DECEMBER 5, 2016 HOOSIER CHAPTER NEWSLETTER UPCOMING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: DHI-CSI Joint Meeting January 19, 2017 6pm-9pm at Willows at Westfield Please join us for the upcoming CSI and Hoosier Chapter DHI Meeting. Paul Baillargeon from the Door Security and Safety Foundation will be joining us as the speaker for the dinner meeting and will be presenting How Life Safety and Fire Codes Affect Security Devices. We will explore how the installation of security devices on fire and egress doors must be performed in compliance with IFC, IBC, ADA, and NFPA life safety and fire codes as well as applicable standards. The rush to provide a safe and secure environment often causes a provider to overlook the need for safe egress, fire-rated products, and compliance with ADA regulations. Come participate in a review of security devices improperly installed on fire and egress doors, causing life safety issues or invalid fire-rated doors on properties. Please go to the CSI website to sign up for this event. Please note the AHJ Awareness Presentation by Paul Baillargeon will precede the dinner meeting. http://indianapolis.csinet.org/ CSI members: FREE Non-members: $20. Students: $10. DECEMBER 5, 2016 DHI NEWS UPDATES Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has adopted NFPA 101 (2012) effective 7-4-16, which references NFPA 80 (2010), which means annual fire door inspections of Healthcare Facilities will now be enforced by both the CMS and the Joint Commission. This is good for FDAI s and our industry in general. The Door Security & Safety Foundation will be launching a public initiative against the use of temporary door locking or barricade devices in early December that will be geared toward School Officials. The mission of the Door Security and Safety Foundation (DSSF) is to promote safe and secure openings that enhance life safety. DSSF is dedicated to serving the public by advocating for safe openings through awareness, education and research. The DSSF is the nonprofit arm of DHI.
