6 1.0 Installation Instructions 1.1 Unpacking All items should be checked against the packing list. Notify the supplier should there be any missing or damaged parts. When an electrical motor is supplied on the unit, as in the remote radiator, the electrical characteristics should also be checked against order specifications. 1.2 Handling and Moving To facilitate ease of handling and moving, each unit has lifting eyes located on both ends of the side members. If there is restriction on vertical lifting, the radiator is structurally strong to be lifted using a fork-lift truck at its bottom. Care is needed to prevent damage to the face of the core, fan motor or casing during handling. 1.3 Location It is important to ensure that there is free airflow stream to and from the radiator to prevent recirculation of the dissipated hot air from the radiator back into the intake stream. Precaution should be taken to ensure that radiator is located no closer than one fan diameter from a wall, another radiator, or any other obstructions which would restrict air movement. The air must not be above the maximum design ambient temperature. The radiator shall be sited away from exhaust stacks and other sources of hot gas. 7 1.4 Coolant Use fill clean water either neutral or slightly alkaline with a PH of 8. Water should be treated with reliable corrosion inhibitor. If anti-freeze is used, the compatibility of inhibitor an anti-freeze must be ensured. 1.5 Fan position Radiators should be installed with fan position as shown in the sketches below. 1.6 Piping Piping connections to the radiator should be externally supported, not hung on the radiator. 8 1.7 Terminal Control Connection A motor s rated voltage must agree with the power supply line-to-line voltage. Care must therefore be taken to ensure the correct connection to the motor terminals. 9 1.7.2 For fan casing motor connection The following showed a typical connection in a terminal box. Motor connected for Direct on Line (DOL) starting with bridges in place for star connection (3.0 kw and below). 10 2.0 Operation Instructions 2.1 Before Operation Check List Before putting the radiator into service, the following items must be checked: s/n Itinerary Set Mounted Radiator 1 Ensure that the cooling fan position is X according to Chevon s recommendation. Remote Radiator 2 Check that all mounting bolts are tightened. X X 3 Ensure that the fan is free to rotate. X X 4 Check v-belt (if any) alignment and X X tensioning. 5 Ensure that there is no foreign material in the X X air stream. 6 Ensure that the electrical connections are secure and the power supply is according to the motor name plate. X 7 Fill the radiator with coolant and check the connections for leaks. (See section 2.3) 2.2 Cooling system Checks Make sure all drain cocks in the cooling system are installed and are closed tightly Entrapped air must be purged after filling the cooling system. 11 2.3 In-process Operation Check List The following outline the list: s/n Itinerary Set Mounted Radiator 1 Start-up cooling system, operation shall not exceed maximum pressure of 0.1MPa and the maximum temperature of 212 F (100 C). 2 During the radiator is in operation, check for: X (a) Fan clearance (b) Excessive vibration (c) Excessive noise (d) Leaks 3 Air Stream Check X Remote Radiator X X X Ensure that the air stream of the radiator and cooler (if equipped) are unblocked and free of debris. If any problem arises, shut off the operation immediately. If everything is normal, shut down operation after ten minutes and re-check belts (if any), bolts and nuts tightness to make sure they have not been loosened through usage. Continue further operation for 8-12 hours and checked the electric motor amperage drawn when necessary. Page 8 of 12

12 3.0 Maintenance Instructions Essential components of the cooling system should be checked periodically to keep the engine operating at peak efficiency. 3.1 Cooling Core Periodic cleaning of the core is necessary to maintain optimum performance. Clean with compressed air if cooling core has become clogged with leaves, paper, ash or other airborne particles. If oil is involved, use steam at low pressure. (Note: do not use water jets). 3.2 Electric Motor Electric motor bearings are pre-lubricated and should be lubricated periodically in accordance to the motor manufacturer recommendation of mineral oil, Libase grease (Multitemp SRL). 3.3 Hoses / Clamps Cooling system hoses should be inspected. Any hoses that show obvious signs of damage or feels abnormally soft or hard should be replaced. Damaged clamps should also be replaced. All external leaks should be corrected as soon as detected. 3.4 Fan Maintenance of fans includes visual inspection for cracked or bent blades. Check at the root of the blade and in the spider fillets for cracks. These are the areas of highest dynamic stress. Damaged fans should be replaced. Fans are precision-balanced and repairs or straightening in the field should not be made. Replacement fans should be sized the same as the original equipment taking into account the diameter, projected width and number of blades. 3.5 Fan Casing / Shroud Shrouds should be checked periodically for the proper clearance around the fan, for air leaks, cracks and deterioration. 3.6 How to drain and flush the cooling system Page 9 of 12

13 Caution: To avoid injury from the expulsion of hot coolant, never remove the cooling system pressure cap while the engine is at operating temperature. Remove the cap slowly to relieve pressure. Wear adequate protective clothing (face shield or safety goggles, rubber gloves, apron and boots) With the engine cool, drain the previous solution from the engine and radiator. Dispose of the coolant in an environmentally friendly manner, according to the state and/or federal recommendations Refill the cooling system with clean, soft water and a good cooling system cleaning compound that is recommended by the engine manufacturer. If the engine is warm, fill slowly to prevent the rapid cooling and distortion of the metal castings Start the engine and operate it for fifteen minutes to circulate the solution thoroughly. For the case of the remote radiator couple to pump, run the latter for fifteen minutes to circulate the solution thoroughly Stop the engine and allow it to cool With the engine cool, drain the cooling system completely Refill the cooling system with clean, soft water and operate it for fifteen minutes. For the case of the remote radiator couple to pump, run the latter for fifteen minutes to circulate the solution thoroughly Stop the engine and allow it to cool With the engine cool, drain the cleaner residue from the cooling system Refill the system with the required coolant Entrapped air must be purged after filling the cooling system. To do this, allow the engine to warm up without the pressure cap installed. With the transmission in neutral, increase the engine speed above 1000 RPM and add coolant as required. Install the pressure cap after the coolant level has stabilized according to the required level. 4.0 Notice: if the engine overheats and the coolant level is satisfactory, the cooling system may require cleaning with a de-scaling solvent and back flushing. 14 Preventive Maintenance Instructions 4.1 Cooling System coolant level There must be coolant in the cooling system at appropriate level for optimum engine operation. Caution: To avoid injury from the expulsion of hot coolant, never remove the cooling system pressure cap while the engine is at operating temperature. Remove the cap slowly to relive pressure. Wear adequate protective clothing (face shield or safety goggles, rubber gloves, apron, and boots). Check the coolant level daily and maintain it near the bottom of the filler neck on the radiator. On some installations this is done by checking an overflow bottle or sight glass. Add coolant as required, but do not overfill. Make a daily visual check for cooling system leaks. Look for an accumulation of coolant when the engine is running and when it is stopped. Coolant leaks may be more apparent on the engine when it is cold. 4.2 Cooling System coolers / radiators Periodically inspect the coolers or radiators for buildup of dirt, mud, etc. and wash off. Check the ductwork and flexible connections for leaks and have repaired or replaced, as required. The exterior of the radiator core should be inspected every 48,000km, 12 months, or 300 hours (industrial application) and cleaned, if necessary. Caution: To avoid injury from flying debris when using compressed air for cleaning the external surface, wear adequate eye protection (face shield or safety goggles) and do not exceed 2.76 bar air pressure. It may be necessary to clean the radiator more frequently if the engine is being operated in extremely dusty or dirty areas. Page 11 of 12

15 If the low coolant level sensor is installed in the top tank of the radiator, it should be tested for proper operation every 160,000km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Engage authorized distributor / tester to perform this task. === End of Text === Page 12 of 12
