AS/NZS 60598.2.10:2015 2 PREFACE This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee EL-041, Lamps and Related Equipment, to supersede AS/NZS 60598.2.10:1998, Luminaires, Part 2.10: Particular requirements Portable child-appealing luminaires, six months after publication. Until that time, both editions of the Standard will operate in parallel. It is anticipated that the 1998 edition will then be withdrawn. The objective of this Standard is to specify particular minimum safety requirements for portable luminaires for children to reduce the risk of electric shock and the fire hazard of such devices. This Standard is an adoption with national modifications; it has been reproduced from IEC 60598-2-10, Ed. 2.0 (2003), Luminaires, Part 2-10: Particular requirements Portable luminaires for children, and has been varied as indicated to take account of Australian/New Zealand conditions. Variations made to IEC 60598-2-10, Ed. 2.0 (2003) form the Australian and New Zealand variations for the purpose of the IECEE CB Scheme for recognition of testing to standards for safety of electrical equipment (the CB Scheme). They are listed in Appendix ZZ. An Appendix ZA has been added, which lists informative references for Australia and New Zealand. This Standard is structured as follows: (a) Preface (including normative Australian and New Zealand references). (b) IEC 60598-2-10, Ed. 2.0 (2003), unedited from the contents page to the final clause of the IEC Standard. (c) (d) Appendix ZZ Australian/New Zealand variations to the IEC Standard. Appendix ZA Informative references for Australia/New Zealand. This Standard introduces the following in Appendix ZZ: (i) Clarification of products within the scope of this Standard and clarified definitions. (ii) Revised requirements for Class II and Class III luminaires. (iii) Particular requirements for power supplies for Class II and Class III luminaires. (iv) Prohibition of small removable parts, sharp edges and hot surfaces. (v) Additional requirements to prevent a hazard if an overvoltage is present. (vi) Additional requirements for power supplies, which are required to be tested to and comply with the requirements for protection code IP4X. (vii) Additional requirements to prevent fire hazards. (viii) Additional requirements for luminaires with non-replaceable light sources to prevent photobiological hazards. This Standard is to be read in conjunction with AS/NZS 60598.1, Luminaires, Part 1: General requirements and tests (IEC 60598-1, Ed. 7.0 (2008) MOD). The essential safety requirements in AS/NZS 3820, Essential safety requirements for electrical equipment, that could be applicable to portable luminaires for children are covered by this Standard, taken in conjunction with any other relevant requirements affecting safety. As this Standard is reproduced from an International Standard, the following applies: (A) In the source text this part of IEC 60598 should read this Australian/New Zealand Standard. (B) A full point substitutes for a comma when referring to a decimal marker.

AS/NZS 60598.2.10:2015 3 Unless otherwise indicated in Appendix ZZ, references to International Standards in this Standard should be replaced by references to Australian or Australian/New Zealand Standards, as follows: Reference to International Standard Australian/New Zealand Standard IEC AS/NZS 60598 Luminaires 60598 Luminaires 60598-2-4 Part 2: Particular requirements Section 4: Portable general purpose luminaires 60598.2.4 Part 2.4: Particular requirements Portable general purpose luminaires (IEC 60598-2-4, Ed. 2.0 (1997) MOD) 61347 Lamp controlgear 61347 Lamp controlgear 61347-2-2 Part 2-2: Particular requirements for d.c. or a.c. supplied electronic stepdown convertors for filament lamps 61347.2.2 Part 2.2: Particular requirements for d.c. or a.c. supplied electronic stepdown convertors for filament lamps (IEC 61347-2-2, Ed. 1.2 (2006) MOD) 61558 Safety of power transformers, power supply units and similar 61558-2-6 Part 2-6: Particular requirements for safety isolating transformers for general use 61558-2-7 Part 2-7: Particular requirements for transformers for toys 61558 Safety of transformers, reactors, power supply units and similar products for supply voltages up to 1 100 V 61558.2.6 Part 2.6: Particular requirements and tests for safety isolating transformers and power supply units incorporating safety isolating transformers (IEC 61558-2-6 Ed 2, MOD) 61558.2.7 Part 2.7: Particular requirements and tests for transformers and power supplies for toys The terms normative and informative have been used in this Standard to define the application of the appendix to which they apply. A normative appendix is an integral part of a Standard, whereas an informative appendix is for information and guidance only. In this Standard, the terms clause and section give effect to the same meaning and may be used interchangeably.
