Helidecks are among the few resting places in the area and are often without human presence, making them an optimal place for birds to perch. The presence of birds and bird guano at platforms is a globally recognized problem that can seriously jeopardize safety for the helicopter movements and working conditions. Collisions between birds and helicopters occur frequently and platform navigation markings and lights can be affected due to bird droppings and debris. The components of the Aerolaser Helipad are of the highest international standard to ensure a mission critical operation. The principle of repelling birds with a laser beam is inspired by nature. Birds perceive the approaching laser beam as a physical object. It appeals to the survival instinct, causing the birds to fly away. The continuous presence of the moving laser beam keeps areas free of birds, 24 hours a day. 3 Increased safety The Aerolaser Helipad guarantees a safer landing of helicopters by minimizing collisions between the helicopter and birds and reduces the amount of aborted landings due to bird presence. The clear visibility of markings and navigation lights is essential, especially during bad weather conditions or night-time. Bird droppings cover the markings and navigation lights, jeopardizing the safety for pilots and personnel. In the new CAP437 helideck lighting will be integrated into the landing area. Thus, preventing the covering of markings and navigation lights by bird droppings becomes even more important. Improved working conditions The Aerolaser Helipad creates a safe and healthy working environment by preventing the accumulation of guano. Guano contains dangerous bacteria, which spread during windy days and by the downwash of the helicopter. Next to this, guano makes the helideck a very slippery place. Reduce mandatory costs and increase lifetime The Aerolaser Helipad reduces helideck cleaning costs of bird droppings and prevents the deterioration of the markings, surface and structure of the helideck. The Aerolaser Helipad reduces the amount of aborted landings caused by bird presence and enables operators to a more frequently accessible platform by reducing the amount of daylight only or cleaning crew only statuses of the helidecks. Comply with rules and regulations ICAO Annex 14 and UK CAA CAP437 mandate the visibility of markings on the landing area. Bird droppings make these markings invisible which leads to compliance failure. Flora and fauna regulations prohibit disturbing nesting birds and destroying nests. Violation of these regulations could lead to enforcement measures being imposed, both administratively and criminally. 5 Long-term effectiveness The Aerolaser Helipad maintains its repelling effect over time, by applying proven laser technology and highly effective dispersal sounds in a randomized sequence. Where sound only is an indication for a physical danger without the physical threat, we combine sound with a visual laser beam stimulus. Birds perceive the laser beam as a physical danger. Together with the use of proprietary sound technology, we enter the comfort zone of birds. This approach is revolutionary compared to conventional methods. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport uses our lasers for years and confirms the claim birds do not get used to the laser beam. Other customers realize 75% to 90% reduction in amount of gulls when using our systems. Suitable for any type of helideck The adaptive nature of the Aerolaser Helipad allows configuration on any type or shape of helideck. The system does not exceed the CAP437 and ICAO maximal dimensions for helipads. By configuring the helideck perimeter, autonomous repelling actions will be performed exclusively within the boundaries of the helideck. Projection beyond the helideck is thereby prevented at all times.

The housing is constructed of RVS316L steel to guarantee gas tightness and protect the internal components, even during harsh weather conditions. Every component of the Aerolaser Helipad is carefully selected to meet high grade industrial quality standards, to ensure years of operation at sea with minimal maintenance. Highly accurate laser positioning The essential feature of the Helipad system consists of the highly accurate and safe laser beam positioning. The Aerolaser Helipad positions the laser beam in the field with a resolution up to degrees in both horizontal and vertical directions. The Horizon Safety System, optical encoders and self-calibration features ensure that the laser beam does not drift away from the pre-set positions. This ensures mission critical positioning and market leading safety standards.

This was accomplished by applying a combination of highly precise optics, filtering and light frequencies. Remote control & safety stop The Aerolaser Helipad is equipped with a redundant safety stop feature; a physical stop button disables the system when the user in within reach of the device and a extendable interlock switch can be connected to a control panel near the side of the helideck to disable the system from a safe distance. Active Maintenance Management To guarantee system uptime, the Aerolaser Helipad is equipped with Active Maintenance Management. This feature actively keeps track of the operating hours of the critical system components and will notify the user whenever maintenance is required.

8 Configuration The adjustable nature of the Helipad system requires an easy and fast way to configure the system to the needs of the situation. Therefore up to 100 different zones and time slots can be configured. If the situation requires highly specific movement of the laser beam, the waypoint method can be used. This allows the user to manually configure the projection path by recording multiple waypoints. The Helipad system has an intelligent dual-method configuration ability: the Polygon method and the Waypoint method. The Polygon method is used to quickly assign bird-free zones to the Helipad machine. By locking the corners of the zones, the system automatically calculates the optimal paths for effective bird repelling. The Dynamic Time Interval (DTI) is designed to prevent habituation, while optimizing energy use for increased system uptime. The DTI makes sure the laser beam sweeps the area in random intervals for optimal clearing of the bird hot spot.

Extensive collection of distress sounds The mobile app features a collection of dispersal sounds consisting of bioacoustics, sounds for Acoustic Startle Reflexes (ASR) and unnatural dispersal sounds. It contains more than 100 sounds that have been proven effective for wildlife dispersal. The Aerolaser Helipad automatically adjusts the laser brightness to ambient light conditions, while its bird repelling performance is maintained. Where high laser brightness is required during sunny weather, limited brightness is sufficient during dusky and dark weather conditions, thereby saving power and preventing light pollution. The adjustable laser brightness feature secures the optimum between effectiveness, energy use and safety.

Therefore the Aerolaser Helipad comes with a full service integration package. Installation support and configuration Training and documentation The engineers of Bird Control Group are experienced and fully certified to perform offshore installation support and configuration of the Aerolaser Helipad. In order to make sure the operators know how to use the Aerolaser Helipad, training is organized for personnel who are involved in working with the device. After installation according to the guidelines of the installation manuals, our engineers will configure the system for maximum effectiveness and safe operation. Since each helideck is different, customized documentation will be supplied to the installation, maintenance and HSE department. After configuration, the system is ready to keep birds away from the helideck in full autonomous manner.

11 Service level agreement Regulatory compliance Each Aerolaser Helipad comes with an extensive Service Level Agreement (SLA) in which maintenance and the availability of spare parts are agreed. Next to product compliance, compliance with labor guidelines is an important domain when lasers are introduced to the company s operation. Thanks to the Active Maintenance Management capabilities of the Aerolaser Helipad, maintenance can be scheduled in advance. In order to minimize the amount of downtime, a second unit or essential spare parts are available for direct replacement at all times. Bird Control Group makes sure the customer is compliant with labor guidelines by supplying a Laser Safety Service (LSS). The LSS consists of a laser safety officer, which is mandatory for each organization that works with professional laser equipment. As part of the LSS, the necessary safety instructions are documented and the external laser safety officer acts as the knowledge base for the company s HSE department.
