Why Urbanscape Landscaping Solutions? The landscaping industry is constantly evolving to ensure improved plant growth, resistance to environmental stress and soil erosion control management. Additionally, the sustainable aspect of landscaping solutions related to water conservation is becoming increasingly important. Water saving capability is one of the main advantages of the innovative Urbanscape Landscaping System from Knauf Insulation to meet water management challenges. 02
Urbanscape Landscaping System urbanscape Urbanscape is an innovative and easy to install system with high water retention capacity designed specifically for landscaping areas such as residential gardens, golf courses, commercial spaces, cemeteries and public parks. Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate is made of natural rock mineral wool fibres with superior water absorption and water retention properties. Performance can be further improved by dispersing super water absorbent particles directly into rock mineral wool felt. Particles provide additional water storage, releasing it when required. Super absorbent particles also protect the water from evaporating and leaching when temperatures are high, making Urbanscape Substrates the most suitable for growing plants in the most demanding environments. The positive effect on root distribution consequently leads to better propagation and growth of plants. Vegetation Soil or sand cover Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate Base ground (rock, sand, soil) Private/residential gardens Public and commercial gardens, parks and spaces Above and beyond 03

What are the main benefits? urbanscape High water conservation Urbanscape Substrate provides fast and long term stable water re-absorption and water retention performance (proven by WOK and pf-curve analysis). 1m 2 of Urbanscape Substrate with 2cm thickness absorbs 17 litres of rainwater. Depending on type of local climate and/or weather season, up to 75% of water can be saved. Stronger plants Due to high water and fertilizer storage by Urbanscape Substrate, early and long flowering periods are ensured. Plants have also fast recovery after long dry periods. Efficient installation Urbanscape Substrates are lightweight and easy to install. Reduced irrigation frequency Urbanscape Substrate ensures that a proper amount of water is available for plant roots for long periods. Therefore, the need for an additional irrigation system is substantially reduced. Sustainability Urbanscape Substrates are made from various rock mixtures which are widely available in nature. The lightweight open structure of products promotes extensive root distribution and plant growth. Reduced fertilizers consumption Urbanscape Substrate binds fertilizers with water into small water reservoirs to supply more nutrients essential for the plant growth. Improved root growth Water available in reservoirs created by Urbanscape Substrates ensures proper plant roots growth and extensive root distribution. 05
Urbanscape Substrates Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate (HTC GR) is a lightweight landscaping substrate made of long rock mineral wool fibres specially needled to form a compact and dimensionally stable felt. The product is made solely of virgin rock mineral fibres. Urbanscape Green Roll ensures excellent water retention and conservation in different landscaping applications and is a good addition to growing substrates made from various mineral mixtures. Urbanscape Green Roll Medium (HTC GR M) and Urbanscape Green Roll High (HTC GR H) have additionally super absorbent particles dispersed into the rock mineral wool felt. This makes this product the most suitable for growing plants as rock mineral felt absorbs water through capillary action and particles which provide additional water storage, releasing it when required. Super absorbent particles also protect the water from evaporating and leaching when temperatures are high. 7 urbanscape Urbanscape Green Cubes Urbanscape Green Cubes are bio-soluable water absorbent growing medium made of virgin rock mineral wool. Urbanscape Green Cubes are used primarily as a soil enhancement product for horticulture applications: Use alone as a growing medium in pots. Mix with other pot media (soil, coconut fibres, peat) to improve water holding capacity and aeration. Mix into sandy or loamy garden soil to improve water absorption and water storage capacity. Urbanscape Green Cubes Characteristics Value Unit Standard Ignition loss max. 0.2 %wt Moisture content max %wt Fibre diameter approx. 4.5 µm SK_109 Cube size 10 or 20 mm Colour Grey/Green Urbanscape Green Flocks Urbanscape Green Flocks are bio-soluable water absorbent growing medium made of virgin rock mineral wool. Urbanscape Green Flocks are used as growing medium for home and professional use, or as a high quality soil enhancement product in landscaping architecture and agriculture: Use alone as a growing medium in pots. Mix with other pot media (soil, coconut fibres, peat) to improve water holding capacity and aeration. Mix into sandy or loamy garden soil to improve water absorption and water storage capacity. 8 Installation Guidelines Example of installation at a Golf Course (Green Area) Step 1 : Preparation Before starting the installation, check the vegetation type, which should determine how deep in the soil the Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate shall be set up. Step 2 : Base ground Remove the soil from the top down to the depth determined in step 1. Make the base ground even. Step 3 : Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate Roll out Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate on top of prepared base ground. Install Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate tightly side by side. If necessary, Urbanscape Green Roll Substrate can be cut to the right size (with cutting knife or scissors). 08
urbanscape Step 4 : Putting soil/ sand on top Evenly distribute the top cover. Depending on the type of application the top cover can be soil, sand or any other type of substrate used in the landscaping industry.. Step 5 : Seeding Once the surface is finalised, proceed with seeding and make sure you water well for the first couple of days or untill the roots reach the Urbanscape Roll Substrate. Above and beyond 09
Performance Testing Results Increase in water absorption capacity of substrate mix vs substrates (with different volume ratios). After adding Urbanscape Green Cubes or Urbanscape Green Flocks to the substrates to form 50:50 mixture, the following average statistically significant increases in water absorption were recorded: 1. Mixture of regular garden soil and: Urbanscape Green Cubes: +40% Urbanscape Green Flocks: % 2. Mixture of peat and: Urbanscape Green Cubes: % Urbanscape Green Flocks: % 3. Mixture of sand and: Urbanscape Green Cubes: +66% Urbanscape Green Flocks: +67% Results show that mixtures with the addition of Urbanscape Cubes and Flocks, which are highly absorbent additives, are suitable for growing plants in hot and dry climates. The root ( growth ) layers of the substrates are absorbing more rainfall or irrigated water and the necessity for watering cycles is reduced. Additionally, when adding Urbanscape Green Cubes and Flocks, the weight of substrate (dry or wet) is substantially reduced. 10
