D D D Read these instructions before use and keep them safe. If you pass the appliance on, pass on the instructions too. Remove all packaging, but keep it until you are satisfied. Thank you for purchasing an Elektra Health Thermometer. This thermometer has been designed for measuring the forehead temperature and eardrum temperature. Features: - Easy to read digital LCD (liquid crystal display). - Compact, accurate and durable LSI (large scale integration) device. - Temperature can be taken under the tongue (oral use) or under the arm (axillary use). - It is suggested that rectal temperatures be taken on infants only when axillary use is difficult. - Fast 10 second readout. - Auto shut off in approximately 9 minutes. - Small, lightweight unit. - Ideal for the whole family. - Low battery indicator: when the symbol appears, the battery needs to be replaced. - The unit is water resistant. BATTERY REPLACEMENT: 1. When the symbol appears, the battery needs to be replaced. 2. Remove the battery cover as shown in the diagram. 3. Use a toothpick or similar object to remove the battery. Avoid using any sharp metal objects. 4. Place a new battery in the chamber. 5. Replace the battery cover securely. Battery Cover

Note: 1. Remove batteries when not in use for a period of time. 2. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. 3. Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations, and in an environmentally responsible manner. KNOW YOUR ELEKTRA HEALTH THERMOMETER Thermo- Sensor LCD ON / OFF Button Battery Compartment Thermometer Tip OPERATING YOUR THERMOMETER 1. Disinfect the probe with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol before using. 2. Depress the on/off button. A short beep will sound, and the LCD display will read. 3. Release the power switch. The last reading will be shown for 2 seconds. 4. The thermometer will run a self-check test, the display will show self-test temperature of 37 C. 5. When the sign Lo and a flashing C display, the thermometer is ready for use. 6. Place the probe in the appropriate position (oral, auxiliary or rectal). 7. Once the degree sign C on the display has stopped flashing, the temperature is indicated. 8. The unit will automatically turn off in approximately 9 minutes. 9. To prolong battery life, please turn the thermometer off once you have finished using it. Operating Features Normal Temperature Alarm An alarm will sound when the temperature has registered and is ready-to-read again. The Normal Temperature alarm (ten quick beeps followed by a pause) will sound repeatedly for approximately10 seconds.

Last-Temperature Memory Recall Switch the thermometer on, a short beep will sound. The last reading will appear automatically on the LCD for 2 seconds. The reading is only over-written when a new temperature value is recorded. Fever Alarm If the temperature registers higher than 37.8 C, the fever alarm (a quick beeping sound which occurs continuously for about 10 seconds) will sound. NOTE: 1. Always disinfect the thermometer before use. 2. If the temperature is below than 32 C, it will be displayed with Lo C. If the temperature is higher than 42.9 C, it will be displayed with Hi C. 3. You may put a sanitary plastic probe shield on the sensor tip to help prevent cross-infection and contamination. 4. Use of the probe cover may result in a 0.1 C difference from actual temperature. 5. Dispose of used probe shields, do not reuse. TAKING BODY TEMPERATURES: Change in body temperature is one of the most important indicators of illness. It is important that accurate temperatures be taken. Even though the digital thermometer is used in a similar manner to the glass thermometer, it is important that the simple instructions for use of this thermometer be followed closely and that the person taking the temperature understands body temperatures. BODY TEMPERATURE: A person's body temperature may be lower in the morning than it is in the late afternoon. To determine what your normal body temperature is you should take your temperature both in the early morning and in the late afternoon over several days. Children have the same normal temperature range as do adults. A fever for both children and adults is typically defined as a temperature over 37.5 C (oral reading). Exercise excessive, clothing, hot bath, hot weather, warm food and drink can cause mild elevations in oral temperature. If you suspect one of these to be the cause of an elevated reading, eliminate the possible cause and retake the temperature half an hour later.

ORAL USE: Place the probe well under the patient's tongue. Instruct the patient to keep their mouth closed while the thermometer is reading. A normal temperature by this method is usually considered between 36.0 C to 37.5 C. Heat Pocket 37.1 C 37.1 C Heat Pocket 36.9 C 36.9 C 36.6 C 36.6 C 36.5 C Place probe tip RECTAL USE: If rectal temperature is recommended by your doctor, you may use a probe shield. Insert thermometer into the probe shield. Lubricate the probe cover with a water soluble jelly for easier insertion. Do not use petroleum jelly. Insert the tip of probe no more than 1/2 inch into rectum. STOP if you meet any resistance. The sensing unit is on the very tip of the probe and there is no need to insert the probe deep into the rectum. In general, the rectal temperature is around 0.5 to 1.0 C higher than oral temperature. AXILLARY USE: Wipe the armpit with a dry towel. Place the probe in the patient's armpit and keep the patient's arm pressed firmly against the body. In general, the axillary temperature is around 0.5 to 1.0 C lower than oral temperature. Note, in order to achieve a better auxiliary temperature reading, a minimum measuring time of 3~5minutes is recommended regardless of the beep sound. NOTE: Children should be attended by an adult during the entire temperature recording process. After use, the digital thermometer should be stored in a safe place, out of reach of children. If you compare temperatures between two thermometers, it is possible to have two different readings even if both thermometers are within their accuracy tolerances. Differences in how you take each reading and the thermometer's tolerance range can account for nearly 0.1 C changes.

Do not attempt to disassemble the unit except to replace the battery. 9. If the thermometer has been stored at below-freezing temperatures, allow the thermometer to warm naturally to room temperature before using. 10. Performance of the device may be affected if operated or stored outside the stated temperature and humidity ranges, or if the patient's temperature is below the ambient room temperature.
