Remove and safely discard any packaging material and promotional labels before using the appliance for the first time. To eliminate a choking hazard for young children, remove and safely discard the protective cover fitted to the power plug of this appliance. Do not use the iron for anything other than its intended use. Always turn the Variable Temperature Control to minimum, then switch off at the power outlet, then unplug the appliance when not in use. Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Allow the iron to cool completely before storing in an upright position on its heel. Do not touch hot surfaces. High temperatures are generated during use, which could cause burns. Always use the handle and warn others (especially children) of the possible dangers of burns from steam, hot water or hot soleplate, especially when ironing vertically. Do not leave the appliance unattended when in use. The iron must be used and rested on a stable surface When placing the iron on its stand, ensure that the surface on which the stand is placed is stable. The iron is not to be used if it has been dropped, if there are visible signs of damage or if it is leaking. Do not allow the iron to lay flat on the soleplate when stored as water may seep through the steam holes, if the tank is not empty. Always test the iron on a small, discreet part of the fabric to be ironed to ensure the temperature is not set too high. Always store the iron in the upright position on its heel. Do not leave the iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board. Do not use outdoors or in bathrooms. Do not store the iron with water in the water tank. Always empty the tank after use. Ensure the iron is cool before storing or wrapping the cord around the storage heel facility. OPERATING Your Breville JetSteam Iron 10

OPERATING YOUR BREVILLE JETSTEAM IRON BEFORE FIRST USE Remove any promotional material from the iron. Remove any sticker or protective cover from the soleplate. When operating the iron for the first time, iron on an old piece of fabric to ensure that the soleplate and water tank are completely clean. When the iron is used for the first time some vapour may be emitted. After a short while however, this will cease. The vapour is due to the initial heating of the materials used in the iron. It is safe and will not harm the performance of the iron. NOTE: As an important part of our quality control process, your iron has been individually tested. As a result, you may notice a small amount of condensation or water droplets on the inside of the water tank. There is no need for concern. SETTING THE TEMPERATURE Step 1. Before commencing ironing, sort all items to be ironed according to the fabrics requiring the coolest temperatures first and then work through to the fabrics requiring the higher temperatures. Step 2. Stand the iron on its heel and ensure that the Temperature Dial is turned to minimum. Step 3. Plug the power cord into a 230V or 240V power outlet and turn the power on. Step 4. Select the temperature setting required by rotating the Temperature Dial so that the desired setting is aligned with the Temperature Indicator. Step 5. The heating Indicator Light will illuminate, indicating that the iron is heating up. When the Indicator Light goes out, the iron has reached the selected temperature and is ready for use. The light will cycle on and off as the thermostat maintains the selected temperature. NOTE: The heating Indicator Light is sealed in a plastic compartment, and does not come into contact with the water in the water tank.! THE JETSTEAM IRON INCORPORATES A THERMAL SAFETY FUSE TO PROTECT THE IRON FROM OVER-HEATING. HOWEVER THE IRON SHOULD NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED WHILE IT IS CONNECTED TO THE POWER OUTLET. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD ALWAYS BE TAKEN WHEN THERE ARE CHILDREN IN THE HOME/ VICINITY OF THE IRON. 11

OPERATING YOUR BREVILLE JETSTEAM IRON! NEVER LEAVE THE IRON UNATTENDED WHILE IT IS CONNECTED TO AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD ALWAYS BE TAKEN WHEN THERE ARE CHILDREN IN THE VICINITY. FILLING THE WATER TANK Step 1. Always ensure that the iron is disconnected from the power outlet before filling with water. Step 2. Set the Steam Selector Dial to the DRY position. Step 3. Open the Water Filling Cap and with the iron held at an angle, slowly pour water from the water filling beaker provided into the filling inlet until the maximum water level is reached. Do not fill the water tank beyond the maximum water level line. Do not use vinegar, starch or other chemically descaled water. Step 4. Push the Water Filling Cap down firmly to close. OPERATING THE STEAM SETTINGS Steam ironing is only possible at higher ironing temperatures, as per the indications on the temperature dial (cotton to linen). Step 1. Plug the power cord into a 230V or 240V power outlet and turn the power on. Step 2. Set the Temperature Dial to the required position within the steam area and wait until the heating Indicator Light goes out. Step 3. Set the Steam Selector Dial to the required setting ie. From minimum to maximum steam. The iron is now ready for use. NOTE: Always ensure that the Steam Selector Dial (located in front of the Temperature Dial of the iron) is set to correspond with the setting on the Temperature Dial. If you attempt to iron with the Steam Selector Dial set to maximum and the Temperature Dial simultaneously set to a relatively low ironing temperature, the water will not be able to vaporise completely, resulting in water leaking from the soleplate. NOTE: During the ironing process, always ensure that there is sufficient water in the water tank. 12

OPERATING YOUR BREVILLE JETSTEAM IRON USING THE SHOT OF STEAM The Shot Of Steam function provides an extra burst of steam, ideal for the removal of stubborn creases and wrinkles during steam or dry ironing. Step 1. Turn the Temperature Dial to the maximum setting (ie. cotton to linen) and wait for the heating Indicator Light to go out. VERTICAL SHOT OF STEAM The Vertical Shot Of Steam allows you to use the iron for vertical ironing. This is especially useful for getting wrinkles out of hanging clothes, curtains, wall hangings etc. Simply hold the iron vertically, positioned in front with a slight distance from the item to be steamed, and press the Shot Of Steam button. Step 2. Lifting the iron slightly above the surface of the fabric, firmly press the Shot Of Steam button and then release it. An intense burst of steam will penetrate deep into the fabric. NOTE: For optimal steam output, leave an interval of at least four seconds between pressing the Shot Of Steam button. The Shot Of Steam can be used when the Steam Selector Dial is in maximum setting. For a stronger surge of steam, set the Steam Selector Dial to the DRY position.! NEVER USE THE VERTICAL SHOT OF STEAM WHILE CLOTHES ARE ON THE BODY OR DIRECT THE STEAM TOWARDS PEOPLE. 13

OPERATING YOUR BREVILLE JETSTEAM IRON DRY IRONING Step 1. Turn the Steam Selector Dial to the DRY position. This shuts off the steam flow should there be any water in the tank. 3-WAY AUTO-OFF FEATURE The Safety 3-Way Auto Off feature is designed to switch the iron off if forgotten. When the iron is left in the upright position it will shut off in approximately 8 minutes. Step 2. Select the required setting on the Temperature Dial for the fabric to be ironed. Step 3. Once the temperature has been reached, ironing may commence. USING THE FINE MIST SPRAY Spray can be used to dampen difficult fabrics, dry areas, woolen items and accidental creases. Firmly press the Spray Button (located on the handle of the iron) to produce a fine spray of water ahead of the iron and continue ironing. The spray can also be used with delicate (synthetic) fabrics which are ironed at a low temperature and therefore can not be steam ironed. When left in the ironing position it will switch off in approximately 30 seconds. NOTE: If the spray function is operated during dry ironing ensure that there is sufficient water in the water tank. When left on the side position it will switch off in approximately 30 seconds. 14

OPERATING YOUR BREVILLE JETSTEAM IRON AFTER EACH USE Step 1. Set the Steam Selector Dial to the DRY position and turn the Temperature Dial to minimum. Step 2. Switch the power off at the power outlet and disconnect the power cord from the power outlet. Once the iron has shut itself off, the Auto Off Indicator Light will blink to indicate that the iron has switched off. To reactivate the iron, simply move the iron. The heating Indicator Light will switch on when the iron is reaching the temperature selected on the Temperature Dial.! SAFETY AUTO-OFF IS DESIGNED AS A SAFETY FEATURE ONLY. IRONS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT SWITCHED ON DELIBERATELY WHILE UNATTENDED. IF SAFETY AUTO-OFF HAS ACTIVATED AND NO FURTHER IRONING IS REQUIRED, WE RECOMMEND THAT THE IRON IS SWITCHED OFF AT THE POWER OUTLET AND UNPLUGGED. ANTI-DRIP FEATURE The iron is equipped with an Anti-Drip function. The iron will automatically stop steaming when the temperature is too low. This prevents water from dripping out of the soleplate. When this function activates you will hear a click sound. It is safe and it will not harm the performance of the iron. Step 3. Open the Water Filling Cap and over a sink or a bucket, invert the iron and shake to empty the water tank. Step 4. Stand the iron in an upright position and allow to cool. Step 5. Store the iron on its heel rest (and not resting on the soleplate). To save space, the power cord may be easily wound around the storage facility. NOTE: Always store the iron standing on its heel with all the water emptied from the water tank. If the iron is stored with the soleplate facing downwards, corrosion and staining of the soleplate (from even the smallest amount of moisture left after the tank is emptied). 15

CARE & CLEANING for your Breville JetSteam Iron

CARE & CLEANING SELF CLEANING FUNCTION Your iron will give the best result and last longer if you apply Self-Cleaning regularly (once or twice a month) to remove any scale or impurities. Step 1. Set the Steam Selector Dial to the DRY position. Step 2. Fill the water tank up to the MAX FILL water level with the water filling beaker supplied. Step 3. Place the iron on its heel. Step 4. Set the Temperature Dial to Linen (max). NOTE: Once you have done this, it is normal for a little water to remain in the water tank because the iron s Anti-Drip system may prevent the tank being completely emptied. This will not affect its ironing performance. Repeat the cleaning process if the iron still contains a lot of impurities.! Only use the Self Clean feature when you want to activate the selfcleaning system. Do not hold the Steam Selector Dial to the Self Clean position whilst ironing. Step 5. Plug in at the power outlet, and switch on at the power socket. Step 6. Allow the iron to heat up until the heating Indicator Light turns off. Step 7. Turn the power off and remove the plug from the power outlet. Step 8. Hold the iron horizontally over the sink. Step 9. Turn and hold the Steam Selector Dial to the Self Clean position.! BOILING WATER AND STEAM WILL EMIT FROM THE HOLES IN THE SOLEPLATE. IMPURITIES AND SCALE (IF ANY) WILL BE FLUSHED OUT. MOVE THE IRON FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS WHILE THIS HAPPENS. 17

CARE & CLEANING CLEANING THE SOLEPLATE AND EXTERIOR Step 1. Ensure that the iron is disconnected from the power outlet and the unit has fully cooled prior to storage. Step 2. To remove residue which may have built up from certain fabric finishes, clean the soleplate with a rough cloth which has been soaked in a vinegar water solution. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. To clean the steam holes, simply use a damp cloth to wipe away any build up of lint or starch from inside the steam holes. Step 3. Wipe the outer housing with a soft, damp clean cloth and polish with a dry cloth. NOTE: Never use abrasives or scouring pads to clean the soleplate. Avoid hard contact with metal objects. Do not scratch or damage the surface of the soleplate. Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaners as they may damage the surface of the iron. Never immerse the iron or its cord and plug in water or any other liquid. 18
