Program Goals
Design Goals Create a space defined by a series of thresholds that provides: Layers of space / visual depth / screens / sequence. A sense of entry to the upper courtyard that feels welcoming and distinct. Separation of sub-spaces within the courtyard that accommodate multiple groups to use the space simultaneously with comfort and various degrees of privacy. Create a rationale for the layout of site features that provides: Simple geometry / harmony of form / a sense of calm. Flexible use for various gathering sizes that can evolve over seasons and time. Durable materials and cost effective construction details and sequencing. Create a distinct place within the campus that: Maximizes the return of open space within the budget. Minimizes the general maintenance effort. E Conceptual Framework

Spatial Typologies and Relationships
Design Objectives Develop the horizontal and vertical proportions of the bands within the space to provide a variety of scaled sub-spaces. Allow the edges to adjust as the design review evolves with stakeholders. Use a kit-of-parts to define site features and construction elements. Use a simple planting palette to create large, textured plant zones that are scaled to compete with the building elevations. Set elevations to minimize fill over structure wherever possible. Provide a balance of access to sun and shade for various gathering types. Provide intuitive pathways to and from destinations rather than formally articulated routes. Refine the grading to accommodate the elevation changes at all 3 entries to meet the site stair using ADA guidelines and general equity. E Conceptual Framework
