2 ABOUT THE PRO3 OZONE GENERATOR PRODUCT INFORMATION The PRO3 Ozone Generator is a high output corona discharge ozone generator that eliminates odours from ventilation systems before they are exhausted outside. The PRO3 Ozone Generator can also be used for water sterilisation prior to use in hydroponics systems. INDUCT ODOUR CONTROL The PRO3 Ozone Generator is not fitted inside the duct; it is an external generator that injects high concentrations of ozone directly into the duct via an integral pump and delivery tube. Ozone production and the lifespan of the corona discharge cells that produce ozone are negatively affected by moisture and airborne contaminates. Humid and dirty air inside the ducting is damaging to corona discharge cells, shortening their life span and their ability to produce ozone. This is a major problem with ozone generators where the cells are located inside the duct because they are constantly exposed to these poor conditions. In fact, a unit with ozone production rated at 1800mg per hour when installed inside the ducting where humidity is typically over 60% will produce less than 1/3rd of its rated output of ozone. Because the PRO3 Ozone Generator can be positioned where air is dryer and cleaner, and the ozone injected where it s needed, ozone production is consistently higher making the PRO3 Ozone Generator much more effective at removing odours than induct versions with the same rated output. The corona discharge cells will be more reliable and last much longer because they are not in contact with damp, dirty air. 3 INSTALLATION INSTALLATION HOW TO INSTALL THE PRO3 OZONE GENERATOR The PRO3 Ozone Generator is easy to install. Ideally the generator should be placed outside of the room and the ozone piped to the injection point. This allows the generator to be located in a good environment. The PVC pipe should be connected to the Ozone Outlet as marked on the generator. The plastic clip (supplied in the parts pack) should be used to secure the pipe to the outlet. More pipe can be purchased from your retailer if required. If the generator is to be used inside the working room, it is recommended that the air is piped to the generator from outside the room where the air is drier. The pipe should be attached to the Air Intake connection as marked on the generator. The plastic clip (supplied in the parts pack) should be used to secure the pipe to the inlet. Connecting to the Bulkhead Drill an 8mm hole into a ridged duct fitting and insert the bulkhead supplied with the unit. Make sure the pipe on the bulkhead reaches the centre of the ducting. Insert the duct fitting into the ducting allowing as much distance between the injection point and the ventilation exit as possible. Position the generator in a convenient location that gives you easy access to the unit and then attach the pipe to the bulkhead. Ideally the ozone is injected into the duct on the suction side of the fan as this allows the fan to evenly distribute the ozone down the duct. An even distribution and longer contact time will make the system more effective at removing odours. If you require fitting to a flexible duct, again make an 8mm hole. Use the two grommets (supplied in the parts bag) to help seal the fitting. As shown below. It is recommended that the generator and the pipe should be positioned higher than the inlet. This will avoid any moisture / liquid build up in the pipe. This liquid can be a dilute acid so care should be taken if this is present in the pipe. 5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHAT IS OZONE? Ozone is a naturally occurring substance that is sometimes called activated oxygen. It contains three atoms of oxygen (O3) instead of the usual two found in normal oxygen (O2) that is essential for life. High in the atmosphere the ozone layer is created by the action of the harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun on the oxygen atoms. At ground level the unmistakable fresh smell in the air following a thunderstorm is ozone created by the effect of the lightning discharge on the oxygen atoms. Ozone is also created naturally as a result of photochemical reactions due to the pollutants such as NOX and SOX that are found in the atmospheres of cities and industrial areas. Ozone can also be created artificially by generating a high voltage electrical corona across a dielectric to form what is known as a silent discharge. Ozone is the second most powerful oxidant known and the naturally occurring level not only protects all life from the harmful effects of solar ultraviolet radiation but also is very effective at destroying bacteria, viruses and odours. Artificially generated ozone is just as effective as naturally occurring ozone providing the correct amount is produced. HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD I USE THE PRO3 OZONE GENERATOR? The PRO3 Ozone Generator should be used continually when the ventilation system is active and switched off when inactive. HOW DOES OZONE ELIMINATE SMELLS? Ozone is a very powerful oxidant because the gas molecule O3 is unstable allowing it to readily decay into O2 thereby releasing a single oxygen atom that is highly reactive. The oxidation process breaks down organic compounds including fats and oils. When it comes into contact with a bacteria or a virus the oxygen reacts with the cell membrane. Initially the ozone attacks the glycoproteins, glycolipids and certain amino acids such as tryptophan in the bacterial membrane. It also acts upon the sulfhydral groups and some enzymes resulting in the disruption of normal cellular activity. Bacterial death is rapid and is often attributed to changes in the cell permeability followed by cell lysis. If the ozone comes into contact with a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) or an odour, the free oxygen atom reacts with the VOC oxidising it into a harmless or non odorous substances that are predominantly CO2 and H2O. As each of these reactions occur, the amount of ozone present continuously reduces until all the ozone has decayed back to the original normal bi-atomic oxygen making it a safe and environmentally friendly with no harmful residues. As the ozone molecule is unstable even if none of these reactions occur, the ozone (O3) rapidly reverts back to oxygen (O2). As a result of this natural decay back to oxygen the use of an ozone generator in a room does not.

6 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AIR STERILISATION The PRO3 Ozone Generator produces very high concentrations of ozone and should not be used inside the room for the purposes of odour control unless injected inside the duct as described, although they can be used as a shock treatment to sterilise air inside a growing area. If you intend to release ozone into the room for air sterilisation purposes it is important that you attach the PVC pipe to the Air In connection and position the pipe outside of the room being treated OR locate the generator outside of the room and pipe the ozone in. Failure to do this will result in ozone being drawn into the generator which will damage the unit and void the warranty. HEALTH AND SAFETY Always disconnect from the mains before removing cover. When disconnecting the ozone outlet pipe be wary of any condensation as this will be dilute Nitric Acid. Positioning the generator above the pipe work will reduce this. Ensure airflow pipes are not obstructed. Only use this unit for the purpose directed. Avoid direct inhalation of the ozone from outlet pipe. Avoid splashing water onto electrical appliances. Never use this product outdoors. Never use this product if there is any sign of damage to the unit or its components. With these instructions is a COSHH data sheet for ozone. Ozone is an irritant and symptoms of exposure are sore eyes and an itchy throat. Please refer to the COSHH sheet for Health and Safety. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WATER PURIFICATION Ozone is particularly effective for water sterilisation prior to use in hydroponics. Simply attach an air-stone or air-diffuser to the PVC pipe and allow 1g of ozone per 100ltrs of water per hour before using the water in the system. WARRANTY The manufacturer of this product provides the original purchaser with a 12 month limited warranty from the original date of purchase covering the working components. The manufacturer at his sole discretion will repair or replace the faulty components at an authorised repair centre. The warranty will only be considered as valid providing the following criteria are met: The product must be returned to the original retailer by the original purchaser alongside the original proof of purchase. The unit has not been modified or tampered with in any way. The product has not been damaged by inappropriate maintenance or misuse. The manufacturer shall not be held responsible for any damage caused by the operation of the unit, be it incidental or consequential or any type including, without limitation, damage or injury caused to other products or machinery or buildings.
