4 RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION The purpose of safety symbols is to indicate possible dangers. The safety symbols and their explanations require careful attention and understanding. Safety warnings do not eliminate any danger by themselves. The instructions or warnings that they convey are not a substitute for proper accident prevention measures. RREAD ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE OPERATING THE BLOWER / VAC NOTE: SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL: Indicates danger, warning, or caution. Attention is required in order to avoid serious personal injury. May be used in conjunction with other symbols or diagrams. Advises the operator of information or instructions that are vital to the safe operation and maintenance of the tool. WARNING: Follow the safety rules when using the Blower/Vac. Read these instructions carefully before operating the Blower/Vac in order to ensure the safety of the operator and others. Keep this Owner's Manual in a safe place for future reference. Read the instructions carefully. Become familiar with the controls and the proper use of this Blower/Vac. Do not operate this Blower/Vac when tired, ill, or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication. Do not allow children under the age of 5 to use the Blower/Vac unless supervised by a trained adult. Before each use, thoroughly inspect the Blower/Vac for loose or damaged parts. Do not use the Blower/Vac until any necessary adjustments or repairs have been made. All guards and safety attachments must be installed properly before operating the Blower/Vac. Inspect the work area before starting the Blower/Vac. Remove all debris and hard or sharp objects such as glass, wire, etc. Use the Blower/Vac only in daylight or with adequate artificial light. Keep all bystanders, especially children and pets, at least 50 (5 m) away from the Blower/Vac when it is in use. Carefully read and understand the entire Owner's Manual before using this Blower/Vac. Read the operating instructions and safety warnings carefully. The following signal words and meanings are intended to explain the levels of risk associated with this product. SYMBOL SIGNAL MEANING DANGER: Failure to obey a safety warning will result in serious injury to the operator or to others. Always follow safety precautions in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. This tool is double-insulated, which means that a 2-pronged extension cord (an extension cord without a ground) may be used. A 3-pronged extension cord (an extension cord with a ground) that uses a NEMA type connector (parallel blade, U ground) is recommended. Use only round-jacketed extension cords that are approved for outdoor use. This tool is double-insulated. Repair or replace a damaged cord immediately. In order to reduce the risk of electric shock, this Blower/Vac has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will only fit into a polarized outlet one way. If the plug does not fit into the outlet properly, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, use a cord that has the correct type of plug. Do not modify the Blower/Vac in any way. 4

5 RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION WARNING: In order to reduce the risk of electric shock, use only cords of type SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-W, or SJTOW-A. * MINIMUM WIRE SIZE FOR EXTENSION CORDS 20 V APPLIANCES USING 0-2 AMPS Cord length 25 (7.6 m) 50 (5.2 m) 00 (30.4 m) 50 (45.7 m) Minimum Wire size (AWG) The use of 50 (45.7 m) extension cords is not recommended. EXTENSION CORDS: Verify that the extension cord is in good condition, and that it is heavy enough to carry the current that the Blower/Vac will draw. An undersized extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage, which will result in a loss of power and overheating. The table gives the correct size to use according to the length of the extension cord and the amperage rating on the tool's nameplate. When in doubt, use the next heavier size gauge. The smaller the gauge, the heavier the cord. In order to prevent the cord from disconnecting from the Blower/Vac, use the cord hook as described in the Operating Instructions. The circuit(s) or outlet(s) that will be used with this Blower/Vac should be equipped with Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection. Receptacles with built-in GFCI protection should be used as an added safety mea-sure. A nameplate on the Blower/Vac indicates the voltage used. Do not connect the blower to an AC power supply that differs from this voltage. Inspect all extension cords and the Blower/Vac's power cord on a regular basis. Look closely for deterioration, cuts, or cracks in the insulation. Inspect the connections for damage. Repair or replace the extension cord or the power cored if any defects are found. Avoid dangerous environments. Do not operate the Blower/Vac in damp or wet conditions. Moisture is a shock hazard. Do not use the Blower/Vac in the rain. Do not handle the plug or the Blower/Vac with wet hands. WHILE OPERATING Wear safety glasses or goggles that meet ANSI Z standards. Wear ear/hearing protection when operating this Blower/Vac. Wear a face mask or a dust mask when operating the Blower/Vac in a dusty environment. Wearing long sleeves is recommended. Wear heavy, long pants, boots, and gloves. Do not wear loose clothing, jewellery, short pants, or sandals, and do not go barefoot. Tie back loose hair. Avoid accidental start-ups. Do not carry a Blower/Vac that is plugged in with a finger on the trigger switch. Verify that the switch is in the OFF position when plugging in the Blower/Vac. If the motor is running, do not set the Blower/Vac down on any surface except a clean, hard area. Debris such as gravel, sand, dust, grass, etc., could be picked up by the air intake and thrown out through the discharge opening, which could damage the Blower/Vac or property, or cause serious injury to bystanders or the operator. Use the right tool for the job to be done. Use this Blower/Vac only for its intended purpose. Do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and balance. Do not operate from an unstable surface such as a ladder, a tree, a slope, or a rooftop. Do not abuse the power cord. Do not pull or carry the Blower/Vac by the cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces, oil, and sharp edges. Do not unplug the Blower/Vac by pulling on the cord. To unplug the Blower/Vac, grasp the plug, not the cord. Stay alert, and use common sense. In order to prevent injury to the operator and to others, do not operate this Blower/Vac when fatigued. Do not operate the Blower/Vac while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Do not leave the Blower/Vac plugged in when it is not in use, while changing attachments, or when it is being serviced. Do not put any object into any of the openings. Do not use this Blower/Vac if any of the air openings are blocked. Keep the air openings free of dirt, debris, and anything that may reduce the air flow. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts. When servicing this blower, only use replacement parts that are identical to those that are listed in this manual. Call the Toll-Free Helpline ( ) for infor-mation. The use of unauthorized parts, accessories, or attachments may lead to serious injury or damage to the product, and will void the warranty. 5

6 RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION Do not force the Blower/Vac. It will do the job better and with less likelihood of injury when it is used at the rate that it was designed to work at. Do not use the Blower/Vac without the Blower/Vac tube and snap-on bag attached. Turn off all controls before unplugging the Blower/Vac. Unplug the Blower/Vac before attempting to install or remove the Blower/Vac tube or vacuum bag. Verify that the blades of the impeller are stopped. Avoid any contact with rotating blades. WHEN USING THE TOOL AS A BLOWER Do not point the Blower/Vac in the direction of people or pets, or in the direction of windows. Use extra caution when blowing debris near solid objects such as trees, automobiles, and walls. WHEN USING THE TOOL AS A VACUUM Avoid situations that could cause the snap-on bag to catch fire. Do not operate the Blower/Vac near an open flame. Do not vacuum warm ashes from a fireplace, barbecue pit, brush pile, etc. Do not vacuum discarded cigars or cigarettes unless the cinders are completely cool. This Blower/Vac is designed to pick up dry material such as leaves, grass, small twigs, and bits of paper. Do notattempt to vacuum wet debris and/or standing water. Doing so may result in damage to the the Blower/Vac. In order to avoid severe damage to the impeller, do not vacuum metal, broken glass, etc. OTHER SAFETY WARNINGS Be sure to secure the the Blower/Vac while transporting. Store the the Blower/Vac in a high, dry, locked area, out of the reach of children, in order to prevent unauthor-ized use or damage. Do not douse or squirt the the Blower /Vac with water or any other liquid. Keep the handles dry, clean, and free of debris. Clean the the Blower/Vac after each use. See the Cleaning and Storage instructions. Keep this Owner's Manual in a safe place for future reference. Refer to these instructions often, and use them to instruct other users. Read the Owner's Manual carefully in order to understand the safety rules, the assembly, operating, and maintenance instructions, and the repair information. WEAR EYE AND HEARING PROTECTION WARNING: Thrown objects and loud noise can cause severe eye injury and hearing loss. Wear eye protection that meets ANSI Z standards, along with ear protection, when operating this Blower/Vac. Use a full face shield when necessary. THROWN OBJECTS AND THE ROTATING BLADE CAN CAUSE SEVERE INJURY WARNING: Keep clear of the blower outlet. Do not point the Blower/Vac in the direction of the operator or others. Objects can be thrown from the blower. Do not operate the Blower/Vac without proper attachments and guards in place. DO NOT USE THIS TOOL IN THE RAIN WARNING: Avoid dangerous environments. Do not operate the Blower/Vac in the rain, or in damp or wet conditions. Moisture is a shock hazard. 9 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS ATTACHING AND REMOVING THE BLOWER/VAC TUBE Attaching the Blower/Vac tube NOTE: The blower/vacuum tube comes disassembled from the Blower/Vac. It must be installed in order to ensure safe and easy operation WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, the Blower/Vac tube and the vacuum bag must be used when operating this Blower/Vac. WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, verify that the power switch is in the OFF position, that the Blower/Vac is unplugged, and that the impellers have stopped before attaching or removing the tubes. Remove the screws and nuts that are pre-installed on the Blower/Vac housing (Fig. ). Insert the Blower/Vac tube all the way into the opening on the motor housing, until the holes in the tabs on the Blower/Vac tube align with the screw holes in the housing (Fig. ). Insert the 2 M 5x20 screws into the right side of the motor housing, and insert the 2 nuts into the left side of the motor housing (Fig. ). Tighten the screws securely. Do not overtighten. 10 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Removing the Blower/Vac tube NOTE: It may be necessary to remove the Blower/Vac tube in order to clear a blocked tube or impeller WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, verify that the power switch is in the OFF position, that the Blower/Vac is unplugged, and position, that the Blower/Vac is unplugged, and that the impellers have stopped before attaching or removing the tubes. Remove the 2 screws and nuts that are holding the Blower/Vac tube onto the housing (Fig. 2). Remove the Blower/Vac tube from the motor housing. 11 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS ATTACHING AND REMOVING THE SNAP-ON BAG Attaching the Snap-on Bag. 2. Attach the vacuum bag to the snap-on bag hook on the Blower/Vac tube (Fig. 3). Slide the snap-on bag tube over the debris exhaust tube on the housing. Push the tube until the latching tabs on both sides click into place, securing the bag to the Blower/Vac (Fig. 4). 12 ATTACHING AND REMOVING THE SNAP-ON BAG ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Removing the Snap-on Bag. Press the latching tabs on both sides of the bag tube, and pull the bag down away from the Blower/Vac (Fig. 5). 2. Detach the vacuum bag from the vacuum bag hook. 13 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLING THE LEAF COLLECTION KIT. Slide the hose tube over the debris exhaust tube on the housing (Fig. 6). 2. Push the tube until the latching tabs on both sides click into place (Fig. 7). 3. Insert the nozzle 0 (25.4 cm) into the bag opening-pinch and fold excess paper around the hose (Fig. 8). 4. Pinch to open the metal bag fastening clamp and slip the clamp 3 (7.62 cm) over the paper bag, securing the bag to the hose (Fig. 9). 14 INSTALLING THE SHOULDER HARNESS ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS. Push the strap through the centre of the buckle. 2. Pull the strap over the crossbar and down through the slot in the buckle (Fig. 0). 3. Snap the clip onto the support fitting (Fig. ). 4. While standing in the operating position, adjust the length of the strap to fit the size of the operator. 15 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS CONNECTING THE POWER CORD Use a minimum 25 (7.6 m.) long 6 gauge outdoor electrical cord when operating this Blower/Vac. See the table below for information concerning extension cords. This Blower/Vac's plug will only fit into a polarized extension cord one way. If the plug does not fit into the extension cord properly, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, use the correct type of polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord must be used with a polarized wall outlet. The plug will only fit into a polarized wall outlet one way. If the plug does not fit into the outlet properly, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper type of outlet. Do not alter the plug on the Blower/Vac, the receptacle on the extension cord, or the plug on the extension cord in any way.. Loop the extension cord as shown (Fig. 3). 2. Feed the loop through the cable hodler as shown (Fig. 4). 3. Pull the loop in the extension cord over the securing hook as shown, and pull it tight (Fig. 5). 4. 16 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS STARTING/STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS This Blower/Vac is equipped with a three-way power switch (OFF/LOW/HIGH) (Fig. 7): Slide the switch to the (0) position in order to turn the Blower/Vac OFF. Slide the switch to the () position for LOW speed. Slide the switch to the (2) position for HIGH speed. Once the Blower/Vac is plugged in, stand in the operating position (Fig. 8). Slide the power/speed switch to the LOW or HIGH position in order to start the Blower/Vac. To stop the Blower/Vac, slide the switch to the OFF position (Fig. 7) Fig. 7 Fig. 8 6

17 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS HOLDING THE BLOWER/VAC Stand in the operating position before turning the Blower/Vac on. Verify the following: The operator is wearing proper clothing, including boots, safety glasses or goggles, ear/hearing protection, gloves, long pants, and long sleeves. If the conditions are dusty, the operator is wearing a dust mask or face mask. The Blower/Vac is in good working condition. The Blower/Vac tubes and bag are installed properly and securely. The snap-on bag is installed and zipped closed (when used as a vacuum). WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, wear goggles or safety glasses at all times when operating this Blower/Vac. Wear a face mask or a dust mask in dusty locations WARNING: In order to prevent serious personal injury or damage to the product, verify that the blower tubes or vacuum tubes and the vacuum bag are in position before using the Blower/Vac. OPERATING TIPS Verify that the Blower/Vac is not directed at any person or at any loose debris before turning it on. Verify that the Blower/Vac is in good working condition. Verify that all tubes and guards are in position and secure. Always hold the Blower/Vac with both hands when it is in use. Keep a firm grip on both the front and rear handles or grips. In order to reduce the risk of hearing loss associated with excessive sound level(s), hearing protection is required. Use the shoulder strap when vacuuming. Operate power equipment only at reasonable hours do not use this Blower/Vac early in the morning or late at night, when people might be disturbed. Comply with local by-laws. Usual recommendations are between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Monday - Thursday, or between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday - Sunday In order to reduce noise levels, limit the number of pieces of equipment that are used at a time. In order to reduce noise levels, operate this electric Blower/Vac at the lowest possible speed that will do the job. Use rakes and brooms to loosen debris before blowing. Dampen surfaces slightly when using the Blower/Vac in dusty conditions. Conserve water by using a Blower/Vac instead of a hose for many lawn and garden applications, including areas such as gutters, screens, patios, grills, porches, and gardens. Be aware of children, pets, open windows, or freshly washed cars, and blow debris safely away. Clean up after using a blower and other equipment. Dispose of debris in an appropriate manner. AIR VENTS Do not cover the air vents. Keep them free of obstructions and debris. They must remain clear at all times in order to ensure proper cooling of the motor (Fig. 9). Tie back long hair above shoulder level in order to ensure that it will not get drawn into the air vents. 7

18 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS USING THE TOOL AS A BLOWER Converting to a Blower. Place the shoulder harness over the head and on the shoulder, and adjust it if necessary. Refer to the section entitled Installing the Shoulder Harness. 2. Start the Blower/Vac. See the section entitled Starting/Stopping Instructions. 3. Set the Blower/Vac mode flip-lever to the up position (Blower Mode) (Fig. 20). NOTE: Do not use the Blower/Vac if the lever is halfway between the modes. Slowly advance the blower, keeping the accumulated pile of debris in front. Most dry blowing operations are better suited to low speeds rather than high speeds. High-speed blowing is better suited to moving heavier items such as large debris or gravel.. Use the blower for trees, shrubs, flower beds, and hard-to-clean areas (Fig. 2). 2. 19 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS USING THE TOOL AS A VACUUM Converting to a Vacuum. Place the shoulder harness over the head and on the shoulder, and adjust it if necessary. Refer to the section entitled Installing the Shoulder Harness. 2. Start the Blower/Vac. See the section entitled Starting/Stopping Instructions. 3. Set the Blower/Vac mode flip-lever to the down position (Vacuum Mode) (Fig. 24). NOTE: Do not use the Blower/Vac if the lever is halfway between the modes. WARNING: In order to prevent serious personal injury or damage to the product, always install the vacuum tubes and the snap-on bag, and verify that the vacuum bag is completely zipped closed when using this tool as a vacuum. Using the Vacuum Verify the following before beginning: The operator is wearing proper clothing, including boots, safety glasses or goggles, ear/hearing protection, gloves, long pants, and long sleeves. If the conditions are dusty, the operator is wearing a dust mask or face mask. The Blower/Vac is in good working condition. The vacuum tubes and vacuum bag are in place and secure. The vacuum bag harness is in place, and is correctly adjusted. Use the vacuum for vacuuming up light debris such as leaves and paper. Hold the vacuum, tilting the suction tube slightly (2-4" or mm), and use a sweeping action to collect light debris (Fig. 25). The debris will flow into the Blower/Vac bag. Items such as small leaves and small twigs will be mulched as they pass through the fan housing, which allows the snap-on bag to hold more debris. Suction will decrease noticeably when the bag is full. Turn the Blower/Vac off and wait for the impeller to come to a complete stop before unzipping the bag. Unzip the bag and empty the contents before continuing. Refer to the section entitled Emptying the Snap-on Bag. NOTE: In order to avoid deterioration and obstructing the air flow, which will reduce the performance of the vacuum, empty the bag after each use. Do not vacuum warm ashes from a fireplace, a barbecue pit, a brush pile, etc. Do not vacuum discarded cigars or cigarettes unless the cinders are completely cool. 9

20 CLEARING A BLOCKED TUBE / IMPELLER EMPTYING THE SNAP-ON BAG OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, verify that the Blower/Vac is turned off and unplugged before clearing the impeller. WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, always wear gloves to protect the hands from the impeller blades.. Slide the Power/Speed switch to the OFF position, and wait until the Blower/Vac comes to a complete stop (Fig. 9). 2. Unplug the Blower/Vac. 3. Remove the Blower/Vac tube and the snap-on bag. 4. Carefully remove that material that is blocking the tube or impeller. Inspect the blades in order to verify that no damage has occurred. Rotate the impeller blades by hand in order to ensure that the blockage is completely cleared. 5. Reinstall the snap-on bag and the Blower/Vac tube. 6. Plug the Blower/Vac back into the power supply. WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, do not unzip or remove the bag while the Blower/Vac is running. NOTE: In order to avoid deterioration and obstructing the air flow, which will reduce the performance of the vacuum, empty the bag after each use.. Unplug the Blower/Vac. 2. Press the latching tabs on both sides of the bag tube, and pull the bag down away from the Blower/Vac (Fig. 26). 3. Detach the snap-on bag from the bag hook. 4. Unzip the bag, and empty the contents into a garbage bag or container. 5. Turn the bag inside-out after emptying it, and vigor-ously shake out the remaining dust and debris. 6. Turn the bag right-side-out, zip it closed, and re-install it. 7. Plug the Blower/Vac back into the power supply. WARNING: Wear eye protection and a dust mask when emptying the vacuum bag. Please check with municipal solid waste collection bylaws for disposal and pick-up times. 20

21 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS SERVICING DOUBLE INSULATED TOOLS This tool is double-insulated, which means that two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. There is no grounding provided, and no means of ground-ing should be added to this tool. Extreme care and knowledge of the system is required when servicing a double-insulated tool. Service should be performed by qualified service personnel only. Replace-ment parts for a double-insulated tool must be identical to the parts that they replace. Call the Toll-Free Helpline ( ) for information concerning repairs. Double-insulated tools are marked with the words double insulation or double insulated. CLEANING THE BLOWER/VAC WARNING: In order to avoid serious personal injury, turn the Blower/Vac off and unplug it before cleaning or servicing. Use a small brush to clean off the outside of the Blower/Vac. Do not use strong detergents, household cleaners that contain aromatic oils, such as pine and lemon, or solvents such as kerosene. These substances can damage the plastic housing or handle. Wipe off any moisture using a soft cloth. CLEANING THE SNAP-ON BAG. In order to avoid deterioration and obstructing the air flow, which will reduce the performance of the vacuum, empty the bag after each use. 2. Wear eye protection and a dust mask when emptying the vacuum bag. Turn the bag inside-out after empty-ing it, and vigorously shake out the remaining dust and debris. 3. Wash the bag once per year, or more often if needed: a. Remove the vacuum bag. b. Turn the bag inside out.c. Hang it up. d. Hose it down thoroughly. e. Hang it in order to dry it. f. Turn the bag right-side-out, and re-install it. STORAGE Store the Blower/Vac in a locked location in order to prevent unauthorized use or damage. Store the Blower/Vac in a dry, well-ventilated area. Store the Blower/Vac out of the reach of children. INSPECTING EXTENSION CORDS Inspect extension cords on a regular basis. Look closely for deterioration, cuts, or cracks in the insulation. Inspect the connectors for damage. Replace the extension cord if it is defective or damaged. 2
