Insekdoder WEERSTANDSBESTUUR: EC is 'n groepkode 1B insekdoder. Integreer ander beheermaatreëls (chemies, verbouing, biologies) in insekbeheer programme. GUAVAS Fruit flies APRICOTS Codling moth PEACHES Bryobia mite CUCURBITS (squashes, marrows, cucumbers, etc.): Pumpkin flies 120 m /100 water Apply one to two sprays as follows: (a) In those regions where fruit flies reach the orchards at a relatively late stage or where effective control has been maintained in early varieties. Spray once i.e. 10 days before commencement of picking. (b) In those regions where fruit flies breed in early fruit varieties in the vicinity. Spray twice i.e. 4 weeks and 10 days respectively before commencement of picking. Apply two sprays four weeks and 10 days before commencement of picking. This will generally provide protection into the cooler winter period, when natural fruit fly activity is depressed. In areas where warm winter months are experienced, and fruit fly outbreaks occur, the trees must be picked very thoroughly and again sprayed with 500 EC. No fruit should then be picked for another 10 days. If necessary a further application can again be carried out as described above 3 to 4 weeks later. The addition of a wetting agent is advisable. Apply as a full coverage spray 3-4 weeks after petal drop and repeat application 2-3 weeks later in case of severe infestation. Spray when infestations are noticed and repeat when necessary. Shortly after the commencement of flowering apply a thorough coverage spray and repeat at intervals of 2-3 weeks. When spraying ensure that the fruit is well wetted. Orchard sanitation is very important in the control of weevil and fruit fly. Fruit that has fallen off, rotten fruit and seeds must be collected as from November until harvesting is completed. Destroy it by means of burying (at least 600 mm deep), immersing in water plus oil in old oil drums or by putting it through a hammer mill. 2. Do not apply more than 3 sprays per season. APPLES, PEARS Fruit fly Codling moth 50 m /100 water 50 m /100 water On late apple and pear varieties, in areas where fruit fly breed in earlier fruits in close proximity to the orchards, apply 10-14 days before commencement of picking. When harvesting is extended over a long period, it may be advisable to apply a second spray 3-4 weeks after the first application, but not within 10 days of picking. Sprays of applied for the control of fruit fly will simultaneously provide control of codling moth. Apply as a full cover spray at 2-3 weekly intervals, commencing at the ¾ petal drop stage.
