed formally opened. A lot of tree planting beyond the orchard. The Bush Shed (for the orchids) popped up. A wedding at the Shed a first for any shed. A new Shed trailer and shelter for it. Beekeeper Shed + two new hives including a native bee hive. Garden allotment system begun in the Lower Garden. A serious extension for the wood turning area & its building appeal. The new Band group formed. New TV for the Long Shed. Of course, none of this includes the normal hard work going on all around the Shed all the time to just keep us ticking along. (Our web site, fund raising sausage sizzles & bromeliad sales, support for major events Triathlon, Hill Climbs etc, grounds maintenance, morning tea or the social events such as the Melbourne Cup Lunch or the Christmas Party etc). Despite all of this, the most important but unmentioned are the friendships we establish and the support we can give to each other especially when the chips are down. We have also been greatly assisted by our sponsors to make it a great year and I am sure 2018 will be just as happy and busy. Shed Opening Hours Monday 12:30-3:30 Woodwork Tuesday All Activities Wednesday Woodwork Thursday All activities 1:30-3:30 Shed Band 08:00-10:00 Gardening Saturday Old sail cloth. The gardeners are looking for pieces of old sail cloth to lay down on the paths between the raised garden beds. See Mike Nixon.

2 Mon, 1 Jan Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Noosa Co-ord by Tom Gittings. Tues, 6 Feb Committee Meeting Co-ord by secretary Stewart Neuss Over the New Year period the Shed will most likely open as usual if there are shedders interested in being there. A shed leader must be there before machinery is used. Talk to a mate before going so that you are not there alone. Remember to be even more security conscious than usual as we don t want to lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. A few drive-by checks by members will help too.

4 Orchids Ray can use most old orchids given up as lost by many of us. Please leave them at the Bush Shed. Bees & Honey Recently Frank & Kevin recovered 60 kg of honey from the hives. Please return old Shed honey jars
