5 Types of Fires 05 Clean-air Fires THERE ARE TWO MAIN CATEGORIES OF CLEAN AIR FIRES A convection fi re has a casing around the fi re box which allows the air to fl ow. As the air passes around the hot fi re box, it gets heated. This action is known as convection. CONVECTION FIRES provide a more even heat to the room. The air is warmed from the ceiling down. It operates in a cycle where it heats the air surrounding the ceiling area fi rst and then pushing the warm air down. A convection fi re is more suitable for a room or house with a standard ceiling height and where more even heat distribution is desired. RADIANT FIRES heat quickly and if you sit close to them you can get warm even if the whole room has not had time to warm up. A radiant fi re transfers about two thirds of its heat by radiation and one third by convection. A radiant fi re is more suitable for rooms with high ceilings. Rural Fires RURAL FIRES ARE IDEAL FOR LARGE SPACES Large heat output, wide fi rebox cavity and wetback options make these fi res a perfect fi t for New Zealand s lifestyle and rural properties. Rural fi res are capable of a comprehensive overnight burn, making it an all in one multi-purpose appliance that offers great value for your money. They are available in a range of sizes and fi nishes (freestanding or inbuilt applications) to fi t both new and existing fi replaces. Multi-Fuel Fires MULTI-FUEL FIRES OFFER MORE HEAT Multi-fuel fi res offer more heat than traditional wood fi res and have a longer burn cycle due to the use of coal + wood.* A multi-fuel fi re is a great choice if you are looking for the benefi ts of a standard wood fi re but don t want to limit your options on what you can burn. Equipped with a grate and ash-pan, it will save you time and effort when it comes to cleaning the fi re. They are more suitable for large spacious properties that require lots of heat. * It is advisable to confi rm the proposed installation with your respective local authority.

6 06 The key to an effi cient, long-lasting fi re lies in the design and construction of the superior cast iron fi rebox. The Masport Heating cast iron fi reboxes feature an advanced panel design with an integrated array of heat dispersing fi ns that can increase the surface area by up to 65%. The result is a superior wood fi re that transfers heat from the cast iron fi rebox, through the fi ns and into the room effi ciently. The added thickness plus the height of the fi ns evidently gives extra mass and surface area to the cast iron fi rebox. This in return has the ability to retain the heat and distribute the warmth effi ciently for longer periods even after the fi re has died down. Triple Air Combustion Technology Masport fi reboxes have been built with a Triple Air Combustion system designed to effi ciently burn all the fuel put in the fi re. Primary air comes through slots with high/low control, gets preheated and drives primary combustion of fuel. It also creates an air wash over the door glass, keeping it clean. Secondary air comes from either side of the fi rebox through the air-tube which creates turbulence and burns small, unburnt fuel particles at a very high temperature. Tertiary air comes from below the door or rear of the fi rebox to ensure complete combustion. This complete combustion gives better effi ciency thus reducing running costs and keeping the environment clean.
