4 FEATURES & OVERVIEW 4 FEATURES &OVERVIEW Congratulations! You have purchased the A.W.T. Dry-It Screen Drying Cabinet. Fully enclosed, and constructed of heavy-duty steel, the Dry-It Cabinet accommodates screens coated with film, emulsion, or wet with water. The cabinets are lightproof, requiring no costly darkroom space. While in operation, gentle, filtered, heated air flows evenly over and around the screens placed inside. As a result, the screens are dried quickly and dust free. The Dry-It Cabinet virtually eliminates pinholes, caused by improper drying or dirt flecks in the air, reducing the need for doing extensive block-out work. By keeping wooden frames dry, warping is also reduced. Each standard cabinet has ten shelves. The total number of frames you can place on a shelf is dependant upon the size of the frames. Model DC holds frames with a maximum O.D. of 30x38 ; Model DC x47 ; DC x73 ; and DC-7698 holds frames with a maximum O.D. of 76x98. Each shelf can also accommodate multiple frames with smaller dimensions. An extra frame holding arm or a perforated, steel, pull-out shelf to hold multiple small frames is also available as an option. Temperature is controlled through the Digital Temperature Control Adjustments located on the Control Panel on the side of the Dry-It cabinet. The standard variable temperature control is up to 120 F (49 C); higher temperatures are available. For more information, call A.W.T. s Sales Department. OTHER DRY-IT FEATURES INCLUDE: Fully insulated to reduce energy costs Ten, adjustable shelves Heavy-duty construction Quickly reaches maximum temperature with doors closed Smooth, clean, filtered air with exhaust Maximum frame height of 3 Heavy-duty casters for easy mobility OPTIONAL FEATURES Digital temperature control Perforated pull-out shelf for small frames Brackets for smaller frame use SET-UP & INSTALLATION Your Dry-It Cabinet should be placed in an area where there is adequate ventilation. The rear of the unit should be placed far enough away from any walls or obstructions so as to allow the operator to walk behind the cabinet and easily change the filter or replace the components located in the metal housing on the rear of the cabinet. SAFETY WARNING! Always make sure cabinet is unplugged BEFORE installing or servicing the cabinet. 1. Carefully uncrate the unit. 2. Connect the unit to a grounded electrical outlet, after checking the identification plate for proper voltage. This plate is located on the rear of the cabinet, next to the exhaust fans and heating assembly housing. 3. Open the front door (or double doors on larger models) by releasing the locking lever located at the top of the door. Simply bring the handle of the locking lever forward, releasing the locking mechanism and swing the level upward to move it out of the way as you open the door(s). 4. Adjust each shelf bracket to accommodate the size of your frames, by manually turning the thumbscrew located at the front of each shelf 2004 No part of this literature may be reproduced without written permission. Each press of the down arrow key deccrements or returns the values displayed. POWER ON/OFF SWITCH Placing this toggle switch in its up position initiates power and begins the heating process. Placing this toggle switch in its down position deactivates th epower and stops the heating process. 6 CONTROLS 6 2.Turn the on/off switch (see Diagram 1 on page 3) to the on position. The small red power indicator light will come on. 3. If you wish to increase the temperature, and you have a model that has a heat control knob (see Diagram 1, page 3), turn the knob counter clockwise. First, check the thermometer (located on the door of the cabinet) for the exact temperature, then adjust the heat control accordingly to achieve the temperature you desire. A good starting point is 90 F. If you are drying wooden frames that are extremely wet, select a higher temperature; 100 F, for example. 4.If you wish to increase or decrease the temperature, and you have a model with a digital temperature control, gently push either the up or down arrows on your -change if digital is standard.temperature control keypad (see Diagram XX, on page X), depending on whether you wish to raise or lower the temperature. As with dial indicators, check the thermometer (located on the door of the cabinet) for the exact temperature, then adjust the heat control accordingly, to achieve the temperature you desire. NOTE: Be careful when using temperatures that are too hot. For photo sensitive films and emulsions, check with the manufacturer first for their recommended temperature settings. Figure 4. Adjusting the Frame Brackets. Adding Optional Frame Brackets Each shelf on a standard Dry-It Cabinet comes with one sliding shelf bracket that you can adjust to accommodate smaller screens. If you frequently have smaller frames and would like to dry multiple frames on one shelf, you may purchase additional shelf brackets (see Accessories on Page XX, for instructions on how to install brackets). Adding Optional Perforated Shelves These perforated shelves have four raised sides to hold multiple small frames. These shelves simply sit on top of the existing shelves of the cabinet. The A.W.T. Dry-It Screen Drying Cabinet requires very little maintenance. It is recommended, however, that you keep the inside surfaces clean and free from dust. The cabinet doors should be kept closed at all times to keep dust from entering inside the drying chamber, possibly causing pinholes in your image and reducing the cabinet s drying effectiveness. MAINTENANCE Cleaning the Filters The filter is located in the back of the drying cabinet, underneath the red, metal cover. The filters may be easily removed and cleaned by removing the four hex screws located at each corner of this red housing, removing the cover. The filters can be easily cleaned by shaking out any excess dirt and dust, running the filter under warm water and allowing to dry. (I have to check with Jorge/Engrg. on this procedure.) CLEANING THE HEATING ELEMENTS IMPORTANT! Dirty heating elements and unclean filters can cause your heating elements to burn out. Be sure to clean both components on a regular basis. A.W.T. uses a high quality, u-shaped heating element that is designed for years of typical drying applications. Periodically, you may find that dust particles will gather on this heating element, 2004 No part of this literature may be reproduced without written permission. Specifications subject to change without notice. #LIT- 05/04
7 7 CONTROLS reducing its effectiveness and possibly causing the element to burn out. To clean the heating element, you will need to remove it from the heating assembly housing, located at the rear of the cabinet. 1.Remove the four hex screws (located at each corner of the red, perforated metal heat shield cover that is on top of the housing) by turning each screw counterclockwise. 2.Pull off the metal heat shield and set aside. 3.Using a slotted screwdriver, remove the four screws located on top of the housing. 4.Pull off cover and pull heating assembly straight up until complete visible. 5.Using a lint-free cloth, such as A.W.T. s Tackaway cloth (part number TA-1836) gently wipe all dirt and dust from all sides of the u-shaped heating element. 6.Carefully lower assembly, and replace housing and heat shield covers.
