Originator is the person who grew the plant to its first flowering (this may or may not be the hybridizer) 5. Nominant is the person who invented or coined the epithet to be applied to the cultivar. 6. Introducer is the person who first distributed the plant (privately or commercially). 11. Dated publications can include journals, newsletters, catalogs, or other printed publications that area distributed to the public or at the minimum to botanical or horticultural institutions with libraries accessible to botanists or horticulturists. Internet publication is not an accepted method. 12. Names awarded Patents or Plant Breeders Rights numbers will be recorded as trade designations and cited along with the accepted cultivar epithet.

14. Trade designation/selling name are names that have been used to market a plant and may be recorded but will not be given cultivar status 16. & 17. Registered or non-registered trademarks will not be accorded cultivar status nor will they be published in checklists without the permission of the trademark owner or his assignee. 21. The Standard for a cultivar is the designated herbarium specimen or equivalent to which a cultivar epithet is attached which shows the characters upon which the designation is based. The Standard portfolio may contain additional illustrations or other information (copy of the description as published, etc.). 23. & 24. If the cultivar was not artificially created by a hybridizer, was it found in a wild or native population of plants or in a cultivated environment such as a nursery or private garden? 27. If the cultivar was not artificially created by a hybridizer, was it a chance seedling, or a sport of a cultivar or species? 33. Standards should be accompanied by information defining the colors of important parts of a cultivar using an internationally recognized color chart (such as that published by the Royal Horticultural Society, UK). 35. If the flower color changes over the life of a single blossom, describe all the colors and their sequence of appearance. 45/46 Tubers of Nelumbo may be slender or thick as in the cultivars selected for food production. Some tropical cultivars may not form a starchy tuber and the plants undergo little or no dormant period. 47. Examples of additional notes might include overall vigor of plants, description of blooming season or life of flowers, etc. Below are examples of photos that should be included with your registration.
