Ally Express Reg. No. L6032 Act No. 36 of 1947 A water dispersible granule post-emergence herbicide, for the control of weeds in wheat and barley in the Western, Southern and Eastern Cape. ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Metsulfuron methyl (sulfonylurea)...100 g/kg Carfentrazone ethyl (triazolinone)...400 g/kg Registered by: DUPONT DE NEMOURS INT S.A. Co. Reg. No. 81/08502/10 P O BOX / POSBUS 3332 HALFWAY HOUSE 1685 Tel: (012) 683-5600 24 Hour Emergency Number: 083 123 3911 WARNINGS: Extremely dangerous to fish or aquatic life. Do not contaminate surface waters or ditches with chemical or used container. The product may irritate eyes, nose, throat and skin. Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. Store in a cool, dry place, in the original container, tightly closed. Store away from food and feeds. RE-ENTRY: Do not enter treated area until spray deposit has dried unless wearing protective clothing. Should the recommended dosage rate or time of application be exceeded, damage to the crop may occur. Where certain climatic conditions (such as lengthy wet, cold period) prevail soon after application, then the use of Ally Express can lead to a transient yellowing of the leaves of the plants and eventually to temporarily retarded growth. Although this remedy has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions the registration holder does not warrant that it will be efficacious under all conditions because the action and effect thereof may be affected by factors such as abnormal soil, climatic and storage conditions, quality of dilution water, compatibility with other substances not indicated on the label and the occurrence of resistance of the weeds against the remedy concerned as well as by the method, time and accuracy of application. The registration holder furthermore does not accept responsibility for damage to crops, vegetation, the environment or harm to man or animal or for lack of performance of the remedy concerned due to failure of the user to follow the label instructions or to the occurrence of conditions which could not have been foreseen in terms of the registration. Consult the supplier in the event of any uncertainty. Ally Express, page 2, 25/04/2005
PRECAUTIONS: Keep in original container, tightly closed, in a safe place. Do not smoke, drink or eat while using this product. Avoid contamination of food, feed, drinking water and eating utensils. For safety when mixing: Do not inhale dust. Wear eye protection (face shield). Wear rubber gloves. In the event of contact with eyes, wash with water immediately. In the event of contact with skin, wash with water immediately. In the event of contact with clothes, remove and wash. For safety when spraying: Avoid contact with the spray as much as possible and do not inhale spray. Avoid spray drift onto other crops, grazing, rivers, dams and areas not under treatment. Do not allow direct spray from ground based vehicle mounted/drawn sprayers to fall within six metres of surface waters or ditches. Do not allow direct spray from hand held sprayers to fall within two metres of surface waters or ditches. For safety after spraying: Wash yourself. Change and wash work clothes. Clean applicator thoroughly after use using the following method: i. Drain tank completely then flush tank, boom and hoses with clean water. Drain again. ii. Fill the tank with clean water and add household ammonia (contains 3 % active) at the rate of 1 l for every 100 l water. Circulate the ammonia solution through the tank, boom and hoses for at least 15 minutes. Drain completely. iii. To remove traces of ammonia, rinse the tank with clean water and flush through booms and hoses. iv. Repeat step (ii). v. Nozzles and filters must be removed and cleaned separately with ammonia solution at the same concentration as above. vi. Any contamination on the outside of the spraying equipment should be removed by washing with clean water. Do not spray, drain or flush equipment on or near desirable trees or plants or where their roots may extend. CONTAINER DISPOSAL: Containers and packages must be completely emptied before being disposed of. Shake out thoroughly into the application hopper. Thereafter rinse the empty container three times with a volume of water equal to minimum of 10 % of that of the container before destroying the container in the prescribed manner. Destroy empty container by perforation and flattening and never re-use for any other purpose. WEED CONTROL: Ally Express contains two active ingredients with different modes of action. Ally Express inhibits weed growth within hours of treatment, thus preventing competition with the crop. Many weeds show marked colour changes as they die back after treatment, but the time taken for these symptoms to appear and final death of the weed will vary according to species and weather conditions. Ally Express, page 3, 2005/04/25
RESISTANCE WARNING For resistance management Ally Express is a group code B/E herbicide. Any weed population may contain individuals naturally resistant to Ally Express and other group code B/E herbicides. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the weed population if these herbicides are used repeatedly. Ally Express or any other group code B/E herbicide may not control these resistant weeds. To delay herbicide resistance: Avoid exclusive repeated use of herbicides from the same herbicide group code. Alternate or tank mix with registered products from different herbicide group codes. Integrate other control methods (chemical, cultural, biological) into weed control programmes. For specific information on resistance management contact the registration holder of this product. USE RESTRICTIONS: 1. FOLLOW-UP CROPS: 1.1. Treated areas should not be planted with any crops other than small grain cereals (wheat, barley, and oats) within 10 months of Ally Express treatment. Wheat may be planted within one month while barley and oats may be planted 6 months after Ally Express application. 1.2. Ally Express applied to soils with ph levels exceeding 6.5 (KCI) and/or soils containing traces of lime may result in longer residual activity in respect of follow-up crops. 2. Ally Express has a limited residual effect on germinating weeds, the control of which is affected by factors such as weed species, soil ph and soil moisture. 3. Erratic control / re-growth of weeds may occur if one or more of the following conditions exist: 3.1. Light sandy acid soils that - tend to leach - tend to become waterlogged 3.2. Excessive stones covering the soil surface. 4. Under no circumstances should unused spray mixtures be kept overnight. 5. Do not spray Ally Express on to cereals which are growing under stress conditions (stress conditions can result from water logging, drought, disease, insect damage and mineral element deficiencies, especially Nitrogen), or other factors reducing crop growth. 6. Under sown Cereals: Ally Express must not be applied to cereals under sown with pastures (grasses, clover or other legumes or any other broadleaved crop). 7. Dilution Water: Use only water of which the quality is suitable for overhead irrigation. (Avoid water with a conductivity exceeding 1.0 ms/cm, or with a resistance of less than 300 ohm and/or ph higher than eight). 8. The compatibility of Ally Express has not been fully investigated. Do not mix Ally Express with wetters and oils. Mixing with Emulsifiable Concentrate insecticides, fungicides and other herbicides must not be attempted without prior consultation with the supplier. DIRECTIONS FOR USE: USE ONLY AS DIRECTED A dosage rate variation of up to 7,5 % can occur if the measuring cup is used to measure the required dosage rate. For total accuracy the dosage rates must be weighed out. Apply Ally Express between the 3-5 leaf stage of the crop. Apply Ally Express after emergence of both the crop and the weeds. Prepare only sufficient spray mixture for immediate use, in the following manner. Ally Express, page 4, 2005/04/25
PRE-MIXING: Mix the required amount Ally Express with a small amount of water to form a smooth cream without any remaining granules or in cases where agitation is adequate the product can be added to the spray tank without pre-mixing. MIXING: Half fill the spray tank or pre-mix tank in case of aerial application with water. Add the creamed product to the tank through a sieve or the product straight into the tank. Top up to the required volume while agitating continuously and wait until thoroughly mixed before application. NOTE: Ensure that thorough agitation of the spray mixture is maintained at all times. APPLICATION: Ground Application: Apply by means of a tractor mounted boom sprayer that is correctly calibrated to deliver at least 200 l spray mixture per ha and maximum 400 l/ha at a constant speed and pressure (100-200 kpa) to ensure an even delivery. Avoid overlapping of swaths and close the nozzles while starting slow movement, turning and stopping to prevent over-application. LOCATION/CROP SOIL TYPE DOSAGE (rate per hectare) Ground Application: Western, Southern and Eastern Cape Wheat and Barley (All varieties) All types. See Use Restrictions no s 3.1 and 3.2. 25 g Ally Express 25 g Ally Express + 500 ml MCPA 20 g Ally Express + 500 ml MCPA REMARKS Apply as a postemergence spray when the cereal crop is in the 3 to 5 leaf stage, but after the weeds have emerged and not exceeded the maximum recommended stage indicated below. Refer weed table 1 for weeds controlled with this application rate. Note: Variable control of wild radish can be obtained under certain conditions. Refer weed table 1&2 for weeds controlled with this application rate. Note: Dense stands of wild radish will also be controlled. Refer weed table 2 for weeds controlled by this application rate. Note: Less dense stands of wild radish will be controlled. Ally Express, page 5, 25/04/2005
NOTES Established weeds not killed by cultivation before planting and showing signs of regrowth will not be controlled. Do not apply if the crop is growing under stress such as drought, excessive moisture, etc. Transient chlorosis / necrotic spots and/or retarded growth of the crop may occur after application but this will have no effect on the yield. DO NOT exceed the recommended dosage rate. Best results are obtained whilst weeds are actively growing under moist conditions during the period of control. For mixing instructions, refer to DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
