1 PRISM/CONCORD/LEPRECHAUN/ORION WINTERIZING 1) Drain both the black and gray tanks at an appropriate facility. 2) Drain the entire fresh water system follow steps 3, 4, & 6. Remove the water heater drain plug shown in Figure 1. Water will drain out of the water heater; you should flush the appliance following the instructions in the water heater owner s manual. Reinstall plug. Fig. 1 3) Set the Water Heater Bypass to Winterize mode. Using the position of the water heater on the exterior as a reference point, find the corresponding location inside your motor home (usually under the kitchen base, refrigerator, or stove). (NOTE: you will need to remove a panel or drawer to access these valves.) Set the water heater bypass valve system (Figure 2) to bypass mode by reversing all three valve positions (picture shows bypass mode ). Fig. 2
2 4) Locate the low point valves. There will be a sticker (could be inside or outside Fig. 3) and remove the access panel or port. Open the valves (Fig. 4a or b) to allow the water to drain to the ground. If the handles are plastic T handles, they pull up to open, push down to close; if the valves are tear-drop shaped on a metal body, they turn 90 degrees to open/close. Fig. 3 Fig. 4a Fig. 4b or 5) Close the low point drains when the fresh water tank and the interior water lines have finished draining. 6) Locate the fresh water tank. Turn the tank shut off (bypass) valve (in Fig. 5 shown by the arrow) to the closed position. Locations by model are indicated at end of instructions. Tank fitting Fig. 5
3 7) Go outside and locate the water control panel (as illustrated in Fig. 6). Fig. 6 8) Open the door and turn the blue handle to the WINTERIZE position shown on the door label. Fig. 7
4 9) Attach the garden hose section to the Black colored water hose connection at the bottom right as shown in Figure 8 (use of a shorter hose will be beneficial). Put the end of the hose without a fitting into a container of RV anti-freeze (pink in color). Turn on the water pump with the red switch in the water panel. Fig. 8 10) Turn on the cold side of the water faucet furthest away from the pump. This could be either the vanity faucet or the kitchen faucet, contingent upon the model of your motor home. Wait at the faucet for the RV anti-freeze (pink in color) to begin running out of the faucet. Turn the faucet off. Repeat for the hot side of the faucet. Periodically, check the level of RV anti-freeze in your container. Change to a new bottle if it is getting low. 11) Proceed to all of the other water faucets and flush the toilet until you see pink in the toilet. (Note: Do not forget to follow the same process for an external shower and/or camp kitchen faucet if your motor home is equipped with them). Turn the water pump off at the outside water control panel. Also, pour 1/2 gallon of RV antifreeze into the toilet to winterize the black holding tank. Open and close the toilet blade valve quickly to lubricate the blade seal and also open & close the Black Water tank termination valve quickly to let anti-freeze coat the termination valve seal. 12) Pour some of RV anti-freeze down the drains in the kitchen sink and vanity sink (also the camp kitchen if your motor home is equipped with the feature some camp kitchen models have a cold water shut-off) to aid in protecting the valves and p-traps associated with those outlets. Pour the remainder of RV anti-freeze in the shower drain to winterize the gray holding tank. Open and close the Gray Water tank termination valve quickly to let the RV anti-freeze coat the termination valve seal. Your motor home is now winterized. Remove the hose attachment from the water panel. To de-winterize, flush the system by placing the water control valve to the City position and turn on fresh water supply. Open all faucets and low point drains until there is no trace of pink left in the system and sanitize using the following directions: Sanitize by pouring ½ cup of chlorine bleach (unscented) into your potable water hose before connecting to the city water fill on your water panel (it has a white fitting). Fill the fresh water tank completely. Turn off the fresh water source, return the water heater bypass valves back to normal mode (opposite of the way they are shown in figure 4). At the monitor panel, turn on the water pump to allow the chlorinated water solution to run throughout the system. Allow the solution water sit in the pipes for a minimum of 3 hours. Drain and flush the fresh water system completely. If the chlorine taste lingers, repeat the sanitizing steps except use a quart of white vinegar instead of chlorine. The motor home should be sanitized at least twice a year (based on fresh water source and usage of the motor home).
