3 Each year in the United States, patients contract nearly 1.7 million infections in the hospital while they are being treated for something else. These Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) result in nearly 100,000 patient deaths per year. ¹ Research conducted at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, Madison, identified that 77% of reusable ECG leads were contaminated with one or more antibiotic-resistant nosocomial pathogen. 2 Clinical alarms have been identified as one of the top 10 Technology hazards. 3 The American Journal of Emergency Medicine reported that 99.4% of monitor alarms were determined to be false and less than 1% of monitor alarms resulted in a change in patient management. 3 A national survey conducted on the impact of clinical alarms on patient safety reported that a large portion of respondents identified false alarms as problematic because they disrupted patient care and reduced trust in the alarm information. 4 In response to these growing concerns, Covidien developed the Kendall DL Disposable ECG Cable and Lead Wire System. Telemetry Monitoring Diagnostic Monitoring Bedside Monitoring
4 Kendall DL Your Disposable ECG Cable and Lead Wire Safety Solution. Reduce Your Risk of Cross Contamination with Reusable ECG Cable and Lead Wires Avoid patient exposure to multiple reusable ECG cables and lead wires Only system to provide complete protection by going from the patient to the monitor versus just to the cable Replace reusable cables and lead wires with a completely disposable single patient use system Meet Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Society of Healthcare Epidemiologists of America (SHEA) recommendation to use dedicated patient specific non-critical equipment 5,6 Assist with The Joint Commission (TJC) National Safety Patient Goal of Reducing HAIs by implementing evidence-based practices 7 Customer Survey: One third of survey respondents reported that infections were reduced when Kendall DL was incorporated as part of their infection control strategy 8 Reduce Your Risk of False Leads Off Clinical Alarms Only system to provide clinicians a locked on mechanism to the electrode which creates stronger electrode attachment Fully shielded system reduces the risk of electromagnetic interference (EMI) creating artifact resulting in false alarms Meet American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) recommendation of medical devices being configured to minimize nuisance alarms 3 Assist with TJC requirement to implement a clinical alarm management strategy 7 Customer Survey: 40% of respondents reported lead pop off alarms were reduced by half after converting to Kendall DL 8
