Paul Flowers: When we talk about Enjoy Water we re defining an experience and how the delivery of water can change and enhance that experience. We are incredibly fortunate that nature has given us so many examples from which we can take inspiration, from waterfalls to rain. PF: The set parameters of the home as we know it today are slowly dissolving, making room for hybrid spaces. Bathrooms are no longer purely functional spaces for cleaning and grooming they have become wellbeing centres. People enjoy the personal time they spend in the bathroom and expect products which will enhance that experience. DS: We have a responsibility to society to enhance people s lives and to design products that satisfy their expectations. Our products must be simple to operate, reliable and durable, yet they must also provide exciting experiences for the user. Installing a new bathroom is an investment. How do you ensure that the design of a new product is still relevant in ten years time? PF: We work with trend forecasters to identify long-term societal trends. This ensures that our designs are relevant today but they will also be relevant in the future. This, combined with our constant search to understand and explore human behaviour and desires, helps to ensure the longevity of our designs. DS: Our products are designed to withstand years of stress and exposure. GROHE SilkMove technology uses the finest ceramic discs in the industry ensuring a lifetime of maintenancefree operation, while our dazzling GROHE StarLight finish is soil repellent and resists scratches and tarnishing guaranteeing good-as-new looks for years to come. How will GROHE satisfy the consumer s desire for a product that is environmentally friendly and economically efficient? PF: The obvious way is to reduce the negative impact our designs have on the planet. The other way is to design products with which consumers form relationships; this encourages them to keep products for longer and use them more efficiently. DS: GROHE is a responsible company. GROHE SilkMove GROHE SilkMove cartridges offer superior technologies which deliver a smooth easy action to ensure a lifetime of maintenance free comfort and reliability. HP High Pressure Products marked with HP are designed to operate with pressurised systems, which include mains supply combination boilers, unvented hot water systems or by pumping a gravity system. A minimum operating pressure of 1 bar is recommended. GROHE StarLight GROHE StarLight ensures radiant long-life shine due to the GROHE chronium finish that produces an absolute immaculate surface resistant to soil and tarnishing. LP Low Pressure Products marked with HP/LP are designed for both gravity systems and pressurised systems. Minimum operating pressure 0.1 bar is recommended which is a clear 1 metre vertical distance from the base of the cold-water tank to the water outlet. GROHE TurboStat GROHE TurboStat is a super fast and super accurate temperature control, which guarantees convenience, comfort and total safety for the user. GROHE DreamSpray GROHE DreamSpray technology is at the heart of all our showers. These advanced shower engines feature multiple single parts to efficiently distribute an equal flow of water to every single nozzle. Approvals. Our dual flush plates let you decide how much water you use to flush the toilet. Press the large button and flush with entire water volume. Or press the Eco button and flush with a reduced three-litre volume.

5 Luxury Bathroom and Kitchen Fittings page 8 Easy guide to choosing the correct shower Combination Boiler This is a mains fed pressurised system that instantaneously heats the mains cold water. This requires no cold or hot water storage tanks. Pumped Systems This is a gravity system with the addition of a booster pump to increase flow to particular taps, commonly used in the shower. The larger the pump the greater the flow rate. Pressurised/Unvented Systems This is a less common installation where the hot water is stored under mains pressure. This requires no cold-water storage in the loft and its performance is dependant on the mains supply pressure. For optimum performance all mixers should be supplied with balanced pressures. Gravity Fed System Historically, the most common installation in the UK and is identified by the use of a cold storage tank normally in the loft space. Some taps may have gravity fed hot and mains cold, which is common in the kitchen mixer. Monobloc basin mixers are available in two styles: one-hand mixer where water flow and temperature are operated together by one lever; and dual lever hot and cold water are controlled independently. Three-hole basin mixer This set-up comprises two faucets and a central spout and is sometimes known as a two-hand centro set. They can be either deckor wall-mounted. Pillar faucets These tend to be associated with traditional-style faucets. The hot and cold water don t meet until they reach the basin. Bath/shower mixer Hot and cold water are mixed in one single unit, a diverter valve allows the water to be used for both the bath and the shower. They can be either deck- or wall-mounted or concealed. Bath fillers and spouts The faucets work in conjunction with a spout they do not need to be located next to each other. On the main control, intuitive dials for flow rate and temperature are supplemented by easy-to-read backlit digital displays. The flow rate is fully adjustable, while the temperature can be increased or decreased in increments of 0.5ºC. Main control The main control unit allows you to select the temperature, flow rate and to program the three personalised user buttons. Until recently, when its current owner, architect Karl Amendt, revealed the iconic status of the building. Atrio basin mixer Atrio basin mixer In a building of the highest technological and architectural quality such as the McLaren Technology Centre, designed by Foster and Partners, you would rightfully expect excellent design in every detail. This is why the Atrio fittings line from GROHE was the first choice for the McLaren Technology Centre. With their clear, purist Bauhausinspired form, Atrio fittings, which share the same technological development as those fittings installed at McLaren, are the epitome of classical two-handle fitting. Reduced to the essential, its design and simple elegance are the ideal basis for modern bathroom architecture. The carrier system for washbasins and WCs used throughout the McLaren Technology Centre is the GROHE Rapid installation system. This system is suitable for virtually all installation and room types. Built in the 1930s, Haus Heusgen was designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the Huesgen family of textile industrialists. Following the death of the industrialist s son, Amendt purchased the house and decided to give it a complete overhaul, before opening it to the public. To me, it was very important to renovate Haus Heusgen in the sense of Mies van der Rohe. We were able to recondition a lot of the original items; however, I had to replace the bathroom fittings, explains Amendt. The Atrio two-handle mixer from GROHE fits in perfectly.
