Commercial SMARTair for commercial buildings Upgrade security. Enhance sustainability. This is our showroom and must come with a modern access control system: SMARTair is right for us. Kevin Hoitink, Witzand Almelo SMARTair access control system has the flexibility to manage multiple groups of users with minimum hassle. Time schedules and permissions calendars are easy to create with the intuitive software. So, if your cleaners should enter only after office hours, SMARTair locks can facilitate it. If a team relocates, it s easy to change their access rights en masse. SMARTair also helps you meet sustainability goals. Its battery-powered locks consume minimal energy. In addition, ASSA ABLOY publishes product-specific EPDs for several SMARTair devices, to help you make informed choices about sustainable building management. An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a detailed mapping of a product s footprint, from raw material, manufacturing and logistics through impact during use to end-of-life recycling, based on ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards. An EPD can be used for public procurement and green building ratings.

SMARTair brings flexible access control to a Dutch superstore ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions

Tailoring access for public and private areas at the same site is easy with SMARTair This building is our showroom and must come with a modern access control system: SMARTair is the right system for us. Kevin Hoitink, Witzand Almelo Project Company: Witzand (www.witzand.nl) Location: Almelo, Netherlands Sector: Supplier building materials Devices installed: 27 SMARTair escutcheons, 4 SMARTair cylinders & 11 SMARTair wall readers. Barrio Ventas, 35 E-20305 Irun SPAIN Tel.: +34 943 669 100 Fax: +34 943 633 221 www.tesa.es/smartair Challenge Witzand has been a renowned supplier of wood and other building materials since the 1890s. Their head office and largest retail outlet dubbed XL is at Almelo, in the eastern Netherlands. Here the company designed their new building with openness in mind, to stock and display a vast range of their products, including a specialist woodwork department which supplies all kinds of wood materials. Witzand s new building also needed a brand new access system. Key Requirements an access control solution able to combine welcoming shoppers with keeping unauthorised visitors out of warehouse and office areas of the new building easy access system management, including the ability to change employee and visitor assigned access rights whenever needed cost-effective, flexible operation on a day-to-day basis attractive, unobtrusive components suitable for public-facing parts of the premises Solution With SMARTair wireless access control, Witzand facility managers can tailor the precise security levels they need for different areas of the building. It s easy to manage and amend access rights for every site user. A combination of battery-powered SMARTair devices wireless escutcheons, cylinders and wall readers ensure security at their new Almelo building meets the demands of a busy mixed-use environment. Employees carry programmable MIFARE smart cards which allow them to freely use offices and secure warehouse areas. Shoppers only have access to the retail areas of this new superstore during opening hours. The Almelo installation runs via an Update on Card system, which is adapted to premises with medium to high daily user traffic. Strategically located wall updaters provide a link between the software and SMARTair-protected doors. With Update on Card management, administrators can set time-limited access rights and order audit trails when needed. It is easy to cancel a card s access permissions if an employee leaves and there s no need to worry about unauthorised copies of physical keys. It s even easy for non-specialists to manage a SMARTair installation with the bundled, fullfeatured TS1000 admin software. We reserve the right to make technical modifications. Education SMARTair for schools and universities Go keyless. Keep control. You very quickly appreciate the convenience and cost saving that SMARTair provides. Geoff Bowring, Brisbane Boys College In university buildings or student halls of residence, mechanical locks don t offer the control managers need. There s no real-time monitoring, and you can t generate detailed audit trails for locks or users, meaning there s no easy way to track unauthorised access in cases of a theft, for example. The SMARTair wireless access system is built to solve these problems. Both product and software are robust, able to handle many users, high traffic, and fast resident turnover. Cards are fast and cheap to replace meaning no more changing locks when a student loses their mechanical key. The system can secure more than just doors, including cabinet locks and devices to protect car parks. Students can even use additional services like vending machines or the canteen on the same credential card as the room door lock. Plus, SMARTair is future-proofed and easy to upgrade, both adding new doors and upgrading the functionality of any devices already installed.

Brisbane Boys College goes wireless with SMARTair

A SMARTair system that expands as the school s needs grow You only have to lose a master key once resulting in replacing all your locks and you very quickly appreciate the convenience and cost saving that SMARTair as an access control solution provides. Geoff Bowring, Facilities Manager at Brisbane Boys College Update of access rights and receive audit trails via communication hub in real time = Communication hub * Optional remote access via mobile app Talleres de Escoriaza, S.A.U. Barrio Ventas, 35 E-20305 Irun SPAIN Tel.: +34 943 669 100 Fax: +34 943 633 221 www.tesa.es/smartair Project Company: Brisbane Boys College (www.bbc.qld.edu.au) Location: Brisbane, Australia Devices installed: 115 SMARTair escutcheons, wall reader, 3 mini updaters, 2 SMARTair knob cylinders ASSA ABLOY brand: TESA ASSA ABLOY partner: Foxfire Industries RFID technology: iclass Year of installation: 2015 Challenge Opened in 1902, Brisbane Boys College is one of Australia s most prestigious schools. The opening of a new building with 36 classrooms and 96 doors in total provided an opportunity to upgrade access control from an expensive and timeconsuming mechanical master key system that had been in place for over 100 years. What was needed was a 21st-century solution to securing the new annex. Key requirements A replacement for mechanical keys which provides a much higher level of security for staff and students A system with the ability to quickly generate audit trails for every door and system user, if needed A solution that frees facilities managers from the workload and expense of changing locks when school keys are lost An easy-to-install, scalable system that can grow with the needs of Brisbane Boys College An easy-to-use system that does not cause problems for non-technical staff members Solution SMARTair wireless access control met the school s needs. Doors were fitted with new electronic escutcheons and wall readers. Because the system is wireless, installation was quick and caused minimal disruption to building aesthetics and everyday school life. Now, staff simply present an RFID smartcard or secure credential and an internal or external door opens. For facilities staff, SMARTair provides several management options in one system, from out-the box SMARTair Stand Alone doors to SMARTair doors with Update on Card functionality and Wireless Online SMARTair doors, all designed to allow managers to quickly change access rights. It now just takes a few clicks to generate an audit trail for a specific door or user. Time-limited access for some users is easy to schedule. Geoff Bowring, Facilities Manager at Brisbane Boys College gives reason for decision for SMARTair : Ease of use, combined with the speed of the installation and, of course, the cost saving, eventually sold us on SMARTair. CUNEF facilities managers take control with the SMARTair system

At Madrid s CUNEF, SMARTair upgrades security, flexibility and user-friendliness We trusted the wireless SMARTair system because it s already used in other universities around the world, and the partner who installed the products was efficient and professional. Gregorio Pascual Carrascosa, Facility Manager, CUNEF Update access rights via user cards User The wall updater is the link between the software and the door Talleres de Escoriaza, S.A.U. Barrio Ventas, 35 E-20305 Irun SPAIN Tel.: +34 943 669 100 Fax: +34 943 633 221 www.tesa.es/smartair Project Company: Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (www.cunef.edu), more than 1600 students and 100 teachers Location: Madrid, Spain Devices installed: 250 SMARTair escutcheons, 6 updaters and wall readers ASSA ABLOY brand: TESA ASSA ABLOY partner: Ferreteria Ortiz RFID technology: MIFARE Year of installation: 2014 Challenge The Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros, or CUNEF, is a prestigious Madrid university with a specialism in business administration, law, banking and finance. Students come from all over the world to study on CUNEF s Masters programmes. As in many educational institutions, access control challenges at CUNEF centre around keeping the site secure while providing flexible and user-friendly access to an ever-changing roster of staff, students and visitors. Key requirements Avoiding a cumbersome, labour-intensive wired access control system Giving administrators fine-grained control over door access, right down to the level of individual rooms such as private areas and teaching offices Controlling student access to different areas of the university without needing to fit wired door locks An access control system that already has a track record in working with the complex needs of the education sector The ability to work with a trusted local partner who understands both the product and the specific requirements of CUNEF Solution SMARTair is built for organizations making the step up from mechanical master key systems. Security at CUNEF needs to be watertight no compromises so the SMARTair Pro tailored solution was the number one choice. CUNEF selected Update on Card management system, which allows cards to carry updated information to secured doors, adding flexibility for users and facilities managers. Local partner Ferreteria Ortiz also installed 6 SMARTair updaters at CUNEF, so all users can update access rights easily. If a someone loses their card, there s no security threat. A manager can issue a new one that will cancel the lost card. SMARTair solves the problem of controlling multiple door types, which would not be possible with less advanced systems. SMARTair escutcheons have been fitted to secure glass doors and emergency exits. Installation was quick and easy, no wiring needed. Because there s no wiring, CUNEF can extend access control to many more doors than would be feasible or affordable with a traditional wired system. With SMARTair, CUNEF facility managers can tailor access down to the level of each individual user or door. We reserve the right to make technical modifications. Flexibility: the main reason Madrid s Funway Academic Resort switched to SMARTair access control ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions

A single programmable SMARTair card opens bedrooms, common areas and student safes The system meets the expectations we had and offers very easy maintenance. Mario Arias, Facility Manager at Funway Cabinet locks and energy saving devices for students needs Project Company: Funway Academic Resort (www.funwayresort.com) Location: Madrid, Spain Devices installed: 166 SMARTair Update on Card escutcheons, 6 wall readers & 123 e-motion cabinet locks. Residents can access a swimming pool, gym, laundry facilities, restaurant, games room and even a rooftop bar. Funway takes its duty of care seriously. Managers sought a modern, flexible access control solution to protect the young people from all over the world who live at the site. Key Requirements a secure system robust enough to handle high traffic volume in residence common areas. wireless devices to fit all Funway s multiple door types, including rooms and lockers. the flexibility to cope with rapid and high turnover in site users students come and go all the time, and may need access for 1 day, 1 week or a few years. software that makes it easy to add, amend or cancel access rights at any time. a solution that forces students and other users to regularly update their access permissions. Solution Funway selected a SMARTair electronic access control system. Now, student rooms are locked with SMARTair escutcheons. Energy-saving wall devices inside rooms regulate electricity use, and students each have a safe with a SMARTair e-motion cabinet lock. Students and staff open all authorised doors with the same access card: Funway s gym, study rooms, games rooms, pool and changing rooms, spa and staff areas are also locked with SMARTair escutcheons. Because SMARTair escutcheons are powered by standard batteries, they do not rely on mains power and are costefficient and low-carbon to run. Wall readers to open the main entrance and car park also function as updaters. So, all users are forced to update their personal access rights every time they use a credential to enter the accommodation block. The bundled intuitive SMARTair TS1000 software makes day-to-day facilities admin straightforward. Adding or deleting a user s access rights is easy so security is not compromised if a student loses their smart card, for example, and adding new student arrivals or deleting former students from the system takes no time at all. It s also easy to view an audit trail for any SMARTair lock or user, guaranteeing facility managers stay in control 24/7. We reserve the right to make technical modifications. Keeping students safe and solving key management problems with SMARTair ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions

SMARTair added flexible, intelligent access control and upgraded security We are so pleased with the result we are already looking to adopt the access control system for the other student accommodation properties we manage nationwide. When management company Mezzino took ownership of the property, apartments were secured using a mechanical master key system. But with the high annual turnover of tenants together with a need for scheduled cleaning and summer shutdown periods physical keys were quickly becoming difficult to manage. Key Requirements a convenient access control solution that would make life easier for both the student tenants and the management company. user-friendly locks that did not compromise on security. a security system designed to work with the unique demands of students and student accommodation, among which are frequent lost keys and a rapid turnover of tenants. a solution that would allow Mezzino to continue working with long-standing locksmith partner, Newark & Sherwood. Solution Mezzino asked Newark & Sherwood Locksmiths to recommend high-quality access control that could both simplify the security arrangements for all residents and solve key management issues for Mezzino. They suggested SMARTair, a complete access control system that could be quickly fitted to every apartment to upgrade security instantly. I had no hesitation in suggesting SMARTair because of its adaptability to suit any accommodation. Its features make it a simple and intelligent way of upgrading the controllability and security level of any premises, while also solving key management issues without compromising on aesthetics or style, says Dale Bennett of Newark & Sherwood. In an initial deployment, 74 apartments were fitted with wireless SMARTair escutcheons. With SMARTair, credentials (cards, bracelets, fobs) can be easily added or removed at a central point using the intuitive TS1000 management software. Time zones can also be set, and an audit trail is available from the door device or user credential to make sure personnel access to any room is easily trackable. With convenience and security enhanced for staff, students and facility managers, SMARTair is tailormade for student accommodation like Rialto Court. There are SMARTair locks to secure just about any opening. Every one is wireless and easy to install. Escutcheons and cylinders fit interior and exterior doors. Wall readers control access to lifts, hightraffic entrance doors, and car parks. SMARTair access control stops unauthorised entry to a mountain campsite

While visitors enjoy the scenery, SMARTair takes care of security This is an ideal smart solution. Its simplicity, yet versatile functionality, makes it easy to manage. Savel Lubomir, Facility Manager at Tatra National Park Update access rights via user cards User The wall updater is the link between the software and the door The SMARTair bracelet is the most convenient credential for such an adventorous environment Talleres de Escoriaza, S.A.U. Barrio Ventas, 35 E-20305 Irun SPAIN Tel.: +34 943 669 100 Fax: +34 943 633 221 www.tesa.es/smartair Project Company: Tatra National Park (www.tanap.org) Location: Tatra Mountains, Slovakia Devices installed: SMARTair Offline escutcheons & 350 wristband and Updater ASSA ABLOY brand: Mul-T-Lock ASSA ABLOY partner: Rikeys RFID technology: MIFARE Year of installation: 2016 Challenge The Tatra National Park is a national symbol of Slovakia and in 1993 was designated a transboundary biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The park is famed for its mountainous scenery, and is visited by tourists, hikers and campers all year. On the Slovakian side of the border, park campground facilities were being used by day-trippers, when they were intended for registered campsite guests only. This increased the risk of theft and vandalism, as well as causing more wear and tear. Key requirements An access control solution to keep unauthorised users of the facilities out, yet also provide registered guests with secure access whenever needed Flexible management of access permissions, because campsite guests arrive and depart constantly Fast, easy cancellation of a credential s access rights, if one is lost or stolen Cost-effective retrofitting and day-to-day operation Solution Park management organisation TANAP turned to SMARTair to secure the designated campground facilities. They chose wireless access control, installing SMARTair battery-powered escutcheons; 350 wristband credentials were also supplied. Now, as guests check in, they receive a wristband which provides them with secure access to the facilities. SMARTair has enabled TANAP to restrict access to registered users only. Authorisations for the wristbands are easily managed as visitors come and go, using simple and intuitive SMARTair admin software. If a visitor loses their wristband, or one is stolen, it s easy to program a new one that will cancel the lost credential. The installation at the Tatra National Park campground runs via Update on Card, which is perfect for premises with medium to high user traffic. Now, campsite guests can access the facilities whenever they want, without needing to locate staff or wait around for someone to arrive with a key. The result has been the instant elimination of unauthorised use at the campsite. SMARTair will also help us reduce damage and wear-and-tear on the facilities, which can directly impact costs and the use of our resources, adds Savel Lubomir. Healthcare SMARTair for hospitals and care centres Protect patients. Audit access. We achieved all our objectives with the installation of the system. Miguel Angel Hernández Jerez, Hospital MAZ Healthcare settings present unique security challenges. A public-facing site must feel like open and welcoming. It must work for every patient, and provide a pleasant environment to greet family and visitors. Yet at the same time, managers must ensure security, including staff, sensitive data, and areas where medicines are kept. If there has been an unauthorized access attempt, security teams need to know as soon as possible. That s why advanced access control from SMARTair that s easy for everyone to operate can have major benefits. A system that can feed back to site managers in real time, for example, can directly impact quality of care, enabling staff to quickly locate patients, to respond to incidents or problems as soon as they arise, and to organize staff workflows more efficiently, resulting in less staff time wasted handling keys. That s why hospitals, health centres, residential care homes, surgeries and many other patient-centred facilities Europe-wide choose access control from SMARTair.

SMARTair brings real-time access control to a residential care home ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions

Easy, intuitive use for residents and staff is the key SMARTair advantage SMARTair has adapted to our present and future needs. In a residence like ours it is critical to have real-time management that allows us to interact with a door at any time. Ernesto Serra Facility Manager at Casa de la Misericordia, Pamplona, Spain Project Company: Casa de la Misericordia (www.casamisericordiapamplona.com) Location: Pamplona, Spain Devices installed: 120 SMARTair Wireless Online escutcheons & 4 wall readers with keypad ASSA ABLOY brand: TESA ASSA ABLOY partner: Jarauta Seguridad, S.L. RFID technology: MIFARE Year of installation: 2015 Challenge Access control in the residential care home sector Caring for vulnerable or elderly people presents a unique set of security challenges. Crucially when it comes to access control, residents may find it difficult to adapt to new or complex technology. Yet at the same time, an advanced system can hugely benefit this client group. Access control that can feed back to site managers in real time, for example, can impact care quality directly, enabling staff to respond to incidents as soon as they arise. And, of course, residents aren t the only ones that use a care home s access system. Staff, volunteers and visitors must also be kept safe. What s needed is a system that is both easy to operate and equipped with advanced access control features. Installation at the Casa de la Misericordia The Casa de la Misericordia is an assisted residential home spread between two buildings, a new build and an existing building dating to the 1930s. In total the two sites house 900 people: 310 employees, 45 volunteers and over 500 residents. Managers sought flexible, expandable access control which could be installed in 2 phases, starting with the new building. Key requirements: access control which enables efficient real-time control of the entire premises, allowing care and security staff to respond immediately to an incident a system which permits tailored access privileges, to adapt to the varied profiles of site users, which include staff, residents, volunteers, visitors and emergency workers wireless technology suited to retrofitting in an old building with large doors and walls up to 1m thick a flexible and scalable system, which allows staff to manage access to two separate buildings from the same control point a solution to the problem of mechanical key loss, and which also enables access rights to be amended instantly.

The state-of-the-art site has 54 accommodation units plus common areas and a spa. Administered by the Skanderborg Housing Cooperative, the apartment leasing system also includes a care package offered by the municipality. Managers sought modern access control suited to the needs of residents and staff. Also important to the cooperative was that Dagmargården should be free from the negative associations of key chains and mechanically locked doors. Key Requirements to create a key-free environment that would liberate nursing staff from the time spent unlocking doors manually, as well as foster a more caring atmosphere to ensure access rights are distributed securely and only to authorized people, making the centre safe and secure a solution to the problem of physical key loss, with a system that allowed access rights to be amended instantly Solution Working with a trusted local installer, the Skanderborg Housing Cooperative chose SMARTair wireless access control for their new centre. Wire-free installation saved the cooperative time and money. SMARTair locks are batterypowered, so maintenance costs are minimized. The site has both Offline and Wireless Online components, ensuring security managers are kept informed about security status in real time which can be essential when dealing with the client group living at Dagmargården. Everyone opens doors using standard credentials equipped with MIFARE RFID technology. Residents are issued with a tag which automatically opens their door, without the need to turn a handle or even push. Because SMARTair access rights can be individually tailored, residents, staff and visitors access only those doors for which they have authorization. Access permissions can be amended when needed and cancelled if anyone loses a credential, saving time and money wasted on changing mechanical locks. It has 120 beds and offers different medical specialties including specialized surgeries and diagnostic tests. The hospital sought a system to unify its multiple access control systems, including mechanical keys, and which could upgrade the security of staff and contractors working at the site. Key Requirements a replacement for mechanical keys, which were not providing the level of security that a 21stcentury hospital requires. user-friendly software to operate the installation from a central server. a system that removed the need for facilities staff to walk through the hospital changing rights manually at every door. wireless devices to fit almost any opening, including interior and exterior doors, as well as fire and safety doors. the ability to combine access control and employee identification on a single smart card. Solution MAZ chose SMARTair Wireless Online electronic access control, which gives security managers an overview of the hospital, with access rights constantly updated in real time. SMARTair wall readers and escutcheons filter access to internal and external openings, including fire and safety doors, car park and lifts. SMARTair devices fit wooden and glass doors, controlling offices, kitchens, the canteen, pharmacy, archive and storerooms. Staff and contractors carry a single MIFARE smart card programed with their specific access permissions. Cards are delivered blank and then personalized to double as employee ID. The secure, intuitive SMARTair TS1000 management software makes day-to-day admin simple. Adding or deleting a user is easy: a click cancels or amends a user s access rights. So, unlike with the previous mechanical key system, security is not compromised if a staff member loses their credential. And because SMARTair Wireless Online updates via communications hubs and in real time, security managers can implement changes in the central system without needing to update doors individually and on foot. Hospital MAZ is already planning to expand the SMARTair installation to another 50 doors in Zaragoza. Approximately 30 centres in the same group are also planning to switch to SMARTair. From historic building to a modern medical centre, with SMARTair access control

Installing SMARTair is fast, wire-free and cost-effective SMARTair complements the contemporary style of the modern build and is competitively priced. Talleres de Escoriaza, S.A.U. Barrio Ventas, 35 E-20305 Irun SPAIN Tel.: +34 943 669 100 Fax: +34 943 633 221 www.tesa.es/smartair Challenge The Lion Health Centre provides general medical services for 26,000 patients across the Stourbridge area, in England s West Midlands. Facilities include 30 consulting rooms, an enhanced nursing suite, minor operations theatre, physio gym and rehabilitation area, a small lecture theatre and an onsite pharmacy. The multi-million pound development required the conversion of a historic foundry run by English Heritage, plus the addition of a new wing with a more contemporary design. Key requirements A system suited to securing sensitive and private areas of a busy general health facility, and to monitoring and controlling footfall around the centre Attractive components to work unobtrusively in both the original historic building and its new, modern extension A system that could be fitted quickly, and without causing major upheaval to the centre s day-to-day operation Real-time access control over the whole medical facility Solution Architects selected the wireless SMARTair access control system. Now staff, contractors and authorized visitors open doors at Lion Health using RFID smartcards. Because SMARTair devices are wireless and battery-powered, there was no complicated, expensive and intrusive electrical cabling. SMARTair is ideal for retrofitting an existing building; installers simply replace the mechanical lock with a SMARTair device and link the SMARTair software to bring a regular door into the access control system. Installation causes no structural disruption to the building. For day-to-day system administration, the SMARTair Web Manager is a user-friendly tool that works inside any standard internet browser. There was no need to install complicated software, says Graham Sunderland, making for an efficient installation process, and allowing the project to progress quickly. The secure SMARTair Web Manager makes access management even easier. Adding, amending or deleting a user is easy: a simple click cancels the smartcard s access rights. As a result, security is not compromised if someone at Lion Health loses their credential and the surgery saves the time and money usually wasted on changing mechanical locks. SMARTair Swiss retirement home deploys SMARTair to enhance resident security ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions

SMARTair was the right choice. ASSA ABLOY Brand: Mul-T-Lock RFID technology: MIFARE Year of installation: 2012 Challenge Les Résidences Notre-Dame is a leading provider of retirement home accommodation in Geneva. Managers at one of their care homes sought a smart access control system that would instantly upgrade security at the premises. Easy operation for all site users was a must-have and not a simple goal, when user profiles and access authorizations differed so greatly. Key Requirements a responsive system that would allow staff to address all issues relating to resident care efficiently and in real-time simple installation that would not disrupt the daily routines of the care home s residents an access system that could adapt to multiple and varied user profiles, incorporating staff, residents and visiting families, among others access control that could be programmed to ensure every individual user could enter only the areas for which s/he was authorized straightforward operation, so everyone at the care home could learn to use the new system quickly and without any problems Solution SMARTair wireless electronic access control from ASSA ABLOY addressed all the needs of Notre- Dame management and residents. Its ability to support complex authorizations made SMARTair ideal. Now every user at Notre-Dame has access only to the appropriate areas. While trained medical staff can enter all rooms, as well as areas where medical supplies are kept, for example, a resident s credential will only open the door to their own room and the home s common areas. Access rights can be programmed remotely and immediately a function that s particularly helpful when access cards or other credentials are lost. Real-time capability of the system also enables care staff to address resident needs or solve incidents right away. Notre-Dame staff and residents also appreciated the ease with which SMARTair is installed. Disruption to the residents routines was minimal. No special wiring is required, and battery-powered escutcheons can be mounted directly onto the existing mechanical lock. And because SMARTair puts ease of operation at the heart of its design, even vulnerable and non-technical users at Notre- Dame can work the new access control system without any difficulty. Original plans specified that the entire building should be equipped with a mechanical locking system. However, with repeated loss of keys and the associated expense, the facility management company decided to install a more flexible, user-friendly system. Key requirements A system to deliver flexible access control suited to a landmark skyscraper in Germany s financial capital Electronic access control that needs no wiring, so minimising installation costs A system that would fit with the sustainability ethos of the new building A solution to the problem of mechanical key loss, and which also allowed access rights to be amended instantly Solution Building managers at Tower 185 chose SMARTair Update on Card management system. The new building combines modern materials and Andalusian design principles to create a flexible workspace bathed in natural light. The project s main security challenge was to offer the highest levels of protection for a broad range of users around 300 in an average day. Key requirements Swap mechanical keys for encrypted and configurable credentials Enable security managers to grant access remotely and manage multiple sites from a single control point Permit schedule-based access rights and allow security staff to track unauthorized access attempts Use high-quality components that work with building aesthetics Guarantee the highest levels of user security, while accommodating varied user profiles, including 3,000 volunteers, 100 employees and visitors Solution SMARTair wireless access control met the key goal: to accommodate the needs of all users, in one efficient, configurable system. Wooden, glass and emergency-exit doors are secured with SMARTair door devices, and two wall readers bring lift access into the same SMARTair system. The site has 100 permanent staff and a roster of around 3,000 volunteers. With SMARTair, doors are opened with programmable smart cards, eliminating risks associated with lost keys. When planning the space, founders committed to integrating the latest in security, accessibility and design, to give ULab the feel and facilities of a 21st-century business centre. They sought a flexible, wire-free access control system to maximise security, enable future expansion and complement the workspace s sleek, contemporary design. Key requirements An access control system able to monitor the whole building in real time A flexible system adaptable to both regular daily traffic and busy one-off events A single control point that could grant access remotely to all locks The ability to schedule access rights for different profiles, according to individual needs and responsibilities Components designed to convey an ultra-modern image for the co-working space Solution SMARTair Wireless Online was chosen to control access to the building and individual offices. ULab s SMARTair system now securely manages daily traffic of approximately 100 people, and has the flexibility to accommodate many more visitors when their event space is full. In addition to daily traffic, weekly traffic can almost multiply by 10 if an event is held, says Enrique Burgos. We needed an access control system as flexible and convenient as SMARTair. With SMARTair Wireless Online, ULab s facility manager can monitor building security status in real time, controlling who enters and when. The installation permits remote opening of every door from the SMARTair software, Web Manager or mobile app, enabling easy access when users have lost or forgotten their credential. Because SMARTair locks open with RFID smartcards, security is not compromised if an employee loses a credential. With the SMARTair Web Manager accessible from any browser on any device, a simple click cancels the credential s access rights much quicker and significantly less expensive than replacing a mechanical lock.
