The focus for this project was on cooling capacity in a most efficient way, dependent of weather conditions or space use. The shopping gallery, which requires cooling year round is cooled with 3 high efficiency free-cooling chillers. Whereas office spaces are served by 6 energy efficient chillers and 1 with free-cooling for server room purposes. Total cooling capacity is over 10 MW. The heat demand for the headquarters' factory building, with an 8 metre high hall, and office space was met using three independent Daikin inverter heat pump systems supplied as split units, each with a 75 kw maximum heat output. Intelligent control sensors provide multizone heating with a control panel that enables settings to be programmed to meet individual requirements. The expected saving in running costs, based on 2,000 hours of heating on a standard electricity tariff, was shown to be 40% when compared with an oil heater. Its Belgian centre opted for replacement of their chiller equipment. The decision was motivated both by an internal CoPE energy efficiency project and by the phase out of recycled R-22 refrigerant as of Precise temperatures in both the supply of cold water and cold air were crucial in this project. 22 Food processing & storage STEF Warehouses Need Comfort cooling/heating Process cooling/heating Control Heating Ventilation Project STEF is a logistics company that specialises in the transport and storage of food products (frozen, fresh and fast food). Given the importance of climate controlled facilities, which are at the core of STEF s business for the operation of its refrigerated warehouses, the company has its own, in-house, engineering design office, with a staff of approximately 35 full-time employees. The Daikin units operate mostly during off-peak hours, hours per day. They are totally shut down the rest of the time. Daikin won the project for multiple reasons: - Frequency variation - valued because it provides cost savings in energy use (intensities can be controlled at start-up). - Commercially available parts which are thus easily and quickly obtained in case of failures - Nicely finished equipment - attractive, high-quality materials. - Components are insulated in housings, in order to reduce operation sound levels.
