1 Air Quality Light Indicator The Air Quality Light Indicator never goes up to yellow or red, how do I know if the sensor works? Your indoor air is probably clean with no pollutants in it. To verify, place a dry erase marker or another object emitting a strong smell such as a perfumed item or food close to the Power switch of your air purifier. The air quality sensor, located just below the Power switch, will detect the odor after a few seconds and trigger the yellow or red level of your Air Quality Light Indicator. If this experiment does not work, verify that the bag has been removed from around your filters and conduct the above experiment again. If this still does not work, the Air Quality Sensor of the unit is probably defective. Please call customer service. (Return product) The Air Quality Light Indicator is green, but there is still some dust flying around. Vacuum sensor area. Verify that bag has been removed from around the filters. Verify that your filters are not excessively dirty. The Air Quality Light Indicator is not green, but the air seems clean. It is possible that your Air Quality Sensor is clogged with some pieces of dust or air pollutants and must be cleaned. In order to do so, it is recommended to vacuum the grid located below the Power switch. It may be more efficient to remove the front panel of the unit first, and vacuum the grid then. CADR / Capacity / Efficiency What does CADR stand for? CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate. What is CADR? CADR is a measure of the appliance s ability to reduce smoke, dust, and pollen particles from the air. The higher the CADR rating of your air purifier, the more efficient your air purifier is at removing pollutants from the air. Do all air purifiers have a CADR rating? The CADR rating, tested and reported by AHAM (Association of Household Appliances Manufacturers), is a voluntary certification. It is possible to find Air Purifiers on the market without a CADR rating. But for such products without a CADR rating, the information related to their capacity to clean the air is not reliable. What is the CADR rating for the Fellowes Air Purifiers? AP-230PH: 150/161/156 (Smoke/Dust/Pollen) AP-300PH: 191/200/201 (Smoke/Dust/Pollen) Does my product work for pollutants other than Smoke, Dust and Pollen? Yes, your air purifier will remove up to 99.97% of any particles equal to or larger than 0.3 microns from the air going through the filters, while PlasmaTRUE Technology instantly neutralizes viruses and germs in the air. - Page 1 of 8 -

2 It says for a room 230sq.ft, can it clean a bigger room? Yes, your air purifier can clean a bigger room, it will just take more time for it to clean a bigger room than a room for which it is rated. Can my product remove smoke from a room? Yes, smoke particles are part of the pollutants that your air purifier will remove at 99.97% from the air going through the filter. Controls / Indicator Screen How do I go back to the Auto mode? Press the - key until Auto illuminates. Why are the + and - bubbles blinking on my indicator screen? Those are indicators that the PlasmaTRUE Technology is active and emitting charged particles that ensure the smallest pollutants in the air are being neutralized. How do I adjust the speed of the fan? If you want to adjust the fan manually (as opposed to letting it adjust automatically based on the quality of the air) you can press the + and - keys to increase or decrease the speed of the fan. What should I do if the lights on my screen keep blinking after 4 minutes? Wait for a few more minutes. If the lights do not stop blinking, call customer service for further assistance about the electronics or Air Quality Sensor of your product. (Return product) My product won t turn on. The lights of my product won t go on. Verify it is plugged in. Verify that the power outlet works by trying a different appliance. Verify that the front panel is in place and that the On-Off switch button actually presses on the On-Off switch located behind the front panel. If it still does not work, call customer service. (Return product) Energy Star What is Energy Star and what are the requirements for a product to be certified? Fellowes Air Purifiers have been tested and certified eco-friendly by Energy Star because they have been designed for a low power consumption and have a lower impact on the environment. In general, products carrying the Energy Star certification consume 20%-30% less energy than what is required by federal standards. Fellowes Air Purifiers consume less than a light bulb in normal conditions and can be left on 24/7. Filters What is a True HEPA filter? A True HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter is a filter that removes up to 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. - Page 2 of 8 -

3 What is a Carbon Filter? A Carbon filter is a pre-filter that captures the bigger particles to avoid clogging the True HEPA filter. The Carbon filter is designed to help remove VOC s (Volatile Organic Compounds) from the air. The Fellowes Carbon filters are also treated with Sanitize antimicrobial agent that prevents microbes and impurities from growing on the filters. Which one is the True HEPA filter? The True HEPA filter is the thicker white filter. Which one is the Carbon filter? The Carbon filter is the thinner black filter. How do I access the filters? Grab the bottom left and right side of the white and silver front panel of your air purifier and gently pull that front panel towards you. Lift it up to completely disengage it from its location and gain full access to the filters. How do I replace the filters? Once the front panel has been removed (see above), gently pull the filters towards you to get them out of their location. When installing or replacing filters, always place the True HEPA filter into the air purifier first, followed by the Carbon filter. How do I turn the replace filter light off? 1. Pull the front panel off of the unit (see above). 2. There is only (1) replace filter button for both the True HEPA and Carbon filters. Pressing the replace filter button for (1) second at a time allows you to toggle between the True HEPA filter and Carbon filter icons in order to choose which you d like to reset. 3. Press and hold the replace filter button for 3-5 seconds until you hear a beep. The replace filter light should shut off at the same time as the beep is heard. What should I do if my filters are really dirty? Do not try to clean or wash your filters as you would send all the pollutants they captured back into the air. Simply replace your filters with new ones and dispose the old and dirty filters. What should I do if my filters look clean, but my machine tells me to replace them? If your machine has been set up on Auto for several months and if your air has been perfectly clean, it is possible that the filter are still relatively clean when your replace filter light tells you to replace them. However, the filters are cleaning particles down to 0.3 microns that are not visible to the human eye, therefore even if the filter looks clean it might contain a fairly large amount of very small particles and pollutants on its surface What should I do if my replace filter light stays on after I replace the filters? Press and hold the replace filter button for 3-5 seconds until you hear a beep. The replace filter light should shut off at the same time the beep is heard. Try this operation several times. 4 Can I run my machine with only one of the filters? Your machine has been designed to accommodate (2) filters, one Fellowes True HEPA filter and one Fellowes Carbon filter. Using the machine with only one of those filters would dramatically reduce the efficiency of your air purifier and may result in abnormal air circulation noises, as the space left by the missing filter would allow part of your indoor air to circulate freely without being filtered. Where can I get replacement filters from? For replacement filters, go to How long do the filters last? Carbon filter: average 3 months (may vary depending on the cleanliness of your air) True HEPA filter: average 12 months (may vary depending on the cleanliness of your air) Can I clean or wash my filters? Do not try to clean or wash your filters as you would send all the pollutants they captured back into the air. What happens if I don t change my filters? Eventually, the filters will become clogged and the air flow going through the machine will be dramatically reduced, affecting the product s ability to properly clean the air. If there is no air flow through the product and there is an excessive amount of dirt, dust, and pollutants on the filters, the product will not be able to vacuum the pollutants and keep them on the filters. In this case, the pollutants may be released back into the air. Do I have to purchase Fellowes specific filters? Yes, it is essential to only use Fellowes filters, as other types of filters will not correctly fit into your product. Other types of filters will leave some air gaps in your product, through which dirty air will be able to pass without being filtered and cleaned. Using other types of filters will dramatically reduce the efficiency of your air purifier. What does the antimicrobial treatment do? It prevents microbes from growing inside your air purifier, where impurities, dust and pollutants are being captured. Which filter is the antimicrobial treatment on? It is on the Carbon filter, the first stage of the purification system that the dirty air will be in contact with. How does the machine know when it s time to change the filters? Fellowes Air Purifiers take into consideration the quality of the air they clean, as well as the period of time they are being used, in order to determine the amount of dirt and pollutants that have been captured on the filters. Once this amount has risen to a level where the efficiency of the product is about to start decreasing, the air purifier tells you it s time to replace the filters. 5 General Where can I find the owner s manual? The owner s manual is included in the product retail packaging with the product. If you have lost your owner s manual, you can find an electronic version of it at How can I clean my product? Use a cleaning cloth for the surface. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the Air Quality Sensor located just below the On-Off switch. Do not wash your filters. What should I do if there is smoke coming off the unit? Unplug the unit and return it. What should I do if the unit seems to produce odors? Verify that filters are clean. Verify that the air exiting the machine does not blow towards a source of smell/perfume, etc. Note: Your product will remove strong odors first such as smoke odors - and could let lighter smells (such as smells coming from cleaning product) temporarily linger. What should I do if my product won t turn on? Verify it is plugged in. Verify that the power outlet works by trying a different appliance. Verify that the front panel is in place and that On-Off switch button actually presses on the On-Off switch located behind the front panel. If it still does not work, call customer service. What is the volume of air around me that will be cleaned if I m in a cubicle? The total volume that your air purifier can cover corresponds to the square footage indicated on your product documentation (230sq.ft. for the AP-230PH and 300sq.ft. for the AP-300PH). If your cubicle has an open ceiling and an open entrance with no door, it means that the total surface area of your cubicle has to be smaller than the square footage capacity of your air purifier, in order to be the most efficient. If the area is larger the air purifier will still clean the air, but will take a longer time to do so - as the entire volume of air contained in the room will have to circulate through the product. How can I get clean air in an open cubicle? It is not likely that the clean air produced by your air purifier will stay in your cubicle if it has an open ceiling and an open entrance. It is also likely that the total surface area of your cubicle is larger than the square footage capacity of your air purifier. Based on this, a good way to breathe clean air is to direct the air exiting from the air purifier toward your face. Where is the best place to put my air purifier in a room? There are many acceptable places to put you air purifier, such as next to a desk, in the corner of a room, etc. The best places have 1-2 feet of free space around the product to allow for air circulation. It is NOT recommended to put your air purifier close to direct heat, a vent or a smell source (such as next to an air conditioner, a fireplace, a fan, etc.) The direct proximity of those could have an influence on the correct functioning of your unit s Air Quality Sensor. - Page 5 of 8 -

6 Where does the dirty air enter my air purifier? The air intakes are located on each side of the unit. Where does the purified air exit my air purifier? The air outtake is located on top of the unit, towards the back. Is it normal to see blue paint next to the fan vents behind my filters? Yes, this is glue used to lock the screws of the motor in place. This is normal and harmless. Noise What should I do if my air purifier makes noise? Verify that you removed the filter bags. Verify which fan speed the product is set on. Higher fan speeds make more noise. If you hear a rattling or squeaking noise, call customer service. (Return product) What should I do if my air purifier creates interferences with my radio/tv when I plug it in? It should not create interferences since the machine is FCC tested and certified. Verify that the interferences are not coming from another appliance or device. To do that, unplug the air purifier and verify if this stops the interferences. If it does, try to use your air purifier further away from the device on which you observe the interferences and on a different power outlet. Ozone Does my air purifier harm the Ozone layer? No, appliances that could harm the Ozone layer are cooling appliances, such as air conditioners and refrigerators that release Freon gas in the air. Fellowes Air Purifiers do not release any Freon gas in the air and do not harm the Ozone layer. Does my air purifier produce Ozone? No, Fellowes Air Purifiers have been tested per the related Federal Standards and comply with the regulation limiting the production of Ozone. PlasmaTRUE Technology What is PlasmaTRUE Technology? PlasmaTRUE Technology creates electrical discharges that neutralize the smallest and most harmful impurities and pollutants at the molecular level. How do I know if the PlasmaTRUE Technology is working? The + and - signs contained in the blinking bubbles on your Indicator Screen indicate that the PlasmaTRUE Technology is active. 7 Is PlasmaTRUE Technology harmful? No PlasmaTRUE Technology is safe and has been tested and validated per the latest regulation to show that it does not generate Ozone, as opposed to some competitors products Can I deactivate PlasmaTRUE? No, PlasmaTRUE is always on. What is the difference between an ionizer and PlasmaTRUE Technology? There is no difference between an ionizer and PlasmaTRUE Technology. Some ionizers produce Ozone that can be harmful to your health; however; PlasmaTRUE Technology has been tested and validated per the latest regulation to show that it does not generate Ozone. Safety What should I do if I dropped something into the back vents of my air purifier? Unplug the product. Turn it upside down. Shake it to try to make the foreign object fall out of the unit. Do not open the unit, as it will void the warranty. Is it safe to leave the machine On 24-7? Yes, it is designed to clean your indoor air 24-7 and it will not consume more than a light bulb in normal conditions of use. Should I plug my air purifier into a surge protector? It is a good idea to use a surge protector to protect any electrical appliance or device, but is not a requirement for Fellowes Air Purifiers to be plugged into a surge protector. Can I use my product in a wet area such as my bathroom or sauna? Using the machine in a wet area might damage your filter and create a hazard of electric shock if the power cord or any of the electrical components of your product get in contact with water. It is not recommended to use this product in a humid or wet area. Can I set up my air purifier against a wall? Yes, the air intakes are located on each side of the unit and the air outtake is located on top of the unit, therefore placing the product against the wall won t affect its function. In addition, the air purifier does not produce any heat or produce anything that could damage a wall surface. It is completely safe to place the product against a wall. Can I set up my air purifier on a wall? The product has not been designed to mount on walls. It is the responsibility of the user if he wants to try to do so. Warranty Where can I find the Serial Number of my air purifier? The Serial Number is located on the back of the unit, on the retail outer and on the master outer of the product.
