n A Overview AN1035 - Integrating with an intruder alarm system 22/09/2006 When using alarm integration, will monitor whether the intruder alarm is armed or disarmed. If the alarm is armed, will only allow access to users who have the authority to disarm the system. Users who do not have the authority to disarm the intruder alarm will be denied access, regardless of their normal access rights. When allowing access, will send a signal to disarm the alarm automatically meaning that the users will no longer have to enter a code into a keypad or go to a dedicated intruder alarm reader. Configuring to allow alarm integration To activate the alarm integration software the correct check box must be ticked on the features tab in the server configuration utility. Configuring a door to control the intruder alarm To enable alarm integration at a specific door the enable tick box must be checked on the intruder alarm tab in the doors screen. Once this is done settings can be made to: Define if the signal from the intruder alarm is open or closed when the alarm is armed Specify the duration for which the contacts should close for (0.1-10 sec) Open the door on the third attempt even if the alarm cannot be disarmed by Specify the length of time the button should be active for after presenting a token to the reader (up to 120 secs) 1
Allowing users to control the alarm system When the intruder alarm interface is installed as part of a tick box labelled This user can arm/ disarm the intruder alarm appears in each user record. This is ticked to give the user the authority to control the alarm. Disarming the alarm When the alarm is armed and a user, who is allowed to disarm the system, presents their card at the reader The reader will acknowledge the card but the amber and red LED s will flash to indicate that the alarm is set The normal green flashing LED will flash once the intruder alarm has been disarmed by The door will open in the normal way The reader will now work as normal for all users until the alarm is armed 1) Using a single reader and ACU - a user with the correct system rights will present their card to Arming the alarm When it is time to arm the alarm there are 3 methods that can be used. To conform with DD243 regulations method 2 should be used. one of the designated readers, following the acceptance of their card they will be given a period of time to press a button installed for the purpose of confirming that the alarm is to be armed. Once 2
pressed the intruder alarm will arm itself in the normal way. If the button is not pressed within the allotted time the user will be given access in the normal way leaving the alarm disarmed. To set alarm: Present token & push button door access control unit 3
2) Using two readers and ACU s - using this method a user who is allowed to arm the alarm is given access to the second, dedicated, alarm ACU. They can then simply present their card to the reader. As this reader is dedicated to the intruder alarm the alarm can be set without the requirement for the additional confirmation from the alarm button. Only alarm users should be given access rights for the reader used for setting the alarm. For further information on access levels see Setting access permissions. This method should be used to ensure compliance with DD243. For access control and unsetting the alarm door access control unit For setting the alarm door access control unit 4
3) Using a single K-series or KP-series keypad and ACU - using this method a user with the correct system rights can arm the alarm using the outside (in) keypad connected to an alarm ACU. Once a user presses the * key they will be given 7 seconds to present their card and/or enter a pin, otherwise the user will be given access in the normal way leaving the alarm disarmed. Keypad door access control unit When the alarm integration is enabled on an ACU, the Relay 2 toggles option under action is greyed out. If you require alarm integration at an ACU the lock release must be connected to relay 1; relay 2 cannot be used to toggle. If an ACU that has alarm integration enabled is held open during a timezone, the ACU will not automatically unlock unless the intruder alarm has been disarmed. 5
