PROJECT BACKGROUND Applicant: Anglo American Platinum Mogalakwena Mine Project Name Construction of a Bridge and Gravel Road Project Location Farm Zwartfontein 818 LR, Limpopo Province 7

PROJECT LOCALITY MAP 8

PROJECT DESCRIPTION LDV s and HDV s are currently using the same access road at Mogalakwena Mine (MPM). Due to mainly safety considerations, MPM is proposing a new LDV road that will be used separately from the current haul road. The proposed road will cross the Mohlosane River and therefore, MPM proposes to construct a bridge, which will cater for vehicles of a maximum of 8 tonnes, over the Mohlosane River. An existing overgrown track will be cleared and upgraded to a LDV gravel road and will be lengthened by approximately 3.35 kilometres. 9

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Activity applied for: Listing Notice 1: GNR 983 of 2014 Activity 19: The infilling or depositing of any material of more than 5 cubic metres into, or the dredging, excavation, removal or moving of soil, sand, shells, shell grit, pebbles or rock of more than 5 cubic metres from- (i) a watercourse; (ii) the seashore; or (iii) the littoral active zone, an estuary or a distance of 100 metres inland of the high-watermark of the sea or an estuary, whichever distance is the greater 10

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Activity applied for: Listing Notice 1: GNR 983 of 2014 Activity 56: The widening of a road by more than 6 metres, or the lengthening of a road by more than 1 kilometre- (i) where the existing reserve is wider than 13,5 meters; or (ii) where no reserve exists, where the existing road is wider than 8 metres; excluding where widening or lengthening occur inside urban areas. 11

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Activity applied for: Listing Notice 1: GNR 983 of 2014 Activity 12: The development of- (iii) bridges exceeding 100 square metres in size; (xii) infrastructure or structures with a physical footprint of 100 square metres or more; where such development occurs- (a) within a watercourse; (b) in front of a development setback; or (c) if no development setback exists, within 32 metres of a watercourse, measured from the edge of a watercourse; - 12

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Construction of the Bridge and Gravel Road will include the following: Construction of an LDV bridge over the Mohlosane river, that will include the excavation of the bedrock for the foundation; Armouring of the banks of the river; Upgrade of an existing overgrown track to a gravel road; Lengthening the gravel road to link it to the bridge; 13

PROJECT DESCRIPTION CONTINUED Bridge specifications are as follows: Type: LDV bridge. Surface area of the bridge location: 576.68 m2 Main bridge components: Abutment foundation and wall o Length: 25.425 m o Width: 1.062 m o Height: 8.625 m (including foundation of the bridge) Parapet o Length: 10.088 m o Width: 2.336 m o Height: 0.152 m 14

PROJECT DESCRIPTION CONTINUED Bridge deck o Length: 10.088 m o Width: 12 m Road specifications are as follows: Type: Earth / gravel road. Width: 15m Length: 3.35 Km 15

SITE PLAN 16

SUMMARY OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS The following High and Medium rated environmental impacts were identified (after mitigation): Noise generated by vehicles clearing/removing vegetation, during grading and sloping activities and during the construction of the bridge. Soil compaction as part of clearing activities at the gravel road as well as construction activities for the bridge. Construction activities impacting on the aquatic ecosystem within the river. 17

SUMMARY OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS Clearing of vegetation communities will result in a loss of habitat or fragmentation of habitat and may then alter the current dynamics of fauna assemblages. The use of the gravel road and bridge may result on animal mortalities. Visual impact due to the presence of the bridge and vehicles using the gravel road. 18
