2 1 Mrs Stone Store Brochure 2016 A personal welcome Nine years on from where we started, mrs stone store has grown from a tiny family run business to a larger independent family run business. Based in beautiful Derbyshire we specialise in the retail of natural stone, particularly Brazilian slate, limestone and other natural stones. So where did it all begin? Since its conception in a garden shed back in 2007, originally as an ebay store, there has been a journey of exceptional moments. We ve had highs and lows and experienced all the challenges that running a family business brings. Two websites later and a rebrand to what you see today, we now have a showroom in Hilton, a growing internet business and online social following that love what we do. It has been a fantastically evolving process to bring the business to the point it is at today. I truly believe it is our years of experience in natural stone that makes us a respected industry authority and we now import and stock a wide range of high quality natural stone from around the world. For many it is the hub of the house; where we socialize with friends, entertain, or watch TV so when designing a room that has so many functions it is important to choose furnishings and products for your kitchen that are both aesthetically pleasing but also practical. Natural stone flooring and in particular honed limestone makes a fantastic choice for kitchen spaces. Members of the Mrs Stone Store team choose their favourite tiles Molly Charlotte My favourite stone is the moleanos fine beige honed because of the amount of fossils in the tiles. I am in the accounts department and my favourite thing to do is debt chasing (as I am the bulldog lol) I like working here as it s a friendly atmosphere and very laid back. I like being able to bring the dog in with me every now and then. My favourite stone has to be the white quartz split face panels quite simply because they re sparkly and I am such a magpie. I love the white frosty appearance of the stone and the stunning texture. It s like having your very own piece of Frozen in your house! When not at work I dream of living in a world filled with calorie-free cake and owning a French bulldog puppy where the sun shines every day and socks don t go missing. Raith My favourite stone is the Heritage Flagstone Black Limestone because of the fact it is a dark limestone, the different processes it goes through to achieve the unique look and feel it has. I love getting to know people, have a big imagination. I love helping customers make decisions on the stone they are interested in. Talking and getting to know them as they share their experience of buying natural slate and limestone with me! I love the idea of travelling the world, seeing new places and exploring different cultures and walks of life! Sally My favourite stone is the Dijon Antique Limestone. I love the soft warm tones, and the way it feels to the touch. I could look at it for hours and always see something different. It reminds me of lazy evenings in a sun-drenched villa. Sitting on the veranda looking out onto a beautiful sunset, listening to the sea lapping against the sand, with a gentle scent of exotic flowers drifting through the breeze - perfect!! Libby Without a doubt my favourite stone is Brazilian slate. The range of colours, textures and patterns that you can get in Brazilian slate is what in my opinion makes it one of the most beautiful natural stones to work with and Brazilian slate is of an exceptional quality. Apart from being passionate about my business I have a love of retro / kitsch 1950s memorabilia and furniture and hanker after a pink kitchen one day! Becky Jerusalem Cream Honed is my favourite stone. All natural stone is uniquely beautiful but being able to see the fossilised shells, crystal veining and gentle pattern changes still amazes me every time I look at it. I was recently asked, apart from your family, friends and health, what could you not do without? My answer was simple, music - of every kind and my sewing machine! When I m not at work I love putting my hand to DIY. There s nothing more satisfying than seeing your vision come to life!

5 7 Mrs Stone Store Brochure 2016 Mrs Stone Store Brochure Kye Ranson from SmithRanson tells his story on using our stone for a feature wall. Feature wall It s a case of wow with the walls for a Newcastle home which was given a striking update in stone. What started out to be a bog standard 1930 s bungalow on the outskirts of Newcastle has become a tardis of a home for couple Tom and Jacky who live there with son Luke. > A decade or so ago I had the privilege of originally working on the modest bungalow on a leafy and lovely established lane. Bi-fold doors and a modern, open plan kitchen make it a perfect space for entertaining not least for my client s annual white hot party. My clients Tom and Jacky felt it was time to give their home something of a makeover and knowing them like I do I knew it would need to be something a little different. Tom seemed very keen to contract me and my design company Smith Ranson Interiors as we had previously worked together the first time around. The brief this time was to create a low and loungey living room a place Tom and Jacky could come home to after a busy day and just relax. Another important aspect of the design was it had to include something wow a feature piece to stand out and something your next door neighbour wouldn t have! We discussed a lot of ideas, designs and concepts until we agreed on an amazing design idea which was to cover the full staircase wall with a split face slate mosaic together with simple up/down lighting this was to be the amazing feature we wanted. Furniture, fabrics and other smaller features played a big part in the style and look of the space. As the living room was an open plan space which included the staircase everything had to blend and work together. The lovely Harlequin wallpaper which is very subtle but textured helped tie in the big open plan space. A stunning handmade l-shape sofa helped section apart the living room to the open plan staircase and hallway without dividing the space. For full project photos visit

9 15 Mrs Stone Store Brochure 2016 Honed Brazilian Slate Brushed Brazilian Antique Slate SLATE Honed slate has not only been calibrated on the underside of the tile to achieve an even 10mm thickness but the top of the tile has also been machined to provide a completely flat surface. The machining process removes the riven texture and leaves the equivalent natural shift but displayed by way of colour variance. This variance can take on many forms as is indicative of natural stone i.e. some tiles can be evenly coloured whilst others can appeared cloud like in appearance. Recommended for low traffic areas such as bathrooms, shower rooms etc. Brazilian Brushed slate tiles have a unique natural riven surface achieved by a gentle machining process over the top of the tile which softens the riven texture thus simulating wear. This range has calibrated backs and square cut edges to aid installation and grouting. The Brazilian brushed slate range offers an aged look that will sit well in ultra modern developments or more traditional projects alike. This is one of the hardest limestones in the world and is extremely hardwearing.
