4 Factory Authorized Thermostatic Expansion Valves Always the Right Choice When your Carrier, Bryant or Payne customers have a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) that needs replacing, look no further than your local Totaline sales center. 10 A Coil Cleaner by Any Other Name Just Isn t the Same Q. Jim, I just have a question about the coil cleaners that Totaline has available. I needed to clean an indoor evaporator coil, but only the condenser coil cleaner was available. I figured both coils were made up the same - copper tubes and aluminum fins. And the chemical makeup for the condenser cleaner was similar to the evaporator cleaner. I also figured that the condensation on the indoor coil would also help remove any residual chemical that was not rinsed off. I used the condenser cleaner and it did an excellent job. I wanted to know if it is okay to use either chemical to do the job. Thank you. ~Ted Kaneshiro, Air Engineering Co. A. Ted, I spoke with our supplier about your inquiry. While both coils are aluminum fin and copper tube, their installation environment is very different. Indoor evaporator coils are often difficult to access making them very hard to rinse completely with water. Totaline evaporator coil cleaners are made to attack only the dirt and not the metal so that they can be allowed to "self rinse" with normal condensation. Traditional condenser coil cleaners are aggressive and contain reactive ingredients that generate expanding-foam action while working and must be completely rinsed before restarting the system. Inadequate rinsing of reactive/expanding-foam condenser coil cleaners can cause: Corrosion to equipment Irritation or burns to personnel Possible disruption of condensate flow patterns It is perfectly fine to use evaporator cleaner on condenser coils, but you really should not use condenser cleaner on evaporator coils, which will be difficult to completely rinse.
