FLUSH CH ICE Version 12.26.08 FC002 WATER SAVER DUAL FLUSH KIT Dear Consumer; You have purchased a high quality water saver dual flush toilet valve kit. Every care has been taken during manufacturing to insure your satisfaction. Your comments and suggestions about our product are welcome. IMPORTANT: Read instructions before beginning installation. Flush Choice is not responsible for damage caused by failure to follow these Installation Instructions. This Kit is designed for most standard two piece toilets with a 2 gravity discharge. This Kit is not designed for one-piece toilets, low profile toilets, or vacuum assist toilets. Before installation check if the toilet tank is manufactured with 2 discharge hole! Empty the water from the tank and lift up the flapper. Check the hole under the flapper to ensure that it is identical diameter as the bottom hole on the new flush valve. It is approximately 2 inside diameter. If the hole under the flapper is larger than 2 the Flush Choice kit can not be used to upgrade that toilet. If you already purchased the Flush Choice retrofit kit please return it for a full refund. Your Flush Choice kit is designed with replacement parts for all of the parts of the popular two piece toilets. However, it may be necessary to reuse certain parts which were specifically designed for your particular toilet. During disassembly, set aside all parts from your original toilet tank and do not discard. When necessary, use the original part(s) to complete the installation. TOOLS NEEDED: Various wrenches may be required for disassembly as variations occur from tank to tank Channel lock pliers Screwdrivers; flat head and phillips head Rag or sponge to wipe away residual water Low profile bowl to catch any water spillage Check to ensure that your kit includes the following components: - Fill Valve assembly - Dual Flush Valve assembly - 3 Bolts - Black Split Gasket (tank to bowl) - Flush Handle assembly - Tank Lid Decal - 4 Tank Lid Spacers If any parts are missing, call the Customer Service number indicated at the bottom of these instructions.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. Remove the lid from the tank and set lid aside. Mark the present water level in the toilet tank as a reference using a pencil to mark inside the tank wall. 2. Turn off the water supply inlet valve that supplies water to the toilet tank. Usually the water supply inlet valve to the tank is located on the wall near the base of your toilet tank. This is the valve that supplies water to the toilet s water tank. CAUTION: Due to possible missed periodic maintenance of your toilet valve ( if your water supply inlet valve has not been turned on or off over a long period of time) check and be sure that the valve has not become frozen or that the rubber seal parts have become dried out because the water inlet valve may leak if disturbed. The water supply inlet valve should turn freely and be leak free. DO NOT USE FORCE TO TURN THE VALVE. Forcing the valve to turn could BREAK THE VALVE and cause serious water damage. If the valve does not turn freely, or if the valve leaks, seek expert help. Replacement of the valve may be necessary. Friendly Hint! Exercise every water shut-off valve once in every 3 months by turning it off and on. This exercise will extend valve life by preventing the seal from drying out and leaking, as well as reducing accumulated hard water deposits inside the valve. 3. Drain the tank by flushing the toilet and emptying the remaining water from the tank using a towel or sponge. 4. Disconnect the tank water supply hose from fill valve located on the underside of the tank. 5. Disconnect the flapper s chain and remove the flush handle. Remove the flush handle by unscrewing the nut inside of the tank which fastens the handle to the tank. Note - in most cases this nut unscrews clockwise. 6. Unscrew/ remove the nuts from the bolts which fasten the tank to the bowl. These nuts are located on the underside of the tank. 7. Once the nuts are removed, lift tank off the base and set tank on a secure surface. Remove the bolts from the tank. New bolts and nuts are provided in your Kit. 8. Remove the large rubber donut, plastic nut and washer from the flush valve located on the underside of the tank. Remove the flush valve body from the inside of the tank. 9. Remove the fill valve by unscrewing the nut on the under side of the tank. 10. Check to insure that the area around the tank and the bowl openings in the toilet base are clean and free from residue. Clean around the holes if necessary. New Fill Valve Installation 1. 11. Locate the locking collar at the base of the Fill Valve s body (See illustration #1). Unlock the locking collar by pulling down on it (about ¼ ) so that it is released from its locked position. Firmly grasp the base of the Fill Valve and rotate the Fill Valve body clockwise (about 1/8 turn) to its unlocked position. Pull the base down a little from the body so it will be free for further adjustment in step 19. Remove the nut and white plastic washer from the threaded area of the base of the Fill Valve. Do not remove the black seal! 12. Insert the new Fill Valve into its location in the inside of the tank (into the smaller hole), (See illustration #2) insuring that the black washer at the base of the Fill Valve has not been removed. Fasten Fill 2. Valve to the tank on the underside of the tank, screwing the white nut (with the white plastic washer) on to the threads of the outer side of the tank. Before tightening, carefully position the Valve so that there is clearance between the walls of the tank and the float so that the float will be able to move freely and not bind or scrape the sides of the tank. Install the locking nut and washer snug to the base. CAUTION: Do not over tighten nut. Locking Collar Fill Valve Locking Nut & Washer Fill Valve FLUSHCHOICE - 04

13. Remove large locking nut and white plastic washer from Flush Valve base. Do not remove the black seal! Hold the lower portion of the base firmly and twist/rotate the upper body portion to its unlocked position, so that the base will become separated from Flush Valve body (See illustrations #3 and #4). Insert Flush Valve base (with the black seal remaining in position) into the tank s discharge hole. At the underside of the tank, fasten the Flush Valve base with the large nut and white washer (See illustration #5). Do not overtighten. 14. Install the body of the Flush Valve into the base of the Flush Valve and lock it in place by rotating it to the left or right (See illustration #6). Note that flush valve can be rotated 360 degrees to the most favorable position. 15. On the underside of the tank, insert the tank to bowl Black Rubber Donut over the threaded area of the flush valve outlet (See illustration #7). Note that the black split doughnut/gasket is comprised of interlocking pieces. Observe the original donut/gasket and make a determination to use the larger donut/gasket alone, or both (See Illustration #7A). 16. Place the tank onto the toilet base, making sure that the Black Rubber Donut is in alignment with the recess of the toilet base (See illustration #8). Align the tank and bowl bolt holes with the bolt holes in the base and insert bolts through from inside the tank into the holes in the toilet base. Before inserting the bolts, make sure that a New Flush Valve Installation 3. 4. Body Base Flush Valve Locking Nut & Washer 6. 7. metal washer, plastic washer, and rubber gasket are placed under the head of each bolt (See illustration #8A). On the underside of the tank, insert black rubber and metal washers on bolts and use either the nuts or wing nuts to fasten the bolts using the wrench provided for the hex nuts. Using the nuts or wing nuts is a matter of choice, both will work. Check to be sure that the tank is fastened adequately so that the tank is firmly in place and will not rock. Caution: Do not over tighten; 8. 8A Black Split Gasket Black Rubber Donut 7A. 5. overtightening may cause the bowl or tank to crack. Some tank model installations may vary slightly from the instructions above. Please observe tank assembly at disassembly and use the same assembly method. New Flush Handle Installation 17. Unscrew small wing nut counterclockwise from handle shaft and remove handle housing. Unscrew the flanged wing nut from the Flush Handle Housing by turning the nut clockwise (See illustration #9). Inset Flush Handle housing through the hole in the tank. It may necessary to remove the black square washer (depending on the model of the tank). Fasten the housing with the flanged wing nut by turning the wing nut counter-clock wise. (See Illustration #9) Insert the flush handle in desired position. The next steps will depend on whether your tank is a front mount handle or a side mount handle. FOR FRONT MOUNT HANDLE Holding handle in place, install switchbox onto shaft so that the red side of the switchbox is facing the handle and the cable is pointing downward or sideways (See Illustration #10A). Tighten the wing nut. 9. FOR SIDE MOUNT HANDLE Holding handle in place, install switch box onto shaft so that the green side of the switchbox is facing the handle and the cable is pointing downward or sideways (See Illustration #10B). Tighten the wing nut (See illustration # 10B). 10. 10A Switch Box Flanged Nut 10B Green Red Handle Red Green Setting the Water Level in the Tank 18. Adjust the Fill Valve height by raising or lowering the body of the Fill Valve until the top of the green float is at the same height as the pencil marked water level (See illustration # 11). 19. Attention: Make sure the Fill Valve is locked in position by twisting it counter clockwise until it locks (See illustration #11A). Raise the locking collar to its locked position. Try twisting the Fill Valve left or right to insure that the Fill Valve has locked itself in position. If not locked, make necessarily correction according to instruction # 10. 20. Set the Flush Valve overflow by unlocking the locking ring by pushing on it. Raise the overflow pipe (See illustration #12) so that the top of overflow pipe is about 1 above the marked water level and lock the locking ring by pushing it in to its locked position. The purpose of the overflow is to prevent accidental flooding. If the overflow is set too low, the water from the tank may drain out and the Fill Valve will keep filling. 11. 11A 12. Overflow Pipe Locking Ring FLUSHCHOICE - 06

Toilet Bowl Fill Control Valve 21. Connect water inlet hose to the underside of the tank and open the water inlet valve. Check for water leaks. 22. Connect supply tube from fill valve to the supply valve (See illustration #13). The toilet bowl fill control valve allows you to adjust the rate at which the bowl fills before the water overflows beyond the bowl s runoff level and wastes water. In order to determine the water level in the bowl before it begins to overflow and is wasted, place a pencil to mark at top of the water level in the bowl. Flush the toilet with a half flush. 13. If the valve is still filling the bowl after the water reaches the pencil mark, adjust the toilet bowl fill control valve (See illustration #13A) to reduce the amount of water filling the bowl. By trial and error, turn the overflow control valve to different settings until the tank supply shuts off simultaneously as the bowl reaches the proper fill level (pencil mark). 23. Minor water level adjustments can be made by turning the white plastic screw on top of the green float (See illustration #14). By rotating the screw 13A Fill Control Valve clockwise the water level increases. By turning the screw counterclockwise, the water level decreases. Turn the screw so that the top of the float is even with the water level according to the pencil mark. Recheck and adjust the overflow height if needed, and lock the overflow safety ring by pushing the ring in to the locked position (See illustration #14). 14. Fine Adjustment Screw Adjusting the Half Flush Volume 24. Adjusting the half flush volume is important. Making the correct adjustment provides the maximum savings of water by using the correct amount of water for the half flush. Raising or lowering the green float (See illustration #15) adjusts the amount of discharge water to be used for flushing. Raising the green float causes a reduction of the discharge water volume upon flushing. Lowering the green float causes an increase of discharge water upon flushing. Locate the green float and set (slide) the green float to setting # 9 on the indicator (See illustration #15A) and flush, observing adequacy of water flow. If not enough water was available for a good flush, lower green float down (See illustration #15), flushing each time, until enough water is flushed to clear the bowl. This can be best observed by throwing a piece of toilet tissue in the bowl each time you flush. When the correct setting is reached, the bowl clears properly. Repeat this process to make sure enough water will flush to cleanse the bowl. A small flush usually uses a half of a tank (or less) of water. Take time to experiment with the settings and adjustments to get obtain optimum water savings from the flush valve for your individual toilet. Once the float is set there will be no need for future adjustment. If future adjustments are desired, merely repeat any of these steps. 15. 15A. Green Float Green Float Level Indicators FLUSHCHOICE - 07

Adjusting the Full Flush Volume 25. Adjust the full flush volume by raising or lowering the red slide button (See illustration #16). Raising the red slide button releases less water to flush and the flush time is shorter. (To flush the full amount of water the red slide button is usually set almost to its lowest position, one or two notches up from the lowest position.) Once it is set, there will be no need for future adjustment. However, future adjustments may be made by repeating these steps. 26. Carefully place tank lid onto top of tank. The tank lid should fit on the tank without interfering with or coming into contact with the switchbox. If the lid does come into contact with the switch box, remove the lid and slide the 4 Tank Lid Spacers into position on the tank which will raise the lid and prevent the lid from contact with the switchbox (See illustration # 17). 16. 17 Normal Operation 27. (See Illustration #18) Remove the backing from the colored decal and place the decal on the lid of the tank in a location that will be visible to users. Please Note that the flush handle is a split handle with dual levers. The handle with the green dot is the handle to use for a half flush. The handle with the red dot is the handle to use for a full flush. 28. IMPORTANT Following installation and over the course of several days, as with any new plumbing connections, it is recommended to frequently make a careful inspection of all water connections to be sure there is no water leakage. If leaks are detected, tighten nuts as necessary. 18.
