Buildings that instill community, learning and safety With over two million students enrolled in postsecondary institutions across Canada, universities and colleges are investments in our country s intellectual wealth driving innovation, prosperity and quality of life for all Canadians. They seek to equip graduates with skills competitive on the global stage, create collaborative communities that foster world-renowned research, bring an international dimension to the classroom, and foster the critical thinkers of tomorrow. Their success is dependent on how they continue to evolve with an increasingly competitive landscape, changing curriculums, new funding models, rapid advances in digital technology and also heightened expectations from students. WSP clearly understands these goals, and we seek to deliver well-designed buildings that are as inspirational and stimulating as they are functional, comfortable and safe. Shaped by a profound understanding of the educational requirements of each individual establishment, we draw on our local relationships and global expertise as we support post-secondary institutions and government bodies in meeting the challenges of increasing budgetary constraints, implementing cutting-edge technologies, the need for security and the responsibilities associated with ensuring a sustainable future. Why WSP A vast experience delivering on all aspects of the project WSP has provided building engineering services to over 100 Canadian universities and colleges. From the parking garage, the parks and landscapes, to specialized research laboratories and library facilities with natural lighting, to student accommodation, lecture and dining halls we deliver on all aspects of campus life. Award-winning designs from coast-to-coast Recognized by our peers for excellence in services such as lighting design, structural engineering and sustainability consulting on projects like University of British Columbia s Library, University of Waterloo s Lazaridis Quantum Nano Centre and Churchill Northern Studies, we are able to deliver expertise across Canada. Responsible custodians of a sustainable future Administration, as well as students and faculty members are all concerned about and increasingly aware of our social and environmental responsibilities. Our Sustainability & Energy team is able to deliver strategies to achieve aggressive energy performance targets. Ottawa s new Algonquin College Centre for Construction Excellence, for example, performs 65 per cent better than the Model National Energy Code of Canada. We also facilitate sustainability and energy projects for existing facilities by incorporating solar power arrays, recycled building materials and by improving natural lighting and ventilation. Protecting our past, reducing future risk As long-standing institutions, campuses across Canada are homes to beautiful and iconic buildings: both historic and modern. With integrated services of archaeologists, cultural landscape scientists and restoration experts, we are able to evaluate existing buildings and infrastructure, and expertly rehabilitate and incorporate them with new structures. As well, specialized property condition assessment teams help clients understand the building lifecycle to better manage aging assets and strategize operations and maintenance accordingly. 01
