SECTION 2 - A" FRAME TO PUMPING STATION This section is narrow in places, with an uneven track passing through the shoreline bush. Exposed tree roots are evident, which present a safety hazard for users of the track and potential long term damage to the trees from ongoing root damage. In addition, for much of the track there is no evident separation of private property from the public land the track passes through. This section has a level of weed growth that will cause loss of native vegetation and more severe problems in the future if not dealt with soon. FIGURE 7 - TYPICAL SECTION 2 TRACK There are two boat sheds (one either end of this section as shown in figures 8 and 9) that prohibit passage of wheelchairs, strollers, disability scooters, etc. These sheds also hinder machinery access to improve and maintain the track. FIGURE 8 - "A" FRAME BOAT SHED FIGURE 9 - BOAT SHED AT WESTERN END OF TRACK 10 v4.5
FIGURE 1 - TYPICAL CLEARING BY ADJOINING LANDOWNERS As shown in figure 2, three of the seven zones have been cleared of native vegetation over time by successive landowners, and are now maintained by current adjacent landowners as mowed lawn. Figure 10 shows a typical scene of clearing by adjoining landowners. These zones should be permitted to revert to their native state by allowing regrowth of cleared paperbark and other native species; however this could only be achieved with adjoining landowner s cooperation. This project will seek adjoining landowner support for clump planting which will not reduce the visual amenity currently available. 11 v4.5
ACTION PLAN Appendix A outlines a provisional project plan for implementation of this project, while Appendix B details the plan to restore and plant the fauna along the track, together with diagrams of specific planting sites. Appendix D details the principles under which this project will be undertaken. The following works have been identified and assigned to various stages of this Management Plan. PROJECT COORDINATION Produce Management Plan. PLCG $ 0 15 $ 450 Project Coordination. PLCG $ 0 20 $ 600 Consult with East Gippsland Shire Council (EGSC) Arborist. PLCG / EGSC $ 0 10 $ 300 Total $ 0 45 $ 1,350 STAGE 1 - PUBLIC CONSULTATION AND INFORMATION PROVISION Identify boundaries between private and crown land so the project does not infringe on any private property. PLCG / Land Registrar $ 0 5 $ 150 Prepare publications. PLCG $ $ 300 Install Signage and Interpretative Information (assume 5 signs). PLCG $ 1, $ 600 Total $ 1, $ 1,050 STAGE 2 - IMPROVE ACCESS AROUND BOAT SHEDS Improve access behind boat sheds and install retaining wall to hold remaining bank. Re-level track leading up to boat sheds to reduce gradient. EGSC $ 0 0 $ 0 EGSC $ 0 0 $ 0 Total $ 0 0 $ 0 12 v4.5
STAGE 3 - IMPROVE THE ECOLOGICAL VALUES SECTION 1 - SUNSET COVE TO A FRAME Clear dead flora (where it represents a safety issue for track users) and control weeds, including dodder where it is killing the host tree. PLCG $ $ 900 Repair trackside erosion. EGSC $ 0 0 $ 0 Plant tube stock for whole of Section (200 mixed species, guards & stakes). Landcare Network / PLCG $ $ 600 Total $ $ 1,500 SECTION 2 - A FRAME TO PUMPING STATION As stated earlier, this section has been broken down into 7 zones (see Figure 2) which are grouped as Cleared zones and Native zones. The following tasks have been identified for each group. Cleared Zones: Work with adjacent landowners to identify areas for reduced mowing of crown land that would allow for regrowth, and Selective planting of tube stock (500 mixed species, guards & stakes). Native Zones: Plant tube stock for whole of Section (200 mixed species, guards & stakes). PLCG Landcare Network / PLCG Landcare Network / PLCG $ 0 $ 1, $ 300 $ 1,500 $ $ 600 Total $ 1, $ 2, v4.5
STAGE 4 - UPGRADE TRACK Clear, widen and form track where appropriate to permit volunteers and contractors to gain access for equipment, etc required to perform revegetation work. This track should allow two persons to walk abreast of each other and will remain as a permanent track for all users. EGSC $ 0 0 $ 0 Total $ 0 0 $ 0 STAGE 5 - IMPROVE AMENITIES 1. IMPROVE SUNSET COVE PLAYGROUND SURROUNDS Clear dead flora (where it represents a safety issue for track users) and control weeds. Tube stock for whole area (200 mixed species, guards & stakes). PLCG $ $ 450 Landcare Network / PLCG $ $ 600 Clear Kikuyu grass from beach area. PLCG $ 50 5 $ 150 Total $ $ 1, INSTALL BENCH SEATS Identify locations and obtain EGSC approval. Application rate of 10ml/litre water unless using concentrate for direst application onto cut surfaces. Apply concentrate (or partially diluted) by brush or sponge applicator 2. FUSILADE (Fluazifop -p - butyl) For control of most grasses. Note native grasses are effected as well exotic grasses The use of Fusilade in assisting in weed removal as part of the Sunset Cove Walking Track vegetation rehabilitation works is recommended for use in controlling specifically Kikuyu and Buffalo Grass in the clumps of remnant Melaleuca ericifolia. Spraying must always be undertaken facing away from the lake water with no spray material to enter the waterway. Spraying should be undertaken on still days preferably early in the morning. Melaleuca sucker regrowth can be over sprayed to ensure full coverage of Kikuyu runners. Full results can be expected in 3-5 weeks from spraying. 18 v4.5
