Installation recommendations NOTA : Sound pressure levels depend on each system and its surrounding environment. As such, the levels listed above are given for information only. Here, they are given for sound pressure levels measured in a free field, with a directivity of 2, and at a distance of 10 metres from the unit. We remind you that only sound power levels are comparable and certified. As per ISO 3744 Lp = Lw - 10 log S Water quality criteria It is essential to install a a 600 micron water filter on the unit s water inlet. An appropriate filter is available as an option from CIAT. The quality of the water used directly affects whether or not the hot water unit operates correctly in accordance with specifications and with the assurance of an optimised service life. Poor quality water can result in fouling or corrosion and can allow algae or microorganisms to form. It is essential to analyse the water to guarantee that it is suitable for use with the unit and to determine whether or not chemical treatment is sufficient to achieve sufficient quality or whether a water softener and/or demineralisation system is necessary. The analysis must confirm whether or not the water is compatible with the materials used in the water circuit: - 99.9% copper tubes brazed with copper and silver. - Threaded bronze couplings or flat steel flanges, depending on the unit model. - Plate heat exchangers and AISI 316-1.4401 stainless steel connections, brazed with copper and silver. The guarantee shall be void if these instructions are not followed. Lifting and handling The utmost safety precautions must be taken when lifting and handling the unit. It is essential to comply with the lifting diagram affixed to the unit and included in the Instructions, Installation, Before attempting to lift the unit, make sure the path leading to its intended location is free from obstacles. Always handle vertically; never tilt the unit. Choosing a location for the unit Standard versions of the are designed for indoor installation. Outdoor versions are optionally available; precautions must be taken to protect them against frost. Particular attention must be paid to ensure sufficient clearance for maintenance. The unit must be installed on a perfectly flat, level, noncombustible surface. The floor must be strong enough to withstand the weight of the machine during operation. Noise pollution from auxiliary equipment such as pumps should be studied thoroughly. Potential noise transmission routes should be studied, with assistance from an acoustical engineer if necessary, before installing the unit. In particular, flexible sleeves on pipes are highly recommended (available as an option). The room in which the unit is installed must comply with the requirements of EN 378-3 and other specifications applicable on the installation site. Installation of accessories supplied separately Several optional accessories are supplied separately and must be installed on the unit on site. It is essential to comply with the Instructions, Installation, Electrical connections It is essential to comply with the Instructions, Installation, All information concerning electrical connections is stated on the wiring diagrams provided with the unit. Always follow this information. Electrical connections must be made in accordance with best current practices and applicable standards and regulations. Electrical connections to be wired on site: - Electrical power supply to unit. - External operation control. - Remote signalling. It should be noted that the unit s electrical system is not protected against lightning strikes. Appropriate protection against transient phenomena must therefore be installed on site in the electric power supply box. Water connections It is essential to comply with the Instructions, Installation, All pipes must be correctly aligned and slope toward the system s drain valve. Pipes must be installed and connected, with sufficient space for access to panels, and thermally insulated. Pipe brackets and attachments must be independent to avoid any vibrations or forces on the unit. Water shut-off and control valves must be fitted when the unit is installed. Water connections on site: - Water supply with pressure-reducing valve. - Evaporator, condenser and discharge. The following are a few examples of accessories essential to any hydraulic system and which must also be installed: - Expansion vessel. - Drain tappings at pipe low points. - Exchanger shut-off valves equipped with filters. - Air vents at pipe high points. - Check the system s water capacity (install a buffer water tank if necessary). - Flexible connection sleeves at exchanger inlets and outlets, if necessary. - Manual water flow rate adjustment valves. - Thermometers on each water inlet and outlet to allow all the necessary checks during start-up and maintenance. 10

Important: - The pressure in the water circuits must be less than 8 bar (4 bar for an intermediate loop). - Place the expansion vessel before the pump. - Do not place any valves on the expansion vessel. - Test the water quality in accordance with the relevant technical requirements. - Provide appropriate protection to protect the machine and the hydraulic system against freezing, such as the possibility of draining the circuit. - Flush pipes with clean water to remove contaminants before finalising the hydraulic connections. Switching on for the first time TO units must be commissioned by CIAT or a CIAT-approved contractor. It is essential to comply with the Instructions, Installation, Partial list of pre-commissioning checks: - Correct positioning of unit. - Power supply protections. - Phases and direction of rotation. - Wiring connections on unit. - Direction of flow in unit. - Cleanliness of water circuit. - Water flow rate at specified value. - Pressure in the refrigeration circuit. - Direction of rotation of compressor. - Water pressure drops and flow rates. - Operating readings. 842/2006/EC relating to certain greenhouse gases, and with the corresponding implementing orders. Note about domestic hot water supply systems: - Standard EN 1717 states that a customer s domestic hot water supply cannot be in direct contact with the unit s condenser. The two must be separated by a heat exchanger. The optional secondary-circuit gasketed plate exchanger is strongly recommended if the storage tank is not fitted with an internal exchanger. - is used to preheat domestic hot water. Its temperature must be raised using the main means of heating and in compliance with regulations to prevent the growth of Legionella bacteria in the system. Important: all safety precautions must be taken so that the water temperature at points of use cannot exceed 60 C during treatment. To limit scale deposits, it is advisable to continuously circulate water inside the optional secondary gasketed plate exchanger. If is used with a tank with a built-in exchanger (no optional secondary exchanger) and if anti-freeze is used in the exchanger s water circuits, it must be food grade (such as monopropylene glycol). Never use monoethylene glycol or any other toxic anti-freeze Maintenance operations Specific preventive maintenance operations are required at regular intervals and should be performed by CIAT-approved contractors. The operating settings must be recorded on a special checklist and sent to CIAT. It is essential to comply with the Instructions, Installation, You must take out a maintenance contract with a CIATapproved refrigeration equipment specialist. Such a contract is required even during the warranty period Leaktightness inspections and leak reduction operations must be performed in accordance with European directive This document is non-contractual. As part of its policy of continual product improvement, CIAT reserves the right to make any technical modification it feels appropriate without prior notification.
