3 110 Sustainable Driveway Solutions Everyday decisions such as creating vehicle parking areas on our properties can have environmental consequences In times of heavy or sustained rainfall the drainage system can become overloaded and cause catastrophic flooding. This has resulted in changes to Government legislation and it is becoming increasingly important to follow the guidelines of the legislation for sustainable driveway design. It need not be complicated. You simply need to decide how you would like to manage the rainwater that lands on your driveway. Your Marshalls Register Installer will advise you on the best driveway solution. Here are three options you might choose to manage the rainwater that lands on your driveway, along with some product ideas for each option. OPTION 1 Use permeable paving which allows rainwater to drain through your driveway into the ground below. NO PLANNING PERMISSION REQUIRED Your installer will prepare a suitable*, permeable driveway sub-base, which allows water to travel between the blocks into the ground. To find an installer who has been trained to install Marshalls permeable driveways visit the Find an Installer section of the Marshalls. Simply search for Marshalls Register Installers in your postcode area. 4 111 DRIVEWAYS The straightforward guide to driveway design within the guidelines of legislation OPTION 2 Drivesett Tegula Original with Linear Drainage Driveway product suggestions Direct rainwater from the driveway to a flower bed or another area of the garden which has been designed to allow water to drain away NO PLANNING PERMISSION REQUIRED This option may involve using linear drainage or a driveway channel. It may also involve your installer putting a soakaway underneath part of your lawn. The size of soakaway required will vary depending on a number of factors.
