STOP MOSQUITOES FROM BREEDING! Beautification Report Mosquitoes breed by laying eggs in and near standing water. As little as one teaspoon or bottle cap of water standing for more than one week is enough for mosquitoes to breed and multiply. AT YOUR HOUSE: Put away items that are outside and not being used because they could hold standing water. AROUND ALL BUILDINGS: At least once a week, empty, turn over or cover anything that could hold water: tires, trash, trash containers and recycling bins, car covers, roof gutters, coolers and or pet dishes. Repair all holes in your screens. IN YOUR GARDEN: Keep flower pots and saucers free of standing water. Some plants such as Bromeliads, hold water in their leaves. Flush out water- holding plants with your hose once a week. PROTECT YOURSELF: EPA approved mosquito repellent provides the best protection from being bitten by a mosquito. Grab yours today! But don t forget about our homeless who generally don t have this option. The UF/IFAS Extension office ( now located at 16110 Aviation loop Drive, Brooksville, next to the airport post office ) is teaming up with other agencies to better equip Hernando County s homeless population with mosquito protection. Help collect new, unopened containers of mosquito repellent to distribute by donating an extra container (or two) to the UF/IFAS Extension office ( located next to the airport post office) PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR COUNTY RESIDENTS FROM THE DANGERS OF MOSQUITO BITES! For more information on Zika visit the University of Florida mosquito information website. HAPPY GARDENING AND DON T FORGET TO PROTECT YOURSELF WITH THE INSECT REPELLENT! ACC Report So, do you think it will rain today? I am pretty sure that it has rained just about every day since Spring. And with the rain, we have had the problems brought about by it. Weeds galore, grass growing as fast as you cut it and mildewed sidewalks and driveways. I am glad to see that MOST people are dealing with the weeds and grass as best they can, and your neighbors are grateful. Sidewalks and Driveways are another story, however. I remind you that the Covenant requires that this chore be done on a yearly basis, but I am also concerned about the quality of the job. Please, if you endeavor to undertake this chore yourself, take the time to do it right. I have seen many sidewalks that look a bit like Zebras, with the stripes running in all sorts of directions. That being said, NOW is the time to accomplish this task as the temperatures begin to cool. Waiting until late Spring or Summer means that the mildew and mold will return quickly, while those who do this over the Winter months will find that their pavements stay clear for pretty much the entire Spring and Summer seasons. LAWNS Our Covenant calls for sodded, well maintained lawns here in ELE. In the past, I have been loath to press this issue because of the economic climate prevailing in this country. But, the time has come, and I have this past several weeks sent several letters to residents whose lawns do not even meet the minimal standards which make ELE such a great looking community. Hopefully, all recipients will comply and those few lawns not up to our standards will be replaced. HOUSES FOR SALE For one reason or another, a good many of our neighbors have elected to put their homes on the market. If you live near one of these neighbors, please do what you can to make your property attractive in order to help them sell. Prices are coming back and the best way that we can maintain this is to help our neighbor s sell their home. Be a good neighbor. Keep your property maintained.
