Electric is design build we have provided lighting fixture specifications and layout. 2) In the past CMC has provided electrical fixtures (i.e., recessed cans). Will CMC be providing any or all lighting fixtures including those for Alternate #1? Fixtures to be provided by contractor. 3) Need clarification on detail 8/S.0 as far as how far does the fascia extend past the structural beam. This should be coordinated with the architect and field verified. 4) How often will detail 7/S.0 be needed in order to support the ledger? For PL connections of ledger to bean, (4) total with one each end & (2) equally spaced at about third points. Also, the bearing PL 3/8 x 3 x 3 should be installed at each as shown on the bid set dated 6/7/13. 5) Need confirmation that we are to use detail 13/S.0 for connection of the beams at the ends of the fascia on the north canopy. Yes 6) The fascia plate will need to be fabricated in sections and field welded together due to the length of the rolled section. Does the Architect have a preference where we make the field weld or is there a bolted connection detail that he can provide to make the connection? Bolted connection in the middle if 2 section, or at third points if 3 sections. 7) After reviewing the plans for the existing building, it appears that there is a stub column supporting the second floor window wall that may be attached to the beam to be removed as part of Alternate #1. Please confirm whether or not shoring will be required during removal and replacement of this beam. This beam supports a section of the 2 nd level floor and a window/curtain wall at the 2 nd level. 8) Detail 2/A4.1 does not show the L2x2 ledger welded on the back of the fascia plate as shown on detail 2/S0.0. Please confirm that this angle is continuous along the fascia plate except where the vertical L3x3 is. Confirmed 9) Need details showing how the new W8x28 (Alternate #1) connects to the existing structure. Single plate (5/16 ) simple shear tabs with (2) 3/4" diameter bolts at each end. 10) There is not a connection detail called out for the ends of the fascia plate on the north canopy. Are we to use detail 8/S0.0? Yes 11) None of the shear tab plates shown in the connection details are dimensioned or have welding requirements provided. Is the structural engineer going to provide these missing details or do we have to hire a structural engineer to provide these details during the submittal process? These are AISC standard connections the details of which are prescribed in their publications. The steel supplier should represent the standard connection in their shop drawings and we will review the shop drawings to verify that it is correct and adequate for the loading. 12) We came up with a problem on installing the W8x28 and the HSS 12x3 that connects to existing structural behind the brick veneer. We don't see any way to install these in one piece without having to remove a whole lot of brick. At the HSS 12x3 we will need the brick removed on the corner back to the face of the existing column on both ends which is over 5-1/2" behind the face of the brick. This way we can slide the HSS into place between the existing columns and set it on the seat angles. Confirmed 12a) At the Alt. #1, W8x28, from the existing plans it looks like it connects to an existing beam which is 9-1/2" behind the brick on the north end. The existing plans do not show any structural on the south end inside the stair well where it shows to connect the south end. So we're not sure what kind of connection we are doing there. But in order to slide the beam back up under the 2nd floor deck and inside the wall back to the existing structural we are going to need a couple of feet of brick removed around each connection point to angle it in and line it up between the columns. A possible solution to this much demo would be to have the structural engineer design a bolted or welded connection at the mid-point of the beam. That way we can slide each end in separately and then connect at the middle and ends. Either way, we need some details for how we are connecting to the existing before we can accurately bid this. Please refer to item #9 above for connections at each end of the beam. We recommend consulting the steel supplier to estimate the cost of field splicing the beam to develop the maximum capacity of the beam in service to compare with the cost of the masonry work required.
