3 FArent and Pyke, or talented design duo this year marks a lustrum of dedication for the pair. Not they produced a body of work displaying simple and functional beauty, the work is also rarely out of any design publication from one month to the next. So after half a decade, Juliette Arent and Sarah-Jane Pyke are extremely happy with the way things have evolved, from to a now trusted and revered And that's only the professional side, as on the personal, the boxes keep on ticking; from an eventful recent wedding to the year alone. One feels inclined to pinpoint what the recipe for success is for the two talented women at the helm of an operation that whilst still on the rise, is already A-list design community. When asked to expand on their design ethos, including a reference to a 'livable sophistication' tag, both thoughtfully respond. 5 Adding depth In the bedroom, Dulux 'Guild Grey' was chosen 'for it's depth and moodiness'. Fun floral The acidic lemon tones of the Christopher Farr 'Peonies' in yellow fabric on the occasional chair, offsets the darker hues of the bedroom. Whilst Sarah-Jane delves deeper, adding that sophisticated design does not need to be at the expense of warmth. "Warmth can be created by the inclusion of the unexpected which is one of our signatures," says Sarah-Jane. The couples recent creation, a Woollahra family home, is laced with that warmth as well as a creative comfort. When asked about for the brief for the home, Sarah-Jane and Juliette clarify. "For this home it was unusual in that we were almost given carte blanche on the decorative schemes! It was important to support a young and modern aesthetic whilst challenging the original traditional foundations of the home." noticeable in their design is the indoor/outdoor continuity. "It is important to consider what is outside. This is especially true of Sydney, where people's lifestyle habits blur indoor and outdoor boundaries," explains Juliette. Finally, the obvious question for a duo that have already achieved so much, is what we will expect to see from Arent and Pyke in the "We are thoroughly enjoying the varied experience and talent of our design team. We are looking into adding another string to the A and P bow... but it is still in a very conceptual phase, so we can't talk about it too much yet!"
