eamonn byrne landscape architecture LANGWITH COLLEGE CAMPUS UNIVERSITY OF YORK Location: Heslington East Campus, University of York, England, UK Client: University of York / Evans Property Group Architect: Carey Jones Landscape Architect: Eamonn Byrne (whilst at Robinson Design) Contractor: GMI Construction Completion date: 2012 New college campus providing accommodation and facilities for 650 students. The campus design is based on the arrangement of buildings enclosing four informal courtyards of varying sizes. Landscape elements such as the sinuous path network, sustainable urban drainage swales and grass mounds help create passive and flexible green spaces within the courtyards and provide a connection with the surrounding landscape. High quality materials and finishes further reinforce the link between individual buildings, cycle stores and social spaces to make this a successful, sustainable and interactive campus environment. www.eb-la.com

eamonn byrne landscape architecture TRINITY CHURCH OF ENGLAND HIGH SCHOOL MANCHESTER Location: Manchester, England, UK Client: Manchester City Council Architect: Ellis Williams Architects Contractor: Willmott Dixon Construction Completion Date: 2012 City centre rebuild and refurbishment as part of the Building Schools for the Future and Academies Programme. Consultation and student input have contributed to the success of this school landscape which boasts a new central landscape space with sunken amphitheatre performance area at its heart. This space has been complimented with canopy structures and seating arrangements to form a new social hub for the school. The landscape has been instrumental in integrating the new build and refurbishment components of the development. Play and sports facilities have been located to the outer areas to form a green setting for the school. High quality paving has addressed the city centre street frontage. www.eb-la.com

The design seeks to integrate the school building and its external spaces in order to improve the landscapes educational value and aesthetic. A key design focus and client requirement is to create a natural environment that will stimulate imaginative play, social interaction and natural experience/exploration in the children. eamonn byrne landscape architecture BIRKENHEAD HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMY BIRKENHEAD, MERSEYSIDE Location: Liverpool, England, UK Client: Birkenhead Academy Architect: Aedas Contractor: Willmott Dixon Construction Completion Date: 2012 Awards: Northern Design Awards 2013 Best Commercial Build This project involves new build and refurbishment of nursery, junior and senior schools. Extensive landscape remodelling has successfully integrated the new and enhanced school buildings as well as providing: upgraded car parking and drop off access zone; a tiered amphitheatre seating area; arts terrace complimenting the main historic building; and entrance courtyard space; extra sports facilities; and playground areas for the junior and nursery school including a junior amphitheatre and sensory/vegetable garden. eamonn byrne landscape architecture CROSSACRES & ASHGATE PRIMARY SCHOOL MANCHESTER Location: Wythenshawe, Manchester, England, UK Client: Manchester City Council Architect: AFL Architects Contractor: Cruden Construction Completion date: Ongoing New build and refurbishment for the co-location of Crossacres Primary School and Ashgate Specialist Support Primary School on the same site. The school landscape is focused on user needs and key features include; a new entrance plaza to Crossacres School with seating and tree planting; refurbished car park with tree planting; new play areas and activity zones and nature area including bog gardens, meadows and grass mounds. The landscape delivers an enhanced setting for both schools and opportunities for play, learning and interaction. www.eb-la.com

eamonn byrne landscape architecture LANDSCAPE AND VISUAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT TIPPERARY, IRELAND Location: Tipperary, Ireland Client: Private Client Completion Date: 2013 Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment Chapter for Environmental Statement. The proposed development consists of the demolition of an existing group of industrial buildings and structures that form part of an established food p r o c e s s i n g p l a n t a n d t h e i r replacement with a new set of buildings and structures including covered silos to 20 metres height with the main building having a height of 14 metres. The assessment predicted the impact of the proposals on landscape character and visual receptors and addressed mitigation measures to reduce any identified impacts. www.eb-la.com

eamonn byrne landscape architecture SUTTON - MALAHIDE - SWORDS PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE SCHEME DUBLIN, IRELAND Location: Dublin, Ireland Client: Fingal County Council, in partnership with the National Transport Authority. Lead Consultant: Atkins Completion date: Ongoing www.eb-la.com Design of cycle and pedestrian route to connect Sutton to Malahide to Swords. It is envisaged that this route will form part of a larger cycle route tying in with a proposed route to run adjacent to the railway viaduct from Malahide to Donabate, and the existing Sutton to Sandycove (S2S) cycle route running alongside the coast through Clontarf towards the city centre. This proposed 16km route follows the shoreline of the Malahide Estuary and Coast Road towards Baldoyle and includes areas designated as both a Special Protection Area (SPA) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). This cycle and pedestrian scheme includes the feasibility and preliminary design, Environmental Impact Assessment, Natura Impact Assessment and the planning process. EBLA is responsible for feasibility and landscape visual impact assessment as well as environmental design.

eamonn byrne landscape architecture RESIDENTIAL REGENERATION & ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE Location: Various locations, North Lincolnshire, England, UK Client: North Lincolnshire Homes (Ongo) Construction Budget: 2 million Lead Consultant: Eamonn Byrne Landscape Architecture (EBLA) Completion date: Ongoing Environmental improvement works to various social housing neighbourhoods throughout North Lincolnshire. Regeneration through the enhancement of public, communal and private spaces including streetscapes, path networks, open green space, play areas and boundary treatments. The design of these spaces will integrate enhanced planting, security, pedestrian & cycle access, car parking, and other services such as waste management. The aim of these improvements is to eliminate social and physical problems within the neighbourhoods and to enhance the quality of life for the communities. An important aspect of the success of these projects has been community consultation and close partnership with organisations including police, fire and rescue, local authority, and NLH. www.eb-la.com

eamonn byrne landscape architecture SMALL CITY GARDEN YORK, ENGLAND Location: York, England, UK Client: Private Home Owner Completion Date: 2013 Small city garden with bold exotic planting. The client s requirements were to create a lush city garden within a very confined space that would give impact and provide privacy and shelter. The garden was designed to provide year round interest; evergreen foliage plants, hardy palms and bamboo provide shelter and interest in winter, whilst during the summer months banana plants provide a touch of the tropics with their bold foliage. Seasonal foliage and flower colour is also provided by displays of container plants which are rearranged for spring summer and winter. www.eb-la.com

eamonn byrne landscape architecture PRIVATE GARDEN LONGWOOD, COUNTY MEATH, IRELAND Location: County Meath, Ireland Client: Private Residence Contractor: One Tree Hill Construction Completion Date: 2008 The client s requirements were to create a country garden, providing functional spaces for a young family with year round interest. The garden has been designed to provide a variety of living spaces and experiences through the creation of four distinct garden spaces: entrance parterre garden; lawn and play area with private niches; enclosed entertainment space; arrival space. The planting selection provides the garden with a year round structure, foliage and floral colour and interest. The use of hedges and planting for enclosure and retention of views have allowed the site to link seamlessly into surrounding countryside. www.eb-la.com
