Page 4 of 7 Public Comment No. 3-NFPA 556-2014 [ Section No. 10.3.1 ] 10.3.1 The summary of test methods included in Table 10.1 is a starting point to assist in evaluating fire hazard. Nothing in the table is intended to prevent the use of other tests, methods, guidance, or tools. Delete the reference to ANSI/SAE Z-26.1 in the section of Table 10.1 and replace it with two references to sections 5.18 and 5.19 of that standard because they are the only ones that actually contain flammability tests. The test on section 5.18 is for materials that are less than 0.05 inches in thickness and the test on section 5.19 is for materials that are over 0.05 inches in thickness. They are both Bunsen burner flame spread rate tests. The "comment" should state "regulatory small scale test for flame spread rate of materials that are 1.27 mm or less in thickness" and "regulatory small scale test for flame spread rate of materials that are over 1.27 mm in thickness". Also replace the reference to Windshields and NFPA 257/ANSI UL 9 with one that states "Windshields - fire protection rating" and in the comment state "time-temperature curve of glazing, excluding hose stream test" - for consistency Also, in the line on plastic fuel tanks, in the comment, add the word "scale" between full and test.
