AIR TO WATER HEAT PUMPS SPECSHEET I 01 The effects of the current energy crisis are placing serious pressure on the global economy. Non-renewable energy resources are depleting rapidly. Ai-TEC Heat Pumps. Hot water on tap at a fraction of the cost. Introducing our revolutionary new energy source for sanitary hot water that is gentle on the environment and provides substantial financial and energy savings. Ai-TEC s Air to Water Heat Pumps provide an energy efficient system that uses only one third of the electricity normally required of a standard resistance heater. This means that for approximately every 3 units of energy transferred to heat the water, only 1 unit of electrical energy is consumed. This is achieved by transferring heat from one source to another. Heat is collected by a reverse refrigeration process which heats the water via the pump. They can be adapted to fit any existing geyser, will operate in cold temperatures and require no electrical back-up. How does it work? Similar to an air conditioning unit, the heat pump is essentially a vapour compression cycle. However, instead of the cycle being used for air cooling purposes with the associated heat as a by-product, the heat pump utilises the heat generated in the cycle to heat water. In a typical heat pump cycle, shown in the diagram (right), heat is extracted from the heat source by the evaporator, which is at a low temperature. In it, the heat is transferred to a working fluid, changing it from liquid to gas. A compressor then increases the gas pressure, causing temperature to rise. The hot gas flows to the condenser, where heat is given off as the working fluid changes back from gas to liquid. The working fluid which is still at a high pressure is then passed through an expansion valve, which lowers the pressure. In doing so, the fluid becomes cold and returns to its liquid state before once again entering the evaporator. Energy required to heat water consumes a large portion of the energy load globally. Eskom are currently increasing their tariffs by 15-25% annually. The demand for alternative energy sources and technology is increasing. In South Africa, Eskom has conducted extensive on a variety of options to heat water and offer valuable rebates to encourage consumers to install these systems. AIR TO WATER HEAT PUMPS SPECSHEET I 03 The most effective energy saving solution under the sun. Ai-TEC s Air to Water Heat Pumps provide a superior alternative to competitive water heating systems for both commercial and residential markets. Based on the Joule-Kelvin effect, the science behind refrigerant systems, heat pump technology came into its own as a response to the energy crisis in the 1970s. It has since been developed and refined to the point where it is now widely used in Europe, tried and tested over 30 years in the rigours of the Nordic climate and represents a new era in the provision of heating and hot water globally. Ai-TEC s Air to Water Heat Pumps are engineered to our strict quality standards for safety and reliability which means we are able to offer extended warranties on all units. They are manufactured with ozone friendly refrigerants, are kind to the environment and reduce the excessive demands on Eskom. There are no hazardous gas emissions, no flammable oil, LPG or gas pipes, no unsightly fuel storage and no flues or chimneys. Plus there is no need for regular servicing or expensive annual safety checks. Eskom has proved that, in the commercial and industrial sectors, 32mW of energy can be saved by installing this revolutionary system. The heat pumps reduce the demand on Eskom, are kind to the environment and are manufactured with ozone friendly refrigerants. Air to Water Heat Pumps achieve 80% of the savings that are possible with comparable water heating systems at a much lower installation cost. This leads to a significantly improved payback period. Typical payback periods for domestic heat pump installations vary between 2.3-3.7 years for homes with 3 to 5 residents. The payback period for commercial installations however is less than 10 months. What s more, consumers automatically qualify for an Eskom rebate for all commercial and domestic installations. This amount varies according to individual requirements. HEAT PUMP TECHNOLOGY Fully operational in climates ranging from -10 C to 40 C. Do not require large footprint area for installation. Minimal payback periods. Ease of installation and maintenance. Require no electrical backup. HEAT PUMP APPLICATIONS Ai-TEC s Air to Water Heat Pumps are ideal for domestic, industrial, commercial and agricultural applications. They can provide remarkable energy efficiency and substantial financial savings for: Processing plants. Tanker services. Dye houses. Tunnel farming. Dairy farms and piggeries. Crocodile and fish farms. Swimming pools.
