2 I. COURSE DESCRIPTION Landscape Design/Horticulture III is a one-year course, which builds on the basic skills and knowledge gained in Landscape Design/Horticulture I and II. This will be accomplished through review along with classroom and greenhouse activities. Units of study will include but not be limited to: Landscape Design, Using Plants in the Landscape, Interior Plantscape, Lawn equipment and maintenance. Students will also study Integrated Pest Management, Plant propagation, warm and cool season grasses and various types of Irrigation systems. Students in Landscape III will be expected to do basic mathematics; read and interpret garden catalogs; research, analyze and organize information by requiring the use of word processing, power point and the internet to complete assignments. The entrepreneurial skills and business interest of the students will be developed through group and individual activities including class presentations and simulated landscape situations. FFA activities will support classroom material. Time Frame : 1 year Suggested Grade Level : Grade 11 Prerequisite: Successful completion of Landscape Design/Horticulture II II. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of Landscape Design/Horticulture II, the student will be able to: A. Demonstrate plant propagation by budding, layering and bulbs B. Explain cultural requirements, planning techniques, care and use of evergreens C. Describe proper use of deciduous trees and shrubs D. Discuss the difference between selective and nonselective herbicides E. List three types of turf grass and distinguish between warm and cool season grass F. Explain principles and maintenance practices necessary to maintain the landscape G. Describe various types of Irrigation systems H. Explain the importance of labeling, displaying and advertising greenhouse grown plants I. Explain Outdoor Room concept enclosure and surface material J Grow and maintain greenhouse plants for re-sale COURSE OUTLINE Plant Propagation A. Evaluation : Students to be evaluated using the following grading system: Tests 40% Quizzes 20% Projects 20% Notebooks/Homework 10% Class Participation 10% TOTAL 100%

NJCCS The following CCS will be used throughout the course : Standard st-Century Life and Career Skills: All students will demonstrate the creative, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills needed to function successfully as both global citizens and workers in diverse ethnic and organizational cultures. Standard 9.2 Personal Financial Literacy: All students will develop skills and strategies that promote personal and financial responsibility related to financial planning, savings, investment, and charitable giving in the global economy. Standard 9.3 Career Awareness, Exploration, and Preparation: All students will apply knowledge about and engage in the process of career awareness, exploration, and preparation in order to navigate the globally competitive work environment of the information age. Standard 9.4 Career and Technical Education: All students who complete a career and technical education program will acquire academic and technical skills for careers in emerging and established professions that lead to technical skill proficiency, credentials, certificates, licenses, and/or degrees.

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES Various teaching methods are utilized in this course. In order to meet the individual needs of our students, differentiated instruction is utilized in every class. Meaningful instruction will use a variety of strategies, including but not limited to: readings and exercises from approved text(s) and related supplemental materials, hands-on practical projects, shop demonstrations by the teacher and students, cooperative group activities, teacher generated worksheets and exercises, field trips to flower shows, botanical gardens, and selected secondary schools will support classroom content. Teacher modeling of landscape situations will also be implemented. The use of specific audio-visual materials will be utilized in classroom instruction. Computer use will consist of research and project reports.
