ELECTRIC LAWN RAKE The numbers in the following text correspond with the pictures at page 2-3. Always read the instruction for electrical products carefully before use. It will help you understand your product more easily and avoid unnecessary risks. Keep this instruction manual in a safe place for future use. Read the following safety instructions and also the enclosed safety instructions. Keep these instructions in a safe place! 1. Keep work area clear Cluttered areas and benches invite injuries. 2. Consider work area environment Do not expose power tools to rain. Do not use power tools in damp or wet locations. Keep work area well lit. Do not use power tools in presence of flammable liquids or gases. 3. Guard against electric shock Prevent body contact with grounded surfaces (e.g. pipes, radiators, refrigerators). 4. 8. Dress properly Always wear appropiate personal protective equipment (PPE). Do not wear loose clothing or Jewellery. They can be caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves and nonskid/toe protected footwear are recommended when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair. 9. Use safety glasses Also use face or dust mask when operation is dusty. 10. Do not abuse cord Never carry tool by cord or yank it to disconnect it from electrical socket. Keep cord from heat, oil and sharp edges. 11. Do not overreach Keep proper footing and balance at all times. 12. Maintain tools with care Keep tools sharp and clean for better and safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Inspect tool cords periodically and, if damaged, have repaired by authorized service facility. Inspect extension cords periodically and replace if damaged. Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. 13. Disconnect tools When not in use, before servicing and when changing accessories such as blades, bits and cutters. 14. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches Form the habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from tool before turning it on. 15. Avoid unintentional starting Do not carry plugged-in tools with finger on switch. Be sure switch is off when plugging in. 16. Outdoor use extension cords When tool is used outdoors, use only extension cords intended for use outdoors and so marked. Always use tool in conjunction with a residual circuit breaker device. 17. Stay alert Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate tool when you are tired. 18. Check damaged parts Before further use of the tool, a guard or other part that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other conditions that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorized service centre unless otherwise indicated elsewhere in this instructions manual. Have defective switches replaced by an authorized centre. Do not use tool if switch does not turn on and off. 19. Warning The use of any other accessory or attachment other than recommended in this operation instructions or the catalogue may present a risk of personal injury. 20. Have your tool repaired by an expert This appliance is manufactured to very high standards and meets relevant safety regulations. Repairs should only be done by a suitable qualified electrical engineer or otherwise. Cutting the grass To avoid unnecessary overloading of the motor, push the machine in a suitable speed (not too fast). 5. SERVICE & MAINTENANCE Warning! Unplug the electric cable (power source) prior to any maintenance or preparatory storage operations. 21. Hearing protection should be worn (PPE). Special safety instructions Electricity We strongly recommend the use of an Residual Current Device (RCD) of not more than 30 ma, at the plug socket when using this appliance. All electrical connections e.g. extension cable, must be of an approved waterproof type for outdoor use and marked accordingly. Extension cables must be threecore, one of which is EARTH. The machines are designed to function problem-free for a long period with a minimum of maintenance. Through regular cleaning and correct treatment, you help assure a long working life for your machine. Troubleshooting Persons Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the appliance. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. The operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property. The machine fails to operate. Machine functions intermittently. Machine vibrates excessively. Machine is not switched on correctly. Extension cable damaged. Extension cable damaged. Machines internal wiring damaged. Point-assembly is out of balance. See chapter 4. Inspect cable, replace if damaged. Inspect cable, replace if damaged. Contact service centre. Check point-assembly for damages. Cleaning Grass or soil residues shall be removed with a brush and wooden trowel. Clean the housing regularly with a soft cloth, preferably every time it is used. Remove stubborn dirt with a soft rag moistened in soapy water. Do not use any solvents such as petrol, alcohol, ammonia, etc. as such substances can damage the plastic parts. Lubrication The appliance does not need any extra lubrication. Faults Should a fault occur, e.g. after wear of a part, please contact the service address on the warranty card. In the back of this manual you find an exploded view showing the parts that can be ordered. Environment To prevent damage during transport, the appliance is delivered in a solid packaging which consists largely of reusable material. Therefore please make use of options for recycling the packaging. Preparation Never operate the machine while people, especially children, or pets are nearby. Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property. Wear ear protection and safety glasses at all times while operating the machine. Before using, always visually inspect to see that the points, bolts are not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged points and bolts in sets to preserve balance. For rear discharge appliances with exposed rear rollers, when used without a catcher, full eye protection shall be worn. Do not operate the appliance when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Thoroughly inspect the area where the appliance is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires, bones, and other foreign objects. Before using, always check if the blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly are not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to preserve balance. On multi-bladed appliances, take care as rotating one blade can cause other blades to rotate. Operation Operate the machine only in daylight or in good artificial light. Avoid operating the machine in wet grass or take additional precautions to avoid slipping. Always work across the face of slopes, never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes. Do not operate the machine on steep slopes. Stop the points if the machine has to be tilted for transportation. Do not operate the points when crossing surfaces other than grass, and when transporting the machine to and from the working area. Do not change the engine governor settings or over-speed the engine. Disengage all point and drive clutches before starting the engine. Start the engine or switch on the motor carefully according to instructions and with feet well away from the point(s). 12 Gardenline Gardenline 09
Do not start the engine when standing in front of the discharge chute. Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times Avoid operating the appliance in wet grass, where feasible. Always be sure of your footing on slopes. Walk, never run. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes. Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the appliance towards you. Never operate the appliance with defective guards or shields, or without safety devices, for example deflectors and/or grass catchers, in place. Do not tilt the appliance when switching on the motor, except if the appliance has to be tilted for starting. In this case, do not tilt it more than absolutely necessary and lift only the part which is away from the operator. Always ensure that both hands are in the operating position before returning the appliance to the ground. Never pick up or carry an appliance while the motor is running. Pull the plug from the socket: Whenever you leave the machine; Before clearing a blockage; Before checking, cleaning or working on the appliance; After striking a foreign object. Inspect the appliance for damage and make repairs as necessary; If the appliance starts to vibrate abnormally (check immediately). USE Switching ON/OFF Fig. 5 Push the round button with one hand Draw and hold the switch handle with another hand Release the round button Hold the switch handle during the entire period of Electric Lawn Rake operation Releasing the switch handle will switch off the Electric Lawn Rake Adjusting the cutting height Fig 4a - 4b There are three raking height positions on your electric lawn rake: low, medium and high. These are selected by altering the position of the three-position height adjusters located on the rear roller. Maintenance and storage Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure To reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, silencer, battery compartment and petrol storage area free of grass, thatch, moss, leaves or excessive grease. Examine the machine regularly and replace worn or damaged parts for safety. Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight to be sure the appliance is in safe working condition. Check the grass catcher frequently for wear of deterioration. Replace worn of damaged parts for safety. 3. ASSEMBLY Handle Fig. 2a - 2c Insert the lower handle tube into main body. Tighten the lower handle unit on the main body with help of a screw on each side Secure the electrical supply tube cable to the lower handle tube using the cable clip provided. Loosely connect the upper handle with lower handle Assemble the handle using securing bolts. The bolt should be on the outside and the nut on the inside. Place complete handle unit on the main body. Press the lock buttons on each three-position height adjuster and rotate both adjusters Release the lock buttons and allow them to engage in the main body Note 1: Both three-position height adjusters (left-right) must be set to the same position. Note 2: The front wheels (also adjustable in 3 positions) should be in same position as rear roller. Example: when rear roller is in low position, front wheels should also be in low position. Use different positions Low: Use this setting for a vigorous rake and removing moss and weeds. Medium: Use this setting for a moderate raking. Suitable for most lawns. High: Use this setting for a light rake and sweeping the lawn or lifting flattened grass. Also ideal for raking fallen leaves. Tips To obtain the best results, rake your lawn regularly but do not rake when the grass is wet. Press downwards on the handle to stop the wheels from dropping over the edge, when raking over the edge of the lawn. To extend the life of the point-assembly remove debris and stones from the lawn. Do not force the electric lawn rake through grass over 75mm/3 inch long. Start with raking in one direction. Then proceed at right angles until the whole lawn has been completed. At the beginning and end of each grass cutting season give your lawn a thorough scarifying. 10 Gardenline Gardenline 11
