4 Giving homes and businesses piece of mind for over 60 years De Raat was founded in the 1950 s by Mr. G.W. De Raat from Zoetermeer in the Netherlands. Originally a locksmith by trade, Mr. De Raat had a vision of becoming a major supplier of high quality safes and secure storage in the international safe market. In 1967 De Raat Wholesale B.V. was created, which then changed to De Raat Security Products in The European headquarters remains in Zoetermeer to this day, however De Raat has since opened offices in Belgium and the UK and supply many markets outside of Europe. The De Raat group of companies include manufacturing premises in Germany, Italy and Poland making it one of the largest manufacturers of security safes in Europe. The group manufactures both off the shelf certified safes and bespoke security solutions for domestic and commercial customers. De Raat UK originally started out as Blaylock Safes in 1995, the name changed to Safes UK Ltd before adopting the De Raat Security Products brand in The UK office, situated in Ellesmere, Shropshire, holds stock and distributes to many customers throughout the UK. Based in Ellesmere, Shropshire we hold stock to help us meet our customers delivery lead time expectations. 6 Choosing the right safe for you There are many models of security safes for you to choose from and if you have a special requirement, such as an insurance stipulation, it s important you choose the right safe. Step 1 Decide what you want to keep safe. Step 3 What size do you need? Safes are perfect for keeping cash, valuables, documents and irreplaceable items protected. Step 2 Decide what you want the contents to be protected from. Safes are designed to protect its contents from theft and some also provide protection from fire and water. Look out for the protection icons to help you decide what to choose. We know customers fill their safes very quickly, so it s always best to choose a model with a large enough capacity to protect everything you need. Step 4 Need a Safe with an insurance rating? Make sure you check with your insurance provider the model you choose has the appropriate rating before ordering. Step 5 Ask us for help. If in doubt, please call your local De Raat Dealer or go online at Security (Insurance) Rating This indicates the amount of cash and valuables that can be expected to be covered by the insurance underwriters when items are locked in a safe which is secured in an appropriate way. However, depending on the security measures taken at the location where the safe is installed, insurance underwriters are at liberty to decide on a different level of cover to those indicated here. The Association of Insurance Surveyors approve all safes that meet ECB-S certification, look for the AiS logo to help identify those safes. ESSA De Raat is a member of ESSA. The European Security Systems Association, is an independent institute which claims to provide clear and uniform test methods, standardisation and certification of safes lock and test institutes. The ESSA certified products display a blue ECB-S label, on this label you can find the most important features of the safe; to which standard it has been tested, the certificate number; the resistance grade, the weight and the year of fabrication. This ECB-S certificate can be found on the inside of the door and offers the buyer the reassurance that the safe complies with the highest European standards. 6

7 Eurograded safes These safes are formally tested security safes certified by the European Standard which is used to grade burglary resistant safes. Eurograde safes are tested according to EN by independent test institutes. Tests at these institutes for burglary resistance are carried out by very experienced and qualified testers with the relevant knowledge and skills. The results of their attempts to open the safes are translated into Resistance Units (RU) and the tools used and the time taken to open the safe are taken into account. The results are used to determine the correct grade for the safe. The labels S1 and S2 are displayed on the inside of the door and insurers require that the safe is well anchored to a wall or the floor to benefit from the insurance rating. These are also called Security level 1 and 2. Local factors can lower the insured value, but other circumstances may also raise the cash cover. 7

8 Fire ratings The average temperature of fires can reach 600 to 800 C. In extreme cases, the temperature may rise to 1000 C. Fire resistant products are made to ensure that the inside temperature of the safe or cabinet does not exceed the temperature at which paper or data will be damaged. At a temperature of 175 C paper can be damaged or even perish. The critical limit for magnetic data is about 50 C, however digital media such as CD s/dvd s/usb drives is higher, similar to paper. Data safes also provide protection against moisture, dust and soot particles. There are several fire resistant safes, cabinets and data boxes available, which provide perfect protection against fire and theft for your documents and data. DIN 4102 Products in the DIN 4102 category are double walled and filled with a fire resistant insulation. DIN 4102 is a construction standard, which means these units are not specifically tested for fire resistance within safes and cabinets. DIN 4102 cabinets provide limited protection to paper from fire for a short time. Fire Tests If you want the best protection against fire, you should choose one of the tested products from our range. Fire tests are carried out at independent testing institutes in several countries to ensure the products do exactly what we claim they do. There are several fire protection standards to which a product can be tested and the cabinets are tested at prescribed temperatures. Some standards also include a drop test which ensures the protective effect is not adversely affected if a fire resistant cabinet falls through a storey floor during a fire. The fire resistance is expressed in time (minutes) followed by P for paper indicating how long a fire resistant cabinet would protect the contents in a fire. The Most Common Fire Resistant Tests EN (S60P or S120P for paper) 1 or 2 hours fire resistant up to approx C. Drop test 9.15 metres. LFS (EN 15659) (LFS30 or LFS60 for paper) 30 min or 1 hour fire resistant up to approx. 850 C. No drop test. NT Fire P or 90P or 120P for paper 1, 1 ½ or 2 hours fire resistant up to approx C. The product, make, model and quantity required. 2. Delivery address, where do you want the unit delivered? Please provide full delivery address along with a contact name, telephone number and address. 3. How you want it delivered, what are the options? Standard pavement level drop-off via courier (generally for items under 100kgs) we use couriers who are able to supply tracking numbers for these smaller items. Specialist delivery & position for larger items generally over 100kgs, or if you just need that bit of extra help getting a smaller unit inside, or you need the safe bolted down (bolt down must be specified if required as additional charges apply). For specialist delivery, we need confirmation that the delivery is to a standard ground floor, max 1 step or if there are steps involved we will need further information in order to provide a delivery quote. If in doubt we will send you a delivery form which takes away the guess work and reduces the risk of aborted deliveries and additional costs. Pallet drop-off, this service is available on most products or where you re interested in buying in quantity. Items via pallet carriers can be off-loaded via a tail-lift and pump truck, but please be aware that they are classed as a pavement level drop off only, the carriers will not position these units so this may not be the best option for residential customers. Collection, we re always happy to supply a product on an ex-works basis if you have your own transport or would like to arrange your own carriers. 4. Your order number and a customer reference if they need this specifying on the delivery paperwork. 5. Specific delivery date, if your customer is looking for a delivery on a special day, please let us know and we can ship it accordingly. For larger items, the carrier operates on a postcode day system, so we ll look for the closest possible date that s mutually agreeable. Once we ve processed your order, you ll receive a confirmation , advising the tracking number where applicable or further detail regarding lead-times etc. For small stock items we operate a next working day delivery if the order is placed prior to 1pm, larger stock items are 1-3 days if delivery is via pallet drop off or 5-10 working days for specialist installation. If a product is out of stock, we will of course be in touch with you to advise expected lead-times which will be dependent on stock in our central European warehouse or if we need to order from the factory. 59
