ELIMINATE HEAT INDUCED FATIGUE Professional Liquid Cooler Instructions LOCATION AND MOUNTING: 1) This unit must be mounted horizontally with both mounting angles on the same plane as the floor. This insures that the water pick up in the tank does not cavitate. Mounting in any other configuration could lead to improper water flow with little or no cooling AND possible damage to the core due to freezing. 2) We recommend mounting the unit to the side of the driver or somewhere else that has good air flow around it. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND MOUNTING THIS UNIT IN TIGHT SPACES!! THE UNIT IS SUSEPTABLE TO CONCENTRATED HEAT AND IT NEEDS SPACE TO ADEQUATELY EXPEL THE HEATED AIR. The optimal location is one where the hoses (WATER SUPPLY/RETURN and NACA duct hose 3 ) can be as short as possible. This maximizes air flow to the unit and reduces cooling loss in the water supply/return hoses. If the unit is to be mounted to the floor, we recommend that the floor directly below be covered in heat reflective tape or to build a hat-section platform for the unit to sit on, especially if exhaust pipes are nearby. If the unit is to be elevated, a shelf must be fabricated. 3) Mark hole locations using the holes in the brackets for reference, and drill for mounting screws or system of your choice into mounting location. 1 P a g e
HOSE MAKEUP AND INSTALLATION: We have included an insulated water supply/return hose. 1) Hose should to be custom fit to your application, and they need to be kept as short as possible. 2) The water supply/return hose can be cut to length. You then need to remove the push lock fittings from the cut section by carefully cutting the tubing (be careful not to score the fitting or it will leak at the score line) and reinstalling them in the cut end of the hose. 3) For the 3 NACA Duct supply, it is imperative that the source be PRESSURE POSITIVE. It is POSSIBLE TO IMPROPERLY locate a NACA duct in a low pressure zone (like directly behind an A-pillar on a stock car at certain tracks) and at speed, air is actually being sucked out of the car. Doing this will result in several minutes of good performance, followed by the unit heating up and thus very poor performance. Make sure your NACA ducts are working like you think they are. 4) Connect 3 NACA duct hose (customer supplied) from NACA duct to 3 round portion at the rear of the unit and secure with band clamp. (Do not over tighten) IMPORTANT NOTE: FORCED NACA DUCT AIR IS CRITICAL FOR MAXIMUM COOLING TO BE ACHIEVED!!!!!! HARNESS INSTALLATION: 1) Mount the control box in a convenient location for the driver. We have included dualloc tape for easy removal; however you may need to fabricate a mounting plate for the controller to fasten to. 2) Connect supplied pigtail with 50A flat connector to 12v power source (RED 12v+, Black is ground), and connect 50A flat connector from harness to this connection. NOTE: SUPPLY WIRES MUST BE 10 GAUGE. ANYTHING SMALLER WILL CAUSE A VOLTAGE DROP AND DECREASED PERFORMANCE. DO NOT REVERSE POLARITY; DOING SO WILL CAUSE THE INTERNAL BRUSHLESS PUMP TO BURN UP INSTANTLY! 3) Finally connect 8 pin Deutsch connectors from the harness to the Liquid Cooler. 2 P a g e
OPERATION: 1) Fill the unit with clean water. 2) The tank, water supply/return hose, and shirt need to be primed and purged of air before use in a car. Hook up all three above components, remove filler from top of Liquid Cooler, turn on pump switch (left side of controller indicated by water drops), and fill with clean water until water tank is completely full and air bubbles stop. Replace cap and now the system, the hose, and the shirt are primed and can be disconnected with minimal water loss due to auto closing valves. 3) The driver can operate the system with the only the pump on and with or without cooling. The cooling switch also has a high and low setting. The cooling switch will not work unless the pump switch is turned on first, this helps reduce the chance of the cooling core from freezing and breaking. Maximum cooling may take several minutes to be achieved. 4) WARNING! The unit should not be operated without both a shirt, and a heat load! If the unit does not have a shirt or something else to complete the circuit, the pump will dead head (run without flow). This is OK, but if the unit is shut off and restarted the pump cannot start under pressure causing pump failure and damage. If there is no heat load, the core can freeze and break causing expensive core replacement. 5) If the circuit breaker should pop (in the center of the controller) it can be pushed to reset. It is a thermal breaker so you may need to wait to reset it. If it continues to pop, either there s a short in the supply wiring or a problem with the Liquid Cooler itself. The actual performance of your unit will vary depending on outside air temp, humidity, dew point, hose lengths, hose insulation, voltage drops to the harness, and the amount of cooling air supplied by the NACA duct feed. It is normal for the unit to produce water during humid days. Maximum water generation comes from having the cooling on high. MAINTENANCE: 1) After each use of the system the unit needs to be drained. Remove the filler cap and dump out contents of the system. Included with your system are 2 male connectors. Insert one male connector into the water outlet valve and the other into the water return valve. Turn on pump switch until all water stops coming out of both the water outlet and the filler cap hole. 3 P a g e
2) The last maintenance procedure you can perform is to remove the 3 NACA blower screen and remove accumulated dirt and rubber inside the opening of the housing and around the blades. To reinstall, index the screen so that the bunched up sections sit on the rivets. Check for blade to screen clearance. 3) Finally, be sure to put caps or cover the water outlet and return fittings before putting the unit back in the case to prevent bits of foam and debris from getting in the valves and thus into the pump.
