2 WARNING Do not use this safety equipment in a location that does not match its hazardous location rating. Verify the appropriate ratings prior to installation. When making electrical connections be sure to follow all lockout tagout safety procedures. The water storage tank must be drained before lifting or moving the skid. CAUTION This unit is to be used with potable water as defined by ANSI Z NOTICE It is recommended that all water supply and electrical connections be made at temperatures above freezing (32 F (0 C)). Failure to do so may result in major product and/or property damage. Constant power supply to safety equipment is necessary for it to function and to keep water tepid. Avoid cleaners containing organic solvents, alcohols and hydrocarbons. Rinse with potable water after cleaning. IMPORTANT Read this installation manual completely to ensure proper installation, then file it with the owner or maintenance department. Compliance and conformity to drain requirements and other local codes and ordinances is the responsibility of the installer. Separate parts from packaging and make sure all parts are accounted for before discarding any packaging material. If any parts are missing, do not begin installation until you obtain the missing parts. and maintenance of this system must be completed by a qualified plumber and electrician according to the information contained in this installation manual and in compliance with all national and local codes. Bradley's Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower requires the use of water preservative. Water preservative may be purchased from various distributors, please contact your local distributor. Due to the changing regulatory environment, Bradley is unable to recommend a source for water preservative. Perform functional test upon relocation of safety equipment. This safety equipment should be visually inspected weekly and tested monthly to address any maintenance issues ensuring the equipment is in good operating condition and that there are no signs of wear. The inspection and testing results of this equipment should be recorded weekly to verify proper operation. NOTICE! Product should never be stacked. NOTICE! Product should be transported with the care associated to packages labeled "FRAGILE" even if packaging is not marked accordingly. NOTICE! When stored, crate must be supported in entirety of its length and width. Transporting the Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower Unless otherwise requested, Bradley Self-Contained Indoor Safety Showers are transported within the continental United States and Canada via commercial truck. Empty storage tank before transporting the self-contained indoor safety shower. Each shower will be accompanied by document packaging that includes the installation instructions. Store safety enclosure documents for reference. Check the load ratings on equipment intended to be used to transport the enclosure. NOTICE! Use caution when transporting, and always use proper lifting techniques. Weight distribution is unbalanced and the product is susceptible to tipping which will result in damage to the product. NOTICE! Engage the Skid Safety Enclosure from the lift points only. NOTICE! Check load ratings on equipment intended to be used to transport the enclosure. Standard safety procedures for forklift transport of larger than 2000 pounds should be followed at all times. Locate the lifting point marked on skid safety shower. During transit, transport close to the ground. Use all standard safety measures and precautions prior to and during transit. If immediate destination of the unit is storage, refer to the Storage and Preservation Guide. 6 Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower Preconstruction Guide Thank you for your business. The purpose of Bradley s Skid Safety Shower preconstruction guide is to provide important preinstallation information to the customer that has determined their product specification needs are met by a Skid Safety Shower configuration. For system details refer to Bradley s Specific Product Technical Data Sheets. If additional information is still required contact the Bradley Corporation Technical Service Department. Technical Documents Available: Product Technical Data Sheets Storage and Preservation Guide Instructions Recommended Equipment, Materials and Supplies to be provided by Installer: (10) 1/2" diameter steel screws, grade 5 or 8 required Properly rated lifting equipment Electrical Supply Materials - 208V or 240V, single phase 60 Hz, 30 Amp-2 pole breaker required. Full load Amps: 25 Amps Plumbing Supply Materials - bladder/storage waste tank or an adequate drainage system Pre-installation Instructions All practices are based on local codes and standards. Local codes and standards apply to all steps in the installation instructions. Contact the authority having jurisdiction over local codes and ordinances regarding the disposal of waste water prior to installation. Minimum electrical requirements based on the unit: Input power: 208V or 240V-1-PH-60Hz, Amp-2 pole breaker Full Load Amps: 25A (Required) Confirm that the installation area is a level plane. Verify load rating of intended handling equipment can support a load in excess of 6000 pounds. Check the load ratings on equipment intended to be used to transport the Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower. Make allowances to ensure the enclosure is grounded prior to connecting power to the Skid Safety Shower. Emergency eyewash fixtures and drench showers must be visually inspected on a weekly basis to ensure they are ready for use. Storage and Preservation Guide Keep Bradley Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower stored in original packaging until installation. Recommended Storage Criteria Empty storage tank before moving or storing. Store Bradley Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower where temperatures are above 35 F (5 C) at all times. Indoor storage is recommended. Alternate Storage If in the original crate, Bradley Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower will withstand outside storage for approximately one month in most climates. If the Bradley Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower is stored in an outdoor environment without installation in a trailer, care should be taken to protect the it from rain or other falling precipitation via tarp or other waterproof material or runoff and accumulation of ground water from any source that may exceed 3". 6 7/18/2017 Bradley Rev. 7 1 Mounting Skid A B Remove Self-Contained Indoor Safety Shower from shipping crate and position it using the fork tubes provided in a location capable of supporting a 6000 pound load. Attach the shower skid to final mounting location using (10) ½" steel screws that are grade 5 or better (screws provided by installer). 4" (102) Before fastening skid, verify that the shower drain, anti-freeze valve and water storage tank drains are located above the provided drain basin. 7" (178) 80-9/16" (2046) 51" (1295) 98" (2489) 69-9/16" (1766) 102" (2591) 51-5/16" (1303) 50" (1270) 48" (1219) 68" (1727) 2 Fork Tubes and Cover Plate A Remove 1 screw at the open end of each rectangular forklift tube and pull each forklift tube out of the shower compartment. C Remove (2) screws from the fork cover plate. Remove (2) screws from lower corners of back wall (not currently being used). Fork Cover Plate B Reinstall the 2 screws removed in Step A back into the skid. D Flip the plate end-for-end and reinstall with bottom edge near shower floor. 8 3 Upper Wall Supports A Remove (2) screws, washers and nuts from unused holes at the top of each side wall. B Rotate the upper wall support to the vertical position. C Using the screws, washers and nuts removed in Step A, fasten the wall supports to the side walls. Screws should be inserted from the inside, outward. 8 7/18/2017 Bradley Rev. B; ECN

9 4 Electrical Connections WARNING To prevent personal injury and electrical system failure, DO NOT connect or energize electrical power prior to priming the water in the system. WARNING To prevent personal injury, component damage or electrical system failure, DO NOT energize the pump until the water storage tank is filled with at least 100 gallons of water. WARNING To prevent personal injury and damage to the components, make sure the electrical disconnect is in the OFF position. WARNING To prevent personal injury and damage to components, surge protection is recommended. WARNING Arc flash and shock hazard! Appropriate PPR and tools required when working on this equipment. CAUTION Install system according to national and local electrical codes. Follow all lockout/tagout procedures when performing any wiring to the system. CAUTION To prevent damage to electronics or internal wiring, do not perform any brazing or sweat soldering inside the enclosure box. CAUTION OSHA-NEC regulations require that the area in front of the electrical panel be kept clear for 36 inches. NOTICE! System is not freeze protected without an energized electrical connection. It is recommended that installation be completed when ambient temperature is above freezing. A Wire MELTRIC receptacle to power source per supplier instructions and wiring diagrams included. 10 5 Pouring Required Seals (Class I, Division 2 Only) In units that are designed for hazardous locations, conduit seal fittings may be identified by numbered tags. A De-energize and lock out the electrical system. B Add an approved sealant to all conduit seal fittings per manufacturer's instructions and local codes and standards. The numbered tags may be removed after all fittings are sealed. C Re-energize system and put into service. 6 Shower Assembly Conduit Seal A Remove shower from tank side of rear wall. Remove all packaging material. Sensor face must be between.06" and.1" from handle 1.975" ±0.06" (50mm ±1.5mm) If the sensor assembly is dislodged or moved, it must be repositioned to be about.060" from the valve handle and perpendicular to the handle. B Loosely The shower pipe should be below the upper wall support and perpendicular to the rear wall. mount the shower to the union at the top of the rear wall. Take care not to hang the pipe assembly on the flexible conduit or to dislodge the sensor assembly on the pipe. C Attach the shower pipe to the upper wall support using the same pipe clamp that held the shower to the rear wall during shipping. 11 7 Drain Connection A Connect 3" drain piping and run to proper drainage system. 8 Valves Left/Right is determined when looking into the open shower compartment. A At the tank outlet (lower left side) open the ball valve so that the handle is parallel to the pipe axis. B Verify that the tank drain's PVC valve (lower right side of the tank) is closed. The handle will be vertical when in the closed position. Bradley Rev. B; ECN /18/

12 9 Filling Water Storage Tank A Verify that the tank outlet valve is open and tank drain valve is closed. Reference previous sections for valve locations. B Fill water storage tank half way (approximately 250 gallons) with potable water through opening at top of storage tank. C D To activate system, plug in the decontactor as shown and rotate 30 degrees clockwise. When the plug and receptacle are latched together, the circuit is connected. The system will automatically perform a selftest for about 15 seconds, then the booster pump will start. Continue to fill water storage tank until indicator light on control panel changes from "Water Level Low" to "Water Level OK." Take care not to overfill water storage tank. E Add water preservative (not included) to the water storage tank. Follow preservative manufacturer's instructions for the proper use of water preservative. S19366-GA The booster pump will cycle for approximately 10 minutes or until the water temperature change is less than 3 F difference between start and finish of a cycle. This 10 minute booster pump cycle will take place every hour until water temperature reaches at least 61 F. S19366-D2 12 7/18/2017 Bradley Rev. B; ECN

13 10 Testing the Shower and Eyewash System Horn and red light will activate when opening the eye/face wash and drench shower. To silence the horn, press the horn silencer button once. To turn off the red light, press the horn silence button twice. The system may require a period of 12 to 48 hours to heat the water to be within a tepid range, depending on the initial temperature of the customer-supplied water. A B Activate the eye/face wash by pushing the handle forward momentarily. Verify that the pump starts and water comes out of the eye/face wash. Pull the handle up to close the valve and turn the eye/face wash off. Pull down on the drench shower handle to open the ball valve. The pump will turn on and the shower will operate. Push up on the handle to close the valve and turn off the shower. 11 Disconnecting the Decontactor This step only needs to be performed should the user wish to deactivate the system. A Press the pawl to cause the MELTRIC receptacle to eject the plug. This breaks the circuit. The plug is ejected to its rest position; its contacts are not dead. B Rotate the "dead" plug 30 degrees counter-clockwise to close the safety shutter and free the plug to be withdrawn from the receptacle. Bradley Rev. B; ECN /18/

14 System Flush Checklist Drain is attached and operational. S19366 Self Contained Indoor Safety Shower Indoor safety shower is mounted to a surface that can withstand a 6000 pound load. At the tank outlet (lower left side), open the ball valve so that the handle is parallel to the pipe axis. Verify that the tank drain's PVC valve (lower right side of tank) is closed with the handle in the vertical position. Water is clear and free of any contamination, particles or discoloration. Water immersion heater and all pumps shut off automatically when tank is empty. Close all emergency fixture valves. Add preservative. Bradley Drench Shower and Eyewash Activation Checklist The alarm and strobe have been activated. The alarm silences and the strobe continues to flash when the horn silence button is depressed. All system fittings have been checked for water leaks. The water temperature should be at a minimum of 70 F. (35 C) after the approximately 48 hours initial set-up or recovery period. The water temperature at the drench shower and eyewash is tepid (per ANSI Z358.1) The proper spray pattern is maintained for the drench shower and eyewash for the duration of the test. The correct drain disposal rate is being maintained (no pooling of water above grate level). Remote Signal Option the signal is functional at the remote sensing location. The green "water level ok" light turns off and the red "water level low" light turns on. Visual Inspection Checklist All emergency fixtures are deactivated (drench shower, eyewash) The strobe is deactivated and the system is reset when the horn silence button is depressed for the second time (control panel). All water flow must be off to deactivate the strobe and reset the system. Remote Signal Option remote sensing location signal is off. Water Tank Temperature OK (green indicator) on the control panel is lit. (Water temperature is greater than 60 F but less than 100 F. Other Enclosure System Checks verify the following: The certification and serial number labels are present. 15 Weekly Visual Inspection Checklist Survey the facility to ensure that the appropriate flushing system is installed per the ANSI Z358.1 requirement. Material Safety Data sheets can help determine what flushing system is appropriate for your hazards. Visually inspect the power source is connected, and the power is available to the safety shower's control panel. Visually inspect lights on the control panel. Connection of the horn, red light, green light and power connection are made properly. Green water level OK light is on (this ensures there is enough water for a 15 minute shower). If red water level low light is on, the unit requires additional water. Green water temperature OK light is on. Green area light is off. If light is blinking, this indicates a low pressure condition. Visually inspect all eyewashes, drench showers and drench hose systems to ensure they are compliant and operational in case of an emergency. Replace any broken or missing parts immediately. Remove any obstructions or trip hazards. Ensure the system is on the same plane as the hazard. Document inspection on the unit s inspection tag and in any centrally-controlled documentation log. Preservatives should be added to every tank of water. Water should be changed per preservative manufacturer's recommendation. Bradley Rev. B; ECN /18/

16 Troubleshooting Should damage occur to the self contained indoor safety shower, it is recommended to contact the factory for repair instructions. Cleaning should be conducted using rinse down water, DO NOT USE STEAM TO CLEAN. WARNING Only qualified personnel should perform troubleshooting. Regularly clean any debris out of the existing Y-strainers. Problem Cause Solution Water Level Low alarm indicator on control panel is lit (red). Water Temperature alarm indicator on control panel is lit (red). Low pressure alarm indicator on the control panel is lit (red). Green area light blinking. Low water flow at drench shower and eyewash. Storage tank water level is too low to supply a full 15 minute shower. Water temperature is less than 60 F (15 C) Water temperature is greater than 100 F (38 C) Water tank RTD is faulty because actual water temperature is between 60 F and 100 F. Strainer is plugged. Water pressure reset not closed inputs are closed. Water tank RTD measurement is greater than 100 F (38 C). Storage tank water level is too low to supply a full 15 minute shower. Low pressure relay is engaged. Insufficient pressure. Debris in system Increase volume of water until water level indicator light turns green on the control panel. Allow initial tank of water to sit for 24 hours for temperature to rise to greater than 60 F (15 C). Verify that the immersion heater has power. Replace if necessary. Cool air temperature allowing water temperature to decrease below 100 F (38 C). Add ice to the water tank or exchange hot water with cooler water until water temperature reaches less than 100 F (38 C) Replace faulty RTD. Remove strainer cap and clean strainer screen. Press the water pressure reset closing switch. Cool air temperature to decrease the water temperature to below 100 F (38 C). Add ice to the water tank or exchange hot water with cooler water until water temperature reaches less than 100 F (38 C). Add water to the storage tank until the water level OK indicator (green) is lit. Push water pressure reset button. Replace pressure switch. Replace pump. Check incoming voltage, booster pump and strainer. Disassemble the shower head, clean and reassemble. Unscrew the eyewash heads from the yoke, clean and reassemble. 17 Troubleshooting Problem Cause Solution Freeze-protection valve is flowing water Pump continues to run and not turn off, alarm is activated and will not reset.
