1 Annual Preventive Maintenance WARNING: Risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons during cleaning and user-maintenance! Disconnect the appliance from the power supply before servicing. WARNING: Before servicing or cleaning unit, switch power off at service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device (such as a tag) to the service panel. WARNING: When service or replacement of a component in the fan requires the removal or disconnection of a safety device, the safety device is to be reinstalled or remounted as previously installed. PowerfoilPlus, Powerfoil, and Wickerbill Fans 1. Check for the presence of the safety cable and shackle. The cable should be wrapped around the I-beam/angle irons leaving as little slack as possible. The shackle should be securely tightened and located on the topside of the I-beam/angle irons. 2. Ensure all mounting bolts (4x for direct mount installations and 12x for installations with extension tube) are present and torqued to 98 ft lbf (133 N m). 3. Inspect motor terminations inside junction box and tighten if necessary. 4. Check gear reducer for oil leakage. If leakage is present, contact Customer Service at BIG-FANS. 5. Ensure all bolts (20x) securing airfoils to fan are present and torqued to 29 ft lbf (39 N m). 6. Ensure airfoils are secured to one another by airfoil retainers (10x). 7. Ensure bolts securing winglets to airfoils are securely tightened. 8. Ensure hub safety clips (6x) are present and torqued to 35 ft lbf (47 N m). The bolts securing the safety clips to the hub are located on the faceplate underneath the fan. Check all connections in the fan controller and tighten as needed. Using a vacuum, remove all dust and debris from the inside and outside of the controller. Verify proper fan rotation. The fan should be turning counter-clockwise when viewed from the floor. Dust airfoils, motor, and motor housing. If desired, use a gentle cleaner or degreasing agent to polish the foils. Do not use Clorox or other chlorine based cleaners! This could result in the release of toxic/fatal fumes. WARNING: Do not operate a fan with missing or damaged components. 2 Powerfoil X 1. Check for the presence of the safety cable and shackle. The cable should be wrapped around the I-beam/angle irons, leaving as little slack as possible. The shackle should be securely tightened and located on the topside of the I-beam/angle irons. 2. Ensure all mounting bolts (12x) are present and torqued to 98 ft lb f (133 N m). 3. The shackle should be securely tightened and located on the topside of the mounting structure. 2. Ensure all mounting bolts (8x) are present and torqued to 98 ft lbf (133 N m). 3. Ensure bolt securing lower safety cable to drop tube is present and torqued to 98 ft lbf (133 N m). 4. Ensure airfoils are secured to one another by airfoil retainers. 5. Ensure all bolts (20x) securing airfoils to fan are present and torqued to 29 ft lbf (39 N m). 6. Ensure all bolts securing winglets to airfoils are securely tightened. To be effective, the fan must be turning counterclockwise when viewed from the floor. To change the direction of the fan s rotation, see instructions on previous page. Dust airfoils, motor, and dome. If desired, use a gentle cleaner or degreasing agent to polish the foils. Do not use Clorox or other chlorine based cleaners! This could result in the release of toxic/fatal fumes. 4 Isis 1. Ensure all mounting bolts (4x) are present and torqued to 49 ft lb f (66 N m). 2. Ensure airfoils are secured to one another by airfoil retainers. 3. Ensure all bolts (20x) securing airfoils to fan are present and torqued to 29 ft lb f (39 N m). 4. Ensure all nuts (3x) securing the lower mount to the motor are tight. To be effective, the fan must be turning counter-clockwise when viewed from the floor (see p. 7 for more information). Dust airfoils and motor. If desired, use a gentle cleaner or degreasing agent to polish the foils. Do not use Clorox or other chlorine based cleaners! This could result in the release of toxic/fatal fumes. Do not use cleansers on the electronics enclosure. Check safety cable and upper mounting system. WARNING: Do not operate a fan with missing or damaged components. 5 Pivot 1. Ensure safety cable is present and securely tightened. The cable should be tightly wrapped around the mounting structure leaving as little slack as possible. The shackle should be located on the topside of the mounting structure. The shackle s screw pin should be securely tightened. 2. Ensure all mounting bolts (16x or 12x depending on installation setup) are present and torqued to 98 ft lbf (133 N m). 3. Inspect motor terminations inside junction box and tighten if necessary. 4. Check gear reducer for oil leakage. If leakage is present, contact Customer Service at BIG-FANS. 5. Ensure all airfoils are secured to hub by hub retainers. 6. Ensure all airfoils are secured to one another by airfoil retainers. 7. Ensure all bolts (18x) securing airfoils to fan are present and torqued to 29 ft lbf (47 N m). 8. 6 Inspect Safety Cable(s) (step 1) Check for the presence of a safety cable securing the fan s extension tube to the mounting structure. The cable should be tightly wrapped around the mounting structure leaving as little slack as possible. Upper Safety Cable (Shackle) Upper Safety Cable (U-Bolts) or Some fan models will also have a lower safety cable securing the fan s motor frame to the extension tube. Lower Safety Cable (older models only) The ends of the safety cable(s) will either be fastened with a shackle or U-bolts: Shackle The shackle should be located on the topside of the mounting structure. The shackle s screw pin should be securely tightened. U-Bolts The U-bolts should be located on the topside of the mounting structure. There should be 2 U-bolts for each end of cable (4 total). The turnback end of the cable should be resting against the U-bolt as shown. U-bolts should be spaced 5 (12.7 cm) apart and torqued to 15 ft lb f (20 N m). 5 (12.7 cm) 5 (12.7 cm) Turnback Turnback

7 Inspect Hub Retainers (step 5) Ensure all hub retainers (4x or 6x depending on fan model) are present and torqued to 29 ft lb f (39 N m). The bolts (8x or 12x depending on fan model) securing the hub retainers are located on underneath the fan. (view from above fan) (view from under fan) Inspect Airfoil Retainers (step 6) Ensure all airfoils are secured to one another by airfoil retainers (10x). Depending on fan model, airfoil retainers may have 3 holes or 2 holes. All airfoil retainers should be torqued to 29 ft lb f (39 N m). 3 Hole Retainers 2 Hole Retainers Verify Proper Fan Rotation Verify proper fan rotation. To be effective the fan must be turning counter-clockwise when viewed from the floor. If the fan is not rotating in the proper direction, adjust the 3 position switch button on the fan controller. or direction control (view from under fan) If the fan controller does not have a 3 position switch or direction control button, please contact Customer Service at BIG-FANS.
