Specially designed or modified units include industrial or commercial trailers. 1.2 In CSA Standards, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and can is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. Appliance a device to convert gas into energy (including any component, control, wiring, piping, or tubing required to be part of the device). Certified (with respect to an appliance, component, or accessory, or to the manufacturer s installation instructions) investigated by a certification body and determined to be meeting the requirements of recognized standards or meeting accepted test result criteria. Component an essential part of an appliance. Direct vent (sealed combustion) appliance an appliance constructed so that all of the combustion air is supplied directly from, and the products of combustion are vented directly to, the outdoors by an independent enclosed passageway connected directly to the appliance. Monitor vent an awning-type window with an area of less than mm 2 located in a wall as close to the ceiling as possible and used for ventilation. Readily accessible capable of being reached quickly for operation renewal (resetting), servicing, or inspection without requiring a person to climb over or remove an obstacle or use a portable ladder. Roof jack that portion of a manufactured home heater flue or vent assembly (including the cap, insulating means, flashing, and ceiling plate) located in and above the roof of a manufactured home. 4 General requirements Except as otherwise provided in this standard, Appliancesappliances, accessories, components, equipment, and materials used in gas- and oil-burning fired appliance installations shall be certified for the purpose for which they are to be employedcomply with CAN/CSA-B149.1, CAN/CSA-B149.2 and CSA B139 as applicable regardless of limits to application in those standards related to mobile homes.
