For example, a different drying speed is needed for each substrate. Precise calculations are therefore essential from the outset, but this requires a sound knowledge of fluid mechanics, the individual materials permeation and diffusion characteristics, and the solvents used in the drying process. It is also necessary to have an excellent understanding of the end products and how they are used. In addition to this know-how, experts must have a wealth of experience from designing numerous units and testing them in practice in actual systems. An uniform extraction of the process air across the entire working width is ensured by the principle of central extraction. The PAGENDARM SPEEDSTAR dryer benefits from separate air circulation for the top and bottom nozzle fields. Its compact design and optimized air guidance ensure stable web transport, a uniform drying profile and reduced energy consumption. Moreover, substrate compliant web tensions result in low shrinkage values. When drying coatings containing solvents, this technology also ensures the LEL is not exceeded anywhere in the dryer. This design requires no additional installation space. The regulated AC drives-controlled motors are located on the dryer substructure. Stretch-resistant flat belts ensure the support rolls operate smoothly for optimum web transport, even with the thinnest of materials. The roller bearings integrated in the cold part of the support struts and thus cooled by the surrounding air also contribute to this. They require no additional lubrication at any point in their service life. Easy maintenance of all load-bearings points is possible from the outside. The support rolls made of hard chromeplated steel are suitable for drying air temperatures of up to 300 C. Mounts for a parallel cover lifting device are attached to the top of the support struts. Optional swivel covers are also available. The heat-insulated dryer covers can be used for both internal and external air supply. The nozzles are fitted individually in the dryer cover in such a way that they are easy to remove. The air moves back up between the nozzles. The channel elements have fixed connection pieces for both return and fresh air conduits. Correct nozzle selection is vital to achieve a particular coating result. The various nozzle configurations have been adapted to the relevant requirements for all types of coatings during decades of development work with the industry. The nozzles support different air speeds, temperature profiles and web transport properties. This enables the appropriate end results and product qualities to be achieved.. VACUTEX nozzle configuration The patented PAGENDARM VACUTEX nozzle system is a perfect combination of support roll and floatation nozzle. Especially with substrates that have a tendency to curl, the Venturi effect of the VACUTEX nozzle creates a negative pressure around the integrated roll. The resultant wrapping effect guides the web optimally through the dryer. Air flow around the rolls results in completely uniform roll temperatures, while contact between rolls and the web enables excellent heat transfer. This means that heat transfer from both top and bottom is possible. The system is particularly suitable for materials which tend to curl and require low tensions. Whether gas, thermal oil, steam or electricity, we have the ideal heating method for any application. The method is selected based on the application and taking into account the drying requirements and cost/energy efficiency. Every application has its own specific requirements and needs a coordinated drying system to obtain the best possible result. In addition to the appropriate drying system, nozzle configuration and type of heating, it is therefore vital to select the ideal control system. This simplifies the drying process and optimizes adjustability. In line with customer requirements, //polytype uses standard UV systems that can be equipped with a variety of radiation sources. Depending on the requirements of the different lacquers or adhesives, units that are inertized or operated under normal conditions are integrated in the //polytype machines. Especially with 100% systems (UV/EBC), the coating systems are subject to particularly high demands. With its standardized coating heads, //polytype offers a sophisticated, reliable system for such coating tasks. At the //polytype Technology Center, coating tests with UV curable materials can be carried out under realistic conditions. If required, it is also possible to create inertized substrate environments and to use different types of lamps. Partial cross-linking and UV curing following combinations with thermal drying are also available. Electron beam (EB) curing enables cross-linking of highly filled liquids colored coatings. The electron beam works with all materials and coating media, irrespective of substrate. Extremely high coating speeds can be achieved with excellent surface hardnesses and qualities. Since the coating compounds do not require photoinitiators for the cross-linking reaction, these coatings are largely odorless. Such coating tests can also be performed at the //polytype Technology Center under realtime conditions at production speeds of up to 1500 m/min.
