WHAT IS AIR EXTRACTION RATE? Extraction rate is the speed at which a fan can move air. A large number means a faster extraction. Measured in Cubic Metres per Hour (m 3 /hr), the air extraction rate of a fan is one of the most important considerations. The Building Regulations stipulate that a bathroom extractor fan must extract at least 54m 3 /hr in a standard domestic bathroom. WHAT IS AN INLINE FAN? An inline fan is where the fan motor is remotely sited within the loft space and is connected to the fascia and external wall grille by the supplied flexible ducting. WHAT IS A WALL MOUNTED FAN? A wall mounted fan is where the fascia has an integrated fan and the ducting passes through the wall to an external grille. These fans are also suitable for ceiling mounting. WHAT VERSION OF THE HiB RANGE SHOULD I CONSIDER? The rate of extraction you require depends on the size of the room and the amount of condensation produced. The bigger the room or if large amounts of condensation are produced, then the more air will need to be replaced in the room, thus you need a higher rate of extraction. The COLOUR CODED DIAGRAM below illustrates this concept and must be followed to ensure the safe installation of bathroom lighting.
